Even though these guys are on hit wonders (with the exception of Ben Orr) they made tons of money b/c back in the 80s you just needed one hit for people to buy records. Now even the popular bands don't rely on CD sales since their music can be downloaded anywhere. They have to have tons of hits to hold a concert.
Interesting that you put Rush Hour as Jane Weidlen's only hit. In Chicagoland on WLS FM they used to play Blue Kiss way more than that song. Just saying. :-)
All I can say is thank goodness Jack Wagner and Patrick Swayze were better actors than rock stars. Although they both rocked...and Jack still rocks, RIP Patrick!

2010's track "Touch and Go" reached #1 on the US Billboard Jazz chart, becoming his tenth number one on the Smooth Jazz chart.
Yep hes a real one hit wonder tell that to the record company
I think the biggest issue with this video is most American's think the world ends when you hit the ocean on their coastline. It's like baseball......YEYHAHHHH !!! we won the world series again !!!...shame no other country plays in the league. Im not anti American, but more than half of these " one hit wonders " had careers outside the US borders....one in particular, i went to a Models gig 2 weeks ago, and the Melbourne boys still rock hard.
Nice collection of videos. Tough call on the "One Hit Wonders" part, because many of these artists were part of really popular groups. The Firm was part of the power line up from Led Zeppelin, Jane Weidlin was part of the Go-Gos etc.
The Firm had another #1 song in the States called "All the kings horses". Carlene Carter has a list of hits as long as your arm. Midnight Star isnt a one hit wonder. Jane Wiedlin also had "blue kiss" not to mention numerous hits as a member of the go gos.. this list sucks.

Dude, not to be difficult, but you can't put Saga int his category whatsoever!. "Wind Him Up", "On The Loose", "Don't Be Late" etc. etc. This was a great band!
The only one I disagree with is Utopia. I know you are talking about the 80's, but the group had a lot of success in the 70's. And you could have at least used video for Feet Don't Fail Me Now... :)
Strange but the only one i actually remember played on the radio and was a pretty good song back then was Jack Wagner, All I Need...is a little more time.
Nice collection, but I would have to say that The Blow Monkeys (Out with Her, It Doesn't Have to Be this Way...) and Midnight Star (Body Snatchers, Freak-a-Zoid, No Parking on the Dancefloor...) are not one-hit wonders. :/
I'd forgotten about "Whirly Girl" by OXO. Nice to see that clip, and I'll look for the entire video.

I really wouldn't consider The Firm a one hit wonder. They only released like 2 albums and most of their stuff was off of Paul Rodgers and Jimmy Page's solo albums. They were all successful musicians that got together to jam for a year.

@Navy6438 the song was heard in Tristar's 1989 romantic comedy starring Patrick Dempsey (Enchanted), Kirstie Alley (It Takes Two) and Carrie Fisher (Star Wars) and was directed by Joan Micklin Silver (Big Girls Don't Cry...They Get Even) as the title theme.
I only know Tarzanboy, Frank Stallone Paul Hardcastle's 19 and Double (Captain of the Heart) and I guess they were the only ones hugely popular in Europe. Technically, Midnight Star is a "number" one hit wonder, but they have quite a few songs in the top ten such as "No Parking (On the Dance Floor)", "Freak-A-Zoid", "Wet My Whistle" and others. I wouldn't have included them on this list for those reasons.(imho)
Correct me if I'm wrong but from 1980 to like 1987 there was nothing but one hit wonder's on the radio thing is thou I was also a kid back then and really enjoyed growing up in the era

Why can't the ones of you who feel the need to leave negative comments just leave the page instead...? I mean really. If you don't like the video/songs DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! It's that simple. And before you leave me a negative comment, here's the reply you'll get...."bite me." So don't waste your time. => BTW, Great video! =)
@TikiShootah nah that ain't true, latin america including mexico know of these from the time the music released, japan was pretty informed of the music, my parents reguardless of not being white had BOXES of old 80's hits like these. when you say everyone else, its more likely meaning the future generations after the 80's.
Ahhh...brings back memories on why I got into metal in the first place...lol. The 80's was bad enough the first time around. It's just embarrassing watching the re-runs.
Half that crap nobody has ever even heard of. And the Firm had more than one hit. A VERY popular cover of You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling. Not to mention Closer, and Satisfaction Guaranteed, which was arguably a bigger hit and better song than Radioactive. This video = worthless.
@chazalpha96 Thank you! Yeah, they were NOT one hit wonders! There was also "Wet My Whistle", "Night Rider", "Curious", "Don't Rock the Boat", "I've Been Watchin' You" and several other songs. Still rockin' Midnight Star's songs to this day!
I'd forgotten about some of these -- i.e. Whirly Girl -- but I don'tremember others as ever being hits in the US at all. Watching a Rocky movie awhile back I was reminded what a good song "No Easy Way Out" was though. Great times in the 80s. I was a college freshman when Jack Wagners "All I Need" came out. Song got me laid a couple times. Thanks Jack!
Uh... Midnite Starr (AKA "Midnight Star") was not a "one-hit wonder" band. From the beginning of the 80's, Midnite Starr was on the R&B charts and had hits all throughout the 80's, finally fading out after the split in 1988. "Headlines" (1986) was their third gold album. You can find some of their videos here on YouTube, so I dunno why you figured them as a one-hit wonder.
@younghoss All The Kings Horses, Satisfaction Guaranteed, Radioactive, Live In Peace...those were their most well known. I also like Money Can't Buy from their first album.
Here again, let's don't confuse what many might call "good songs" or even "great songs" with what most defined as "hits" back then. I Use U.S. billboard hot 100 to determine mainstream hits back then. I suspect the Original poster of these uses a similar guideline. I do see though, that "Satisfaction made #73 on Billboard hot 100, your other examples did not. Radioactive hit #28. I don't think of reaching #73 as a "hit" but let me add, I like that song a lot too!
@younghoss You seem to be the only confused one. I NEVER used the words great or good. I said most well known. You can use Billboard whatever. I know where I grew up they were on the radio alot, and were very popular. To say that they were a one hit wonder is BS. That was my point.
Are they HIGH? Paul AHardcastle? Saga? The FIRM? Jane Wiedlin? Calling The Firm a 1-hit-wonder is to make an obstuse mockery of rock history. Jane Wiedlin was in the Go-Gos! Saga was HUGE in the 80s! And Paul Hardcastle? Read this from wikipedia:
..He won the Billboard Smooth Jazz Artist Of The Year award in 2008.
Jazzmasters VI track "Touch and Go"... reached #1 on the US Billboard Jazz songs chart, becoming his tenth number one on the Smooth Jazz chart..
Amazing how you can hear a song you've never heard, but you know exactly what decade it was in by its "sound". Anyway, how about "Puttin' On the Ritz" by Taco Okerse? Play that while I'm training my horses. Makes their mistakes seem a lot more funny than frustrating ;-)
Midnight Starr?? They have dozens of hits! Operator, the song in this video wasn't even their biggest hit. Slow Jam is a legendary R & B ballad that is always in the conversation about greatest R & B ballads.
This vid was a total bust. A Lot of mistakes. Midnight star? One hit wonder? They had several hits.Patrick Swayze? Sure in music but I believe one hit wonders are artist who make one hit and disappear.
ya plus you got jane weidlin (the go go's) and benjamin orr (the cars) solo stuff as one hit wonders ya those bands were kinda big in the 80's last time i checked
Last time I checked, the Go-gos had plenty of hits. Very successful band! But Jane Wiedlin had only one hit while billed as a solo, that was "Rush Hour". See the difference?
saga is a one hit wonder? tff ,obviously, you have not heard much of their material. You do know that saga used to open for a band called Rush ? Saga had to leave Canada to make it big , they eventually found a home in europe. I happen to have 4 of their albums. They certainly had better songs than a band like boston ever had .
Wow! many flashbacks here...especially that Jane Wiedlin....wow probably havent seen that since I was 10 years old or something. Gonna search for the full vid.
How about the other actors besides Swayze and Jack? Don Johnson's "Heartbeat", Eddie Murphy's "Party All the Time", Bruce Willis's "Respect Yourself", John Schneider's "It's Now Or Never", Gloria Loring and Carl Anderson's "Friends And Lovers".
Great set, but Utopia doesn't fall under the "one hit wonder" category. "Feet Don't Fail" me now was likely their only song that got any real airplay, but they had a rabid cult following.
One Hit Wonders, by definition, fade completely away after that one song. Rundgren's Utopia did not fade away that quickly.
Was that Lou Diamond Phillips at 1:45? Patrick Swayzee.. how sad. Some are from other bands like The Cars, Bad Company & The Gogos trying to make it on their own.
Funny how there are so many "one-hit-wonders" in the 80's, when they usually have MANY great songs under their belt...I guess because back in the 80's people were more critical, and there was a lot of competition...plus it was the Madonna and Michael Jackson era.
Now look at today's singers who are topping the iTunes charts for the 2nd or 3rd time already...seriously, do they REALLY deserve to be up there again?
Parents need to stop giving their children iTunes giftcards.

Midnight Star wasn't a one hit wonder - they had several hits. No Parking On the Dance Floor and Freakazoid stand out.
chazalpha96 1 month ago 5
@chazalpha96 Thank you! Yeah, they were NOT one hit wonders! There was also "Wet My Whistle", "Night Rider", "Curious", "Don't Rock the Boat", "I've Been Watchin' You" and several other songs. Still rockin' Midnight Star's songs to this day!

Robert Tepper's "No Easy Way Out" is still a phenomenal song!
1028dtay 1 month ago

The Firm...one hit wonders? What planet did you drop in from YESTERDAY?
sithjedi71 1 month ago
@sithjedi71
How many hits did The Firm have? Not the individuals that made up The Firm, but the group of them billed as The Firm?
younghoss 1 month ago
@younghoss All The Kings Horses, Satisfaction Guaranteed, Radioactive, Live In Peace...those were their most well known. I also like Money Can't Buy from their first album.
sithjedi71 1 month ago
@sithjedi71
I don't think of reaching #73 as a "hit" but let me add, I like that song a lot too!
younghoss 1 month ago
@younghoss You seem to be the only confused one. I NEVER used the words great or good. I said most well known. You can use Billboard whatever. I know where I grew up they were on the radio alot, and were very popular. To say that they were a one hit wonder is BS. That was my point.
sithjedi71 1 month ago
I'm no Jazz fan but..
sonofthe80s 1 month ago
@sonofthe80s
I think by "one-hit wonders" they mean just as billed. Sure Wiedlin has a bunch of hits with Go-Gos, but only Rush Hour by herself.
Saga had one huge mainstream hit, "On the Loose". The follow-up "Wind him up" was a great song imo, but it wasn't as big a hit song.
younghoss 1 month ago
I feel like a douche for saying this but I had no idea 'everybody's gotta learn sometime' was a cover. I thought it was Beck's :O
loljustice31 1 month ago
Actually MANY of these songs were never hits at all. Others were more than one hit wonders.
Beefboy616 1 month ago
Amazing how you can hear a song you've never heard, but you know exactly what decade it was in by its "sound". Anyway, how about "Puttin' On the Ritz" by Taco Okerse? Play that while I'm training my horses. Makes their mistakes seem a lot more funny than frustrating ;-)
mundymanor 1 month ago
Midnight Starr?? They have dozens of hits! Operator, the song in this video wasn't even their biggest hit. Slow Jam is a legendary R & B ballad that is always in the conversation about greatest R & B ballads.

This vid was a total bust. A Lot of mistakes. Midnight star? One hit wonder? They had several hits.Patrick Swayze? Sure in music but I believe one hit wonders are artist who make one hit and disappear.

ya plus you got jane weidlin (the go go's) and benjamin orr (the cars) solo stuff as one hit wonders ya those bands were kinda big in the 80's last time i checked
kowoh 1 month ago
@kowoh
Last time I checked, the Go-gos had plenty of hits. Very successful band! But Jane Wiedlin had only one hit while billed as a solo, that was "Rush Hour". See the difference?

sorry but i disqualify the firm because when one of your members was in led zepplin i think he qualifies as already famous

saga is a one hit wonder? tff ,obviously, you have not heard much of their material. You do know that saga used to open for a band called Rush ? Saga had to leave Canada to make it big , they eventually found a home in europe. I happen to have 4 of their albums. They certainly had better songs than a band like boston ever had .

WTF? The Firm was not a "one-hit wonder." The Firm was a "two-hit wonder." I take it you've never heard the song "Satisfaction Guaranteed."

Midnight Star might have been a 1 Hit Wonder on the pop charts, but they kicked ass on the R&B charts.
darkchococide 2 months ago
Funny how there are so many "one-hit-wonders" in the 80's, when they usually have MANY great songs under their belt...I guess because back in the 80's people were more critical, and there was a lot of competition...plus it was the Madonna and Michael Jackson era.
Now look at today's singers who are topping the iTunes charts for the 2nd or 3rd time already...seriously, do they REALLY deserve to be up there again?
Parents need to stop giving their children iTunes giftcards.
