I hate to sound like a troll but here is the answer to both of your questions Noah. Deling hired Edea because of her skill in sorcery, and the anti-magic field doesn't protect against sorcery, only basic magic that the playable characters use.

And I've never seen the sorceress using a magic spell that wasn't avaible to the party, in fact she doesnt have several game-breakers spell like Aura.
