Iron Chef America definitely has master chefs but there aren't any bad ass rivalries and showdowns like Kitchen Stadium's Morimoto vs. Ohta's Faction. That's what I enjoyed so much about Iron Chef Japan, the stories behind the battles.
Damn *COD ROE* is delicious , I had those cod roe soup before in a spring tryukan and all I can say is I can't forget how fresh n delicious they were.
The Japanese are very traditional people and i think it's fine to be proud of your tradition and want to safeguard it. But there's not point shoving original Japanese food down people's throats. Different parts of the world have different tastes and there's no harm adapting Japanese food to suit their tastes. Like my country has sushi with sweet corn and crabstick and almost everyone likes it.
@SolariaAngeli It's very true and I agree with you on your point but I would also like to argue that even Japanese culture itself shares similarities with other nations, not just in traditional cuisines but also in things like styles of clothing(the Kimono, believe it or not, was originated in China, mainly during the Tang Dynasty, 618-907AD) and in Japan's case, Tokyo(which is translated as "Eastern Capital" in Chinese because there is no Eastern Capital in China).
Just one of the many things that ICA can improve upon is the secret ingredients they have. ICA needs to put in more exotic and expensive ingredients. If you compare ICA and ICJ budget, ICJ spends way more than ICA.
Another is the "styles" (French, Italian, etc.). For the most part, there's no real distinction. Their "style" should always take precedence, THEN add an American twist to it, like how they do it in ICJ (French with a Japanese touch, etc.).
@RPenta Actually Morimoto still wears his original outfit From Iron Chef Japan, because he felt that it was disrespectul to the true pagentry of the show to make could chefs so bland... I really think American Iron Chef watchers would shit if Kandagawa's hitmen showed up... And plus I cannot stand Alton Brown as the host...
At least it will put Flay in their place when the Ohta chef shows them what does traditionalist flavours taste like. Not the fusion cuisine chefs do, especially with Flay and his perchant for spices.
I think Ohta is blind to see that Morimoto is not trying to kill Japanese cuisine, he has just taken it and evolved it into something new even better...
lol Ohta and Kandagawa are the "bad guys" it was funny when he said "winning one is not our goal, we're going for a winning record" lol that sounded hillarious

There was more than one anglerfish battle? I recall seeing one in the Rosusaburo era, but I had no idea Morimoto had tackled it too...and lost.

Iron Chef America, even their gear sucks and is boring--no sense of style or pagentry.
Personality? What personality does Bobby Flay have except that of an asshole.

Do their headbands give their rank or just say something like proud to be an ohta?
majanis607 3 years ago
The headbands (hachimaki) are a traditional thing, wearing one signifies determination.
tunaman100 3 years ago
The headbands supposedly say "True Flavor."
