Thank you for sharing. You are so correct. We are encouraged to see young men of GOd sharing the Truth! It always bothers us when historians say that Christians were behind the crusades when that was not the truth. It was the Catholic church. Denominations are divisions and the original church was one body under Christ as the Head. Let' s keep our eyes on the Author and Perfector of our faith :o)
Actually you are getting there. I'll give you a few more years to learn and clarify your thoughts, but your basic premise is sound.
It is against the morality Jesus taught to use Christianity as a justification for killing and war. So when Constantine legalised Christianity and then tried to manipulate it to save Rome, it did cause a fundamental corruption of doctrine.
Constantine was trying to bind the empire together, he saw Christianity as a means of unifying the empire. He also didn't make it the state religion, just legalized it. (he would be alienating his pagan subjects) Constantine himself was never a convincing christian, his monuments show no christian signs, he himself portrayed himself as a pagan deity in a column. The guy was a genius and used the religions to unify the split empire.
@Pilgrim1411 "The Schism happened between the Roman Orthodox Church and the papists who were under the frankish rule."After the schism there was the eastern Byzantine greek ortodox and the western Roman Latin catholic
The christian church as official religion started at the time of Constantine .The schism happenned MUCH later NOT AT CONSTANTINES TIME.Protestants split from Catholics quite recently
good point about constantine and war,but the denominations started MUCH later with the schism between eastern orthodocks and roman catholic. The Roman catholic church did not start with Constantine ,the church did,After the schism the east said that was following the straight-correct(-ortho) faith (-doks)(by the tradition)While the west said they are catholic(everyones faith-the only faith)Till then there was ONE church, they hunted heretics though
