I've just had a really scary thought: what if the Data Integration Thought Entity felt sorry for Ryoko, and let her live once again, in another form, and that form was Emiri Kimidori? It would be nice but creepy and scary. I do like Ryoko though, best character who tries to become a murderer ever, as well as being awesome in general. But she could've lived a bit longer.
@DarkAdonisVyers You don't understand what I mean, it was just like me thinking of that. I often have random thoughts and I thought "What if Ryoko was Emiri?" I know they're different entities though.
Excuse me for saying this, because I am a spelling freak, a walking dictionary, but you spelt Haruhi wrong. You've spelt it Haurhi. Anyway, this song really has some depth to it, glad I finally know the translation. Thanks for posting it!
Oh my goodness, thank you very much! After all these years I never noticed. I always get excited when I'm close to posting a new video so I just type it all out as quick as I can. ^_^;
@ryvrdrgn15 Your joking, no one has ever noticed? Anyway, no problem, I often chew out my friends if they have a spelling error, so I spot them quite easily now. Oh, and this is my favorite TMOHS song, so again, thank you for uploading it!
@12lobi I thought to myself, even though I do not think she is evil, I'm going to take up that dare. So I opened up a random picture of Ryoko (I have loads) and looked at her eye. First I went "Ry-Ry-Ry..." and then said at 1000mph "Ryoko is evil." And looked away quickly, feeling bad for myself, remembering her eyes. It is damn hard.
Yes, a lot would say it's a character image song of how she appeared to the normal students (when not in Kyon-stabbity-stab mode). She was a model student in school and people probably looked up to her, though most of us only remember the Kyon-stabbity-stab side of her. ^_^;
@ryvrdrgn15 Makes sense, but I have this kind of creepy feeling about her singing it, you know? So Yandere... There is even the question of who is singing to. Mikuru's is clearly direct at Kyon imo.
But anyway, nice subs.^^ I
Is there the possibility of doing the rest of the chara albums?
Regarding who it is directed to, the lyics would hint at a female (since she's talking about girl stuff like going shopping). Perhaps it's directed towards the other girls in class she hangs out with or with Haruhi (?) because she's also singing about dreams and such (we all know that Kyon has none) >_>;
I'm already checking out some second season songs to see if there is anything I can work on (probably weave those in with the MacrossF songs).
There are many ways to see it I guess, but, I feel like posing my own theory, notice that Yuki, too, snapped and went crazy when she started showing human emotion, perhaps it's just because the emotions humans find natural, simply are not compatible with the programming of these entities, one might consider emotion a virus for them, that eats away at their data until finally the code is broken enough they malfunction in some way
Ryouko did indeed have free will, if only towards the supposed end of her life. After all, she broke from her programming of being back up for Nagato, to attempt to do what she believed was the correct choice.
@TheXMJohnson If she didn't have a secret murderous side, I would love to have her as a friend. I also like to have Yuki, Haruhi, and Itsuki as friends. Although I don't think it fits on this video, I <3 Yuki!!
for people saying both she's not evil and the ones saying she is, since she only follows progamming and is denied completely of free will, things like good or evil can't be applied to her, altough in her death scene she seems to show some will, wich may or may not be her true self, if it was then she's just neutral, anyways, it is impossible to know her true self yet, if she reappears (after TDoHS) maybe we'll discover if she's evil, good or simply normal.
well shes one fickle computer first asking kyon to have haruhi open up and then kill him the next *i think her orders were to gather information and she just got tired of waiting so thats why she tried to kill him it wasn't personal besides even if she did haruhi would bring him back the day after tommorow*
@lolmanlolmanlolman I'd have to watch the scene again, but I'm pretty sure her reason for attacking Kyon wasn't that those were her orders. It was that she wanted Haruhi to react.
And I may have made an assumption for this bit, but I was sure Ryoko and Yuki had the same boss. This is because they swapped roles. Ryoko was originally supposed to interact with Haruhi and Yuki observe from a distance, hence their personalities (I'm refering to Ryoko's façade here).
She still has some degree of free will though cause she was capable of disobeying Yuki's command. The laws of the computer can be overrided or manipulated with knowledge, Ryoko and Yuki knew that by intuition. As computers life forms, they can only understand logic and can't feel any emotions. Ryoko follows the logic that nothing will improve if there is no change. Kyon agreed with her so she thought it was the right thing to do to kill him.
@lolmanlolmanlolman Our perception of 'good' and 'evil' come from our moral views, which are created through our upbringing. Seeing as Ryoko had no 'upbringing' to speak of, she probably copied the same morals as the D.I.E (I forgot its name, her boss thing) and seeing as it sees everything as data (an interpretation based on Yuki's technological explanations), it may have little in the way of morals.
As for her free will, Ryoko has it, otherwise she would never have attacked "Kyon"
@Parsonator64 As I was saying: Ryoko does have free will. Essentially, her reason for breaking orders and trying to kill Kyon, was that she was bored/impatient.
And I really should read all the comments, before repeating what others have said.
excuse me after 1 year ... I can honestly say no she's not watched the movie yet the final scene in the movie ryoko looks so evil but it's only to protect nagato and nagato's world.
@lolmanlolmanlolman I've not really watched much of the series, but I would say she's not evil, anymore than we are evil for killing a rodent inside our house. She is not human, she is like a Humanoid Abomination, i.e. akin to a Cthulhu type being who probably sees us humans as livestock or roaches.
@lolmanlolmanlolman But she disobeyed orders (thereby violating her "programming" by taking direct action) to try to kill kyon, so she must have SOME free will. However, whether or not "good" and "evil" can be applied is still up for debate, since she doesn't understand the consequences of her actions. Paraphrased: "You don't want me to kill you? I'm sorry, but I don't understand the concept of death for organic lifeforms."
SHE IS VICIOUS!!!!! but i love her..... she is one of my fav characters :D i think.. she is the best :) but then i still say she is vicous.. i loved the music sang by the actor tho :D cool edition FTW! and this one is not as good but it's nice for her to
Actually, this song is about the mask that she wears. Just about everyone in tMoHS wears a mask, Ryoko is no different. It's just that there isn't much of a face under the mask...
Ryoko suffered no glitch, but was in fact acting under orders from a radical group within the IDE.
There was never a drop of good inside her. Just listen to COOL Edition.
actually this is good in her, but she acted according to what she saw was the the best course of action, but here, she thought the best course of action was doing something radicle, like killing kyon.
she was supposed to be nagato's backup unit, so if something happend to nagato, she'd take up her place, but she thought that forcing change rather then waiting for something to happen was better, thus her attempt of killing kyon
@SgtHydra you say that ryoko is acting on orders from a radical group within the Data Integration Sentient Entity (DISE)?? i must assume you have read the 10th novel, because 2 others refer to this...if true, this completely alters my view of the DISE..i always thought DISE acted as a singular entity, not made up of groups that oppose each other! wow....
besides you never know... if she was designed to be jolly and such then why did she try to kill kyon?it may have been for data but she wasnt designed to do radical stuff like that... so you never know :p
I think the song is meant to be sung to Haruhi since it was Ryoko's objective to get to know haruhi better, so she intended the song to persuade haruhi and her to be friends. but that is just my theory about the song. ^.^;
She is not evil, not even bad, she is just doesnt acknowledge the meaning of death to organic beings.
you can see her real side, when she vanishes and tells kyon to be carefull. She just wanted to see some progress, instead of waiting like monk like nagato
No, its a good one, she made her decision, must kill kyon to watch more data flow, wich was her objetive, she didnt acount the REPERCUSSION of her actions, nor did she understood it,like she admits to not knowing the concept of death for living organisms.
its like a child stealing say a sweet from somone, she wants the sweet, she takes, she doesnt realize its bad thing to do, untill either repreended or taught to.
While i respect your opinon i choose to voice my own.
Erherm Haruhi has a pretty good dub none of the voices are all too annoying and they left most of the really perverted stuff in so i don't see the problem everyone has with it
She certainly is a strange character but in a good way. I would like to see more of her. I know that she will make an appearance again but correct me if I'm wrong but it was just in 1 volume and
*spoiler*
only in the world created by Yuki. I don't think she exists in the real world after everything was resolved.
Um if you're referring to The Dissappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya then that's what I was talking about when I said the world created by Yuki. However, It was a pretty long time since I had read any of the novels so I might have missed or forgotten something. I might reread it.
Ryoko isn't bad she even asked Kyon what he thinks about changes, the the idea of changing by what she sees because she doesn't want everythink to be the same thing every day. She want to see happen just like Haruhi and get the chance of huge amount of data. So she isn't bad shes my 2nd favorite character after Itsuki Koizumi. ALSO Is Emiri Kimadori Yuki Nagato's Superior or master?
I think that Ryoko wasn't really good or bad because she was living to a whole different standard. To people, murder is really bad, but killing people probably looks different to the beings of the data world from whence she came. So maybe this is her and what she wants after all, but she still wants Kyon to die.
I agree with ryvrdrgn15 that this might be some good buried very deep inside her. (Like a black hole), not to be mean. However I wonder could her character come back. Remember Kyon told Haruhi he wanted to see her along with the others in the "old world". Then again the Data Integration Thought Entity could bring her back as well. Hey! Surprise heart attack to Kyon, all the way from Canada. :)
Personally I don't think she's really evil... She's basically been program to mess with her surroundings, do stuff and see their reactions. Hence why she was so popular, cuz she knew what and how to act in her surroundings. She just didn't actually have any empathy for humans.
Yuki on the other hand tries seriously hard not to disturb her surroundings and isolates herself from others. Because of this, she is able to fully see what people are feeling and have empathy and such
Why do I get the feeling there's a hidden meaning behind this song? "We resemble one another like birds of a feather. Both of us love to dream and we overdo things." Um... is it just me, or does that sound like the kind of thing an evil villan would say to a hero?
Ryoko's body may produce endorphins, but I think Ryoko mourns not being able to feel anything but happy. Is it just me, or did it seem like Ryoko was about to burst into tears at her death scene?
By looking deeper into the other character songs instead of dismissing Ryoko as evil, I think that all Ryoko wants is the freedom to feel whatever she wants. She sees getting a reaction out of Haruhi a key to unlock her other feelings, since she won't be needed anymore. Here, some lines from her songs.
COOL EDITION; 'My will is not my own, but that's all right. I just want to disappear like a last waltz.' 'If I show you the world I experience, You'll probably get lost in the enumeration of symbols.' 'If I show you the world I experience, You'll probably be paralyzed by fear. A place of dreams? How foolish. I know not of such a location.' 'My name isn't even in the ending credits.' 'Don't bother smiling, Don't bother being warm. I won't feel a thing!' 'I'm in the dark...'
I think Ryoko isn't evil. She just doesn't understand. She herself says she doesn't understand the concept of death.
If her body dies, she won't feel pain and she can be reborn with all her memories around a minute later. If you thought humans were like that, would you have any hesitation about killing them?
I think this song is incredibly interesting in the fact that when compared to Cool Edition, it shows a stark contrast. It's like she has a dual nature...and they're both on very different ends of the spectru. O_o.
I kind of thing this song is her singing about 'herself'--the self she shows other people.
Well, except Kyon. Cool Edition pretty much covered that one.
We all know she's a psychogirl but cool edition even added another aspect to her personality - She also wants to be free ("Break the rules", "My duty is my cage" etc.)
Sounds like the embodiment of "Chaotic Neutral" alignment
I don't want to reveal much but the novels, or season 2 will reveal that she'd be a psycho even as a normal human
And I agree with you about the breaking free part. It sort of seems like she's not content with being a puppet--in the episode where she tries to kill Kyon, I think she says something along the lines of "I was only a backup after all..." and "I thought it was my chance to make change."
@LionelMessi1337 I'm sorry to correct you but a chaotic neutral just does whatever they want, (or cause chaos whenever they can, I can't remember which). Someone who doesn't want to be confined by rules is more of Chaotic good, I do believe. (I would find proper, in depth explantions of the character alignments if I were you as I'm no where near an expert)
*Spoiler*
As for that human bit, that's not so much psycho, more overprotective, with a possible subtly of romantic feeling... maybe?
I'm now very confused, not to mention scared. Ryoko Asakura has this side of herself. But before Cool Editon, honestly nobody would believe that sweet and thoughtful class rep would end.. well with a knife trying to slice Kyon into bits.
Jeez she is my perfect girl, except for the "I'm gonna kill you" part

I think the song is meant to be sung to Haruhi since it was Ryoko's objective to get to know haruhi better, so she intended the song to persuade haruhi and her to be friends. but that is just my theory about the song. ^.^;
Vildrek 2 years ago
It's like if this song was about friendship or something like that

GoldenGohan 2 years ago 2
She is not evil, not even bad, she is just doesnt acknowledge the meaning of death to organic beings.
you can see her real side, when she vanishes and tells kyon to be carefull. She just wanted to see some progress, instead of waiting like monk like nagato
bladerj 2 years ago 4
Perhaps, but in anime that is known as "Evil".
Every anime needs an enemy of some kind. I mean, think about it.
What would the anime 've been without this beautiful humanoid interface?
;)
GoldenGohan 2 years ago
wrong, antagonist, not evil. even the other organization that will opose to haruhi in novel is not evil, they just antagonize the main character.
same for ryoko, she is like a child who made a bad thing without realizing so, would that make children around the world evil ?
bladerj 2 years ago
Hmm Bad example, Ryoko is different from a 'Child'. Compared to Yuki of course XD.
She made her own descision, to kill Kyon. Unlike a kid who doesn't know what he's doing.
GoldenGohan 2 years ago
No, its a good one, she made her decision, must kill kyon to watch more data flow, wich was her objetive, she didnt acount the REPERCUSSION of her actions, nor did she understood it,like she admits to not knowing the concept of death for living organisms.
its like a child stealing say a sweet from somone, she wants the sweet, she takes, she doesnt realize its bad thing to do, untill either repreended or taught to.
bladerj 2 years ago
Well, anyhow XD We won't see her any time soon. T_T..
New season started and 1st episode was awesome XD.
GoldenGohan 2 years ago
Wrong again, we'll be seeing her soon in season 2, endless eight i think.

Normaly id agree, but i feel haruhi is one of the worst dubs out there.
Xsupernova1337 2 years ago
@ Xsupernova1337
While i respect your opinon i choose to voice my own.
Erherm Haruhi has a pretty good dub none of the voices are all too annoying and they left most of the really perverted stuff in so i don't see the problem everyone has with it
ItsukiXIII 2 years ago 3
This could be what Ryoko thought in the morning on the day/episode she wanted to kill kyon...

I like this song~ But I was expecting something like Cool Edition. Hm. Oh well~ Still awesome :D
Dinru 2 years ago
I agree with everyone saying she's not evil. She was just doing what she was programmed to do; observe Haruhi and her affects on the environment.
Still, the lyrics of this song are a big contrast to the "Don't waste your smile on me, I won't feel a thing!" from COOL EDITION.
XavierAXB 2 years ago
she is not evil. she simply does not really get the concept of people wanting to not die.

KyuaJordan 2 years ago 2
I like Ryoko-san's songs the best but my fav character is Yuki
ctaher 2 years ago 31
@ctaher that's just like me. this song makes me so happy but i <3 yuki so much
TheXMJohnson 1 year ago
I think that Ryoko wasn't really good or bad because she was living to a whole different standard. To people, murder is really bad, but killing people probably looks different to the beings of the data world from whence she came. So maybe this is her and what she wants after all, but she still wants Kyon to die.

that made me cry, can't really tell why...
0428733 3 years ago 4
I agree with ryvrdrgn15 that this might be some good buried very deep inside her. (Like a black hole), not to be mean. However I wonder could her character come back. Remember Kyon told Haruhi he wanted to see her along with the others in the "old world". Then again the Data Integration Thought Entity could bring her back as well. Hey! Surprise heart attack to Kyon, all the way from Canada. :)
Enjoyed this very much thanks for posting!

She will make an appearence in the 2nd season.
1madmartagan1 3 years ago
poor ryoko. :(
she isn't evil. she's just kinda misunderstood i guess.
...and she just wants to stop observing haruhi and live her own life.
but i still think she rocks. xD
Sonoko29 3 years ago 7
so does she like kyon too
JUST like the others
mitihiru 3 years ago 3
Personally I don't think she's really evil... She's basically been program to mess with her surroundings, do stuff and see their reactions. Hence why she was so popular, cuz she knew what and how to act in her surroundings. She just didn't actually have any empathy for humans.
Yuki on the other hand tries seriously hard not to disturb her surroundings and isolates herself from others. Because of this, she is able to fully see what people are feeling and have empathy and such
aneomeoak 3 years ago 5
Wow. What a huuuuge contrast to her other character song...love it.
Romaniman 3 years ago 3
Why do I get the feeling there's a hidden meaning behind this song? "We resemble one another like birds of a feather. Both of us love to dream and we overdo things." Um... is it just me, or does that sound like the kind of thing an evil villan would say to a hero?
CocotheNut 3 years ago 8
Ryoko's body may produce endorphins, but I think Ryoko mourns not being able to feel anything but happy. Is it just me, or did it seem like Ryoko was about to burst into tears at her death scene?
By looking deeper into the other character songs instead of dismissing Ryoko as evil, I think that all Ryoko wants is the freedom to feel whatever she wants. She sees getting a reaction out of Haruhi a key to unlock her other feelings, since she won't be needed anymore. Here, some lines from her songs.
SeiryuSuboshisan 3 years ago 7
From her Hare Hare Yukai; 'I spent my life with anticipations and hopes,
But no one is there to grant them.'
'Even if we could map out all of Earth's mysteries,
I still wouldn't be able to go anywhere.'
'Shout from the bottom of your heart but it's futile.
Break off running but I'll still be behind.
Let my heart beat faster, okay?'
'I want to have big dreams too.'

Wotaku16 3 years ago
You know what I think?
I think Ryoko isn't evil. She just doesn't understand. She herself says she doesn't understand the concept of death.
If her body dies, she won't feel pain and she can be reborn with all her memories around a minute later. If you thought humans were like that, would you have any hesitation about killing them?
SeiryuSuboshisan 3 years ago 7

cool edition is really her
DeidaraxNatalie 3 years ago 14
I think this song is incredibly interesting in the fact that when compared to Cool Edition, it shows a stark contrast. It's like she has a dual nature...and they're both on very different ends of the spectru. O_o.
I kind of thing this song is her singing about 'herself'--the self she shows other people.
Well, except Kyon. Cool Edition pretty much covered that one.
Mallorie6593 3 years ago 9
Her character alone is pretty interesting.
LionelMessi1337 3 years ago 11
Ohh, yeah. She's pretty much a nutcase.
And I agree with you about the breaking free part. It sort of seems like she's not content with being a puppet--in the episode where she tries to kill Kyon, I think she says something along the lines of "I was only a backup after all..." and "I thought it was my chance to make change."
I've always like her character.
Mallorie6593 3 years ago 7
Yeah, she is pretty awesome.
graaneedaname 3 years ago 8
@LionelMessi1337 I'm sorry to correct you but a chaotic neutral just does whatever they want, (or cause chaos whenever they can, I can't remember which). Someone who doesn't want to be confined by rules is more of Chaotic good, I do believe. (I would find proper, in depth explantions of the character alignments if I were you as I'm no where near an expert)
*Spoiler*
As for that human bit, that's not so much psycho, more overprotective, with a possible subtly of romantic feeling... maybe?
Parsonator64 1 year ago
This is cute and all but I like COOL EDITION better it shows her true self.

I'm now very confused, not to mention scared. Ryoko Asakura has this side of herself. But before Cool Editon, honestly nobody would believe that sweet and thoughtful class rep would end.. well with a knife trying to slice Kyon into bits.
Jeez she is my perfect girl, except for the "I'm gonna kill you" part
neh1234 3 years ago 4
Just wondering if she wasn't gonna stab you would you find her ability to kill a turn on?
