It's not random. The helicopter spawns the farthest from the survivors to make more tension.

@jeeg08 no its random because i was killing a tank next to the semi (teammates were there too) and the chopper appeared right above me. Did it all on single player :) check out my video

how did you get like no hordes and barely any special infected on expert? when i do it on expert i get like 10x more zombies than you did

Yep. This is in expert 00:52 - 00:54 that only attack did 10 damage.
