  • Good version, tho I prefer Daniel Lanois with full band and pulsating bass. . .but that's just me. . .

  • @Oglaigh66 And by the way: It was written at Lanois house in New Orleans...And i'm sorry to say but you do not get the meaning of this song; It's about a sinner that has not lived an exemplary life"I've run a twisted mile I'm a stranger In the eyes of the maker"!.Abraham refers to ...like Father Abraham: the father of all 3 major religions!! And i don't follow religion...you need to get some references before writing something;Question of credibility!

  • @Oglaigh66 Oppression of the English ?? Have you ever heard of history...You surely mean the oppression of everything not WASP by the English !!

  • @Oglaigh66 lol!!! Are you the same racist Oglaigh66 who spit on Québec and make threat of violence against separatist group? You are pathetic, you are not French, you are not Quebecer, you will never be, get the fuck out of my country racist scum! You deserve no respect! You speak about English oppression but you support English oppression in Québec and Acadia, you support Canada and the British monarchy. I spit on you traitors! Fake-Irish, you are just a child who know nothing about politic!

  • pure raw talent!!!!!

  • You talk to her we translate mworld5.info

  • Great version of an incredible Daniel Lanios song !

  • You can convert this to an mp3 at instantmp3s..com

  • not bad.. pretty casual.. Willie and Daniel really spank it though..

  • this is a folk song redone by dave, but i think it originally had christian values, but modern secular people could interpret this as just knowing and believing that there is something greater than us and life, and though as magnificent as we are as humans, there is a greater good working in harmony with life. It is a beautiful song regardless of how you interpret it. I'm sure Dave would want his listeners to interpret this for themselves to benefit their lives and the lives of others.

  • @chrisysmith51 This is not a folk song. It was written by Daniel Lanois while working in Dubin, Ireland. It was inspired by the Liffey River in Dublin which rises with the incoming tide. The water is black like a mirror. He wrote the lyrics in Dubin and the music in Orleans.

    peace

  • @chrisysmith51 sounds good, but dave didn't write it! daniel lanois did. beautiful song, though.

  • i feel that it is about a man feeling disconnected with his creator and watching nature finds himself being reconnected.

  • daniel lanois

  • so pretty much its about believe in what you want?

  • discovering and accepting a higher power in your life.

  • does anyone know what this song is really about. to me its like theres a feeling inside of u and its trying to get out . and when it talks about the river rising its talking about that feeling rising up inside of u. that feeling to me would be god. but what do u guys think?

  • it's about "insert you god's name here"... just like lots of songs out there.

  • @imisssoundgarden your dad, your mom, the cosmic oven

  • the bible

  • GREAT cover but I still say JERRY DID IT BEST!!! :-)

  • No.

  • agreed, Garcia did it best. Listen to the words, meaning is clear. Song begins as a stranger in the eyes of the maker....ends as something much different...faith vs fear

  • This is a great combination of song, players and vocals, for me at least, I feel this!

  • 75tm400 go watch something else if you cant appreciate amazing music and amazing artists.

  • He stays pretty true to the original, by Daniel Lanois. Nice and restrained.

  • f'in awesome

  • beautiful! its amazing how dave and tim can make literally everything sound amazing love the maker and yes all of radio city was beyond amazing the #41 and two step at the end was unreal

  • Their misic make me feel relax like I am on a beach. So beautiful.

  • i love when these two play. i have live at radio city music hall on DVD

  • I can't get enough of these 2

  • brilliant

  • i love this song

  • Dave Matthews could sing the phone book and make it transcendental!

  • Damn they are so good , light up a joint and listen to dave and tim all day long!!!

my friends and me are covering them in denmark but not many ppl knows him or says any thing about them....

but i know deep inside them that they are happy about it..... :)

  • This song is so brilliant, it's impossible to mess it up.

This is yet another beautiful version of one of my favorite songs.

  • the radio city version of this is amazing

  • all of radio city is amazing

  • great song, thanks Dave:-)

  • You do know that this is a cover?

  • yes, i do know it´a cover (originally D.Lanois, Acadia, right?). i like the way DM sings it, that´s what i thanked him for, not for having written the song:-)

  • This is such a *beautiful* song by Dave and Tim. Still stands as my all-time favorite.

  • i was very pleasantly surprised by this. terrific rendition of an amazing song.

  • funny enough but Willie Nelson does a pretty good version of this song on his "Teatro" album.

  • does Emmylou participate on the album version as well? i was fully prepared to bad mouth the Dave M. version, but could not. this is really well done. beautiful.

  • she's on the album version but vocals are a little lower in the mix then the video. I'm not much of a Dave Matthews fan but he does a pretty good job in this clip.

  • Brother John, have you seen the homeless daughters

    Standing there with broken wings

I have seen the flaming sword

    There over east of Eden

Burning in the eyes of the Maker

Burning in the eyes of the Maker

Burning in the eyes of the Maker

  • its great but still missin the other boys

  • Cheers dave

  • Did Dave write this song?

  • No. His name is Daniel Lanois

  • this band is the best !!!!

  • this version is better than lanois's.....im sorry but i didnt know any better i would have thought this was the original and just blows lanois's version away....not to mention he doesnt have any extra instruments.

  • you should jump off a cliff

  • You got some issues. You sit there and spout off saying everything your boy DM is against...hate. Grow up.

  • Barrel of a Gun by Guster

  • good call

  • I love that song! i have been to many guster concerts and that was the first song of their i learned.

  • oh what a beautiful song I can't wait to see my grandfather when I see my maker too

  • love it

  • This sounds amazing.

  • Do not like this version :( guitars not the same, voices seem strained, 2 guitars annoying, sometimes the original just can't be touched. Some singers do better covers of songs, not this time.

  • Problem is the original guy doesn't have a very good voice.

    dave sounds much better

  • I second that, and will add that youre a retard too.

  • I agree with kcn. This isn't a bad version, it's just that Daniel Louise sounds better.

  • Whoops, I meant Daniel Lanois. :P

  • i have to agree. daniel lanois's version gives me chills... (hahaha were you thinking about jolie louise up there masshwh?) : )

  • i was there! one of my first d&t shows. i remember buying tickets for this show and getting SUPER lucky through ticketbastard online. hungover as hell that morning. almost slept through the on sale time. totally worth it.

  • Dave's covers are always really good.

  • who is daniel lanois?

  • Daniel Lanois (born September 19, 1951 in Hull, Quebec) is a Canadian record producer and singer-songwriter. He has released a number of albums of his own work and has produced albums for a wide variety of artists including Bob Dylan, The Parachute Club, U2, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Emmylou Harris, Robbie Robertson, the Neville Brothers, Chris Whitley, Ron Sexsmith and Nash the Slash.

I didn't know who the hell he was either.

  • Go Hull! H-Power!

  • Go Hull! H-Power!

  • I just recorded and covered this version about an hour ago on my myspace, i had no fucking tabs so it was really frustrating trying to get tims part but, eh, im no musician, check it out though if you'd like myspace(dot)com/itshunterpowell

  • Too bad they never made a dvd for Live @ luther college, its up there with my favorite albums.

  • Get the DVD of the Radio City show too. It's just as incredile as the CD, especially when you get actually see the music being made. Watching Tim Reynolds' fingers move so quickly across the strings blows me away.

  • youre right, radio city is the shit. That show just blows me away

  • These two guys were just born to play music together. To anyone who doesnèt yte have it, get DM and TR Live at Radio City...Freakin beautiful stuff

  • I loved it too!

  • Brilliant song brilliantly covered by Matthews. Period.

  • are u kiddin???? yes lanois version is great but how dare u say dave is a poser and im sure many agree with me that u have no taste in music

  • your name is i don't care. what do you care for his opinion of the song? and you both obviously have similar tastes in music liking lanois. put a little thought into your posts. not everyone likes dave matthews

  • Ya some fans are complete assholes. The ones that get drunk at concerys in the 10th to 1st row and yell load and make a scene. Just shut the fuck and listen to the music.

  • honestly man, i see your point about the music in general. i dont think that's daves fault though. it's the fans. there are always assholes at a dave show, cause they go to create a scene instead of letting the music create it. he really used to compose some excellent songs. i think he does a nice job of covering the maker. he still gives it that peacefulness that lanois gives the song.

  • The 'dope head' comment may have been a bit too much, true. Though those 'dave' followers love everything he does it seems without question. As far as my taste in music goes, that's my taste and it would be stupid to comment on. Still I think mr Matthews took this gem and clouded it with a very obvious interpretation.

  • Dear johaningridoscar, I think that you say Dave is a poser is possibly the most uncalled for thing I have heard. Dave Matthews is not dope head music. Lanois version is very good, but you can't compare it to a completely different version. That's like comparing Hendrix to Dylan for AATW.You therefore and an idiot for saying something that and if you don't like Dave Matthews and his voice/music that is one thing, but to say he is a poser is a joke.

  • i was at this show and have a full dvd of it...one of the best nights of my life

  • Wow!

  • Amazing! I pray they play this at Wembley!

  • is this them at UMASS?

  • Its 4 chords :) Dm, C, F, Bb

  • thanks for the chords. it's been a fun song to play

  • so peaceful and flowing, its amazing what u can do with 3 chords.

  • great post thanx

    made my day...well morning

    thanx

  • Lulls me into a trance every time.

  • i love this song. great vid osu!

  • is that a hobbit? and why isn't tim showing off his guns, in one of his "muscle shirts"?
