Just to let you all know....

Juice got her name from her little sister who use to yell "Hey Juice!" instead of Judy Sue (her real name).

This video was directed by Mike Nesmith (yes - of the Monkees)

Also she was one of the nicest performers to work with. Of course in those days it wasn't all divas and thugs like today.

I always get up when this song comes along. I also like Dave Edmunds' version (which he first wrote and sung a couple of years earlier than this one), but I've heard this song so many times that it actually makes Edmunds' version sound like a throwaway demo he gave to Juice Newton just to get the idea, because they sound almost identical. The excellent memories that this song brings back are almost unreal.

Summer 1981...I was doing a summer semester at UCLA...really, just a pretext to party on the coast with my best friend (who'd moved with his family during the Sunbelt Migration).

There were tons more country music in LA than my native NYC, at least in those days.

One English course...four days a week...just before lunch...LOL! Life was rrrreaaalll tough back then!

Don't know about y'all, but I miss the 80s especially the early years. Top 40 was so catchy and diverse back then. There was something for everyone. Now, its just hip hop crap and teenybopper nonsense. Poor kids today don't understand harmonies, playing w/real insturments (sorry Rockband doesn't count), or keeping things subtle and smut-free. I'm so happy to have grown up in the time that I did.
