That PC, it's technology wich is applying current technology to human needs. Listen to this soundtrack till the end - and then turn on Half Life soundtrack 17 (end credit) - it gives you the feeling of an eternal-living game series.

Beautiful song in and of itself.

Took me a little while to get into this, since it's such a diversion from the previous mood. As a stand-alone game, the original rock score works well. But given what we know now, and after some time to digest, this works much better thematically. Freeman was a pawn, instrumental in setting into action the neigh destruction of Earth, and forced into indentured service to a less the amiable supervisor.

Not a very happy story.

The credits theme from the original Half-Life reflected the excitement from seemingly ending the alien invasion and making it out alive. The credit theme to Black Mesa reflects the death and destruction caused by the event, and how even destroying the alien leader wasn't enough to end the invasion. It's quite a nice contrast.

It's good, it seriously is, but it doesn't fit Half-Life at all.

Mostly due to most of the string instruments which kinda detracts from the Science-Fiction aspect of Half-Life and makes it feel almost medieval.

I sorta felt that too, but when I walk around the hallways where you don't fight anything, I feel alittle lonely, like you're the only one left.

I don't know about the whole desperation thing, but I do feel alittle "depressed" (not exactly, but close enough).

Same with Half Life 2 in some parts, especailly the ending of Episode 2.

@4lligator You are right!!! unlike Half-Life, other action games tend to offer a typical gaming experience, in which the characters of the story are not surprised at all of the unusual situations that they have to confront. They are always "heroes", solving everything with a gun and a pathetic emotion of a warrior. On the other hand, Valve has managed to put our steps on the feet of a scientist whose reactions might be similar to what would have been to really be in a collapsing facility.
