Oh i see, that explains it lol... And I pretty much am a college football, basketball and baseball nut lol and will watch softball when its on, and I also try to follow other Texas sports like volleyball, golf, tennis etc. just to see how they're doing. HEY you actually said "UT", lol good job... thumbs up hahahahaha
The last time I saw info on it, Texas had about 4,000 more students. And tamu isn't known as a party school as well?? And Texas has a larger, and more successful athletic program as a whole. And no I do not attend UT because I am playing baseball at a DIII University, but have been a diehard fan since I was a little kid and would have gone there if I didn't play college ball.
@mrtx09 You got old data man. A&M can party, but it's not KNOWN as a party school. UT is. All you got is Football. I'll give you that one. But if you're measuring an educational institution's value, you base it on education. And in that dept. A&M is MILES beyond t.u. Congrats on your Baseball. You guys should get paid. :P I've been an Aggie since the day I was born. The 1st picture of me in existence is me in an A&M one-sie. That was the day I came home from being born. (Age 2-3 days)
@Loe307uh I found that UT has over 51,000 and tamu is over 50,000 so yea. All we have is football?? Haha riiiite, that is why we have 48 NCAA championships... all won by the football team! lol...And yall have how many?? I think 11, no wait its only 10 :(.
@mrtx09 Per UT enrollment data on the UT web site.... 40,XXX for Fall semester. Per A&M enrollment data on the A&M web site....41,XXX for Fall sememster.
UT isn't any more know for any OTHER sport than A&M. So again....all you have over ANY other school WAS football.
@Loe307uh I recently checked both school's website and those were the only numbers I could find. And on a National level Texas is more recognized than tamu for sure in football and baseball.
@Loe307uh I just dont get having a dog as your mascot when it has nothing to do with the team name. And another thing, why do yall try to act like yall are in the military?? Yall are not a military academy, so why try to be like one? Just comes off as a bunch of wanna-be's. Just hating or anything, just wondering.
@mrtx09 A&M WAS a military school all the way until the 1960s. That tradition is still very much alive today. Many student in the Corp of Cadets (a division of ROTC) go on to serve. I'm not 100% if it is still mandatory for the Corps. The school's military credentials are certainly there. Search wiki for James Earl Rudder.
As far as a dog, there's no real easy way to represent an "Aggie" in mascot form. Instead we represent the traditions of our school and 1 such tradition is that of Reveille.
@mrtx09 Not all Aggies act like that either. Just like when I served in the Army and many of the guys I ran in to acted like they were special forces etc. You get them in every group. Sometimes people stand out. Aggies DO have a long standing reputation in the military community.
@mrtx09 Here's a good description of many of the traditions: wiki- Traditions_of_Texas_A%26M_University
A lot of it just has to be experienced to make sense lol. IDK where you're from, but if you ever get a chance to go to an Aggie home game I'd check it out. (Football)
@Loe307uh I was thinking about trying to go to the Thanksgiving Day game to watch UT beat that tail one more time :) lol, or maybe when they play LSU in the upcoming years. My cousin played volleyball at LSU so that side of the family is LSU. But yea it really is homefield advantage for yall guys playing there.
@mrtx09 This years t.u. game should be good. I have mild expectations for our 1st few years of SEC. We've got a lot of building to do to compete in that conference. I got a ticket to the t.u. game since it'll be the last one. Getting season tix next year. I figure as a Sr. I ought to go more.
@mrtx09 Because t.u. was created by the Union after the civil war as a direct slap to A&M for being a "southern" school. A&M was established first and used to be The A&M College of Texas so UT decided to go all caps and call itself THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS. The name itself is an insult to A&M so we call it t.u. to tease back. Ask your average student at either school and you won't find as many that know the Civil War history and that UT was a Yankee school established as punishment to Texas. :P
@Loe307uh Lol so much hatred because UT became a better and bigger school and prideful athletic program that is better than the Texas Faggies!! Just pure jealousy :P lol
@mrtx09 That's funny, A&M has nearly 1000 more students enrolled than t.u. I think the campus is physically larger as well. True your school (do you even go there?) has a larger and more well know football program but as an educational institution t.u. is known to be somewhat of a party school and is not taken seriously for education. Excluding the Architecture and Medical programs. A&M is internationally renowned for it's research and education. It appears Aggies are more respectful as well.
@mrtx09 Calling UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS "texas. university." isn't the same as calling us "faggies." And it's technically Tea-sips. Another little known fact. Tea as in "Boston tea-party" at a time after rebellion from Britain was still popular and AMERICANS were moving to coffee from tea.
If you want to jab at A&M instead of blatant a-hole remarks, there are TONS of Aggie jokes. (What do you call a stick with a match at the end of it......Aggie flashlight)
@Loe307uh But I'll apologize. I really should not have said that and I'm sorry. I let my emotions get the best of me there and I got caught up in the moment.
@Loe307uh Don't take offense to this (and I could be wrong), and I'm not trying to judge you, but it just seems like sports wise you are as big a sports nut like I am, but you seem like a good guy man.
Also, I had an Aggie graduate as one of my History profs. He also teaches Texas History. He liked to give us a lot of little tid-bits when we came to certain parts of the class. He talked about how the 2 schools were part of Texas Land Grant programs and shared funds. Lots of stuff. Cool info. All of it was A&M related though so I don't know much about the history of UT.
Oooo she is so cute!!!!!! My fav mascot!!!!! One of my fav parts bout a&m! I hav a reveille pillow pet!!!! I share this account with my friend and she likes ut & luv ya but go Texas a&m!!!!!!!!!!
@onikuno "Eight years after the death of the first Reveille, a graduate of the university donated a Shetland Sheepdog to be the second official Aggie mascot, Reveille II. The third Reveille was the first to be a purebred American Collie; all subsequent mascots have belonged to this breed." - Wikipedia
you call this a tradition?
