Around 56 sec. I notice that you use a Dbmaj7 rather than a standard Dbmaj. Is that your variation or was it written that way?
I learned this piece using the Dbmaj but love the variation of the maj7 in your interpretation. I will in corporate it in the second verse from now on. Thank you for your wonderful music.

Hi, I enjoyed your performance, I do have one question. On my music, bar 14 starts with a low c# followed by a triad g# c# e# or a c# maj chord. It sounds to me like you are playing g# c natural e# or a c# Maj7th chord. My music is in the key of D or two sharps ( F and C ) My music is old and not to clear, Should the note be c or c#?
I think you mean bar 15. Well spotted. On the sheet, it is a C# but if you compare Peo's fingering with the sheet, Peo has come up with his own fingering. Plus the fact that Peo has transcribed quite a few other pieces. It would be natural to assume that he may have put in his own effort here. By the way, even Segovia had quite a few versions on this piece (published and performed). So, Peo may be playing one of the other versions.
Hi, I played this a year ago. And when I studied it I came to youtube to see how others play it. And I liked your performance. And now I just watched the video again, and I must admit you're really great. Good job! :)
Excuse me for lacking proper information. I have the "Guitar Adagios" CD album which also includes Torija and that's what I meant with the original song. The one on the CD is very good ofcourse! But I prefer your version :) The room also gives it a nice reverb.
Superb Per-Olov! I first heard this piece on Roland Dyens´s "Citrons Doux" album and I´ver played it ever since.. You got a great feel playing it. I believe Torija is poetically the best cut from whole "Castles of Spain" suite just see the picture of the castle. Thank you for the video.
Hi there! Thanks for your kind comment. I think Moreno Torroba is played too little around since Segovia left us. And I also think this is the best in the suite.
The honor is mine. For me, you seem to capture the spirit, soul and essence of the Spanish (classical) guitar. For me, it seems you have a tremendous amount of empathy for all aspects of the guitar and the composition, and it shows :))) I am really happy I came across this (and now other videos).
Hi. Thanks for "finding" me. I am very happy to read your comment. Very appreciated. Please keep listen to me. Maybe even on my CD with many of the pieces I play on YT... :-) (yes, that was an add...)

Thank you so much for posting this, your interpretation is so tasteful! I had never actually heard anybody play this but I learned the piece and worked on it with my teacher, but now I want to go back and re-learn it with the new insight listening to your version has given me. How long have you been playing? You sound like a professional player.
hey sir, i just wanted to say this is amazing, possibly one of my favorite classical songs and you play it beautifully, congratulations. alot of my friends make fun of me because i have begun to pickup classical guitar, i am 17 i believe it is so fun. i am having alittle trouble teaching myself to read music. where do you find your sheetmusic? anyways thanks!
Hi! Thak you. I play this on a video from Rome (on the streets) I like this too! Don't you listen to your "friends"!! I started to play when I was 16 and was regarded as "different". But look at us now! I am the one doing what I love for a living. They are all working with boring jobs and no money!! LOL
hahaha thats great! i love classical music, i was wondering however if i should try to learn something "less challening" for my first piece, either torija or canon in d. any suggestions for a first classical guitar?
nantucketboy - Keep up your listening and your music reading (it gets easier with time). Don't worry about your 'friends' for now. Just follow your heart, and pretty soon you'll be able to play two or three pieces even half-decently.
Then people will think 'I like this guy - he's different to the usual run-of-the-mill'. And I mean people, as in attractive and intelligent young women.
Each time I have a piece to play, I search for youtube for help, and (almost) always I find yours as the best. I'll be working on Torija, and your play will be, again, a BIG help for me.
LOL. Thanks Athan! I am glad for your comment. I don't think it's the most important thing either but off course I always try to play correct... but I learned this many years ago, and don't like to change anything in it now...
Very nice! I'm interested that you play a C natural on string 2 at 00.57 (bar 15)- is that a known point of difference? Both the editions I've seen have a sharp...
Thanks. I know this is an issue. My teacher back in 1975 told me this was a C not a C#. I know the scoare says C#. I have learned to like the C#major chord and keep it like this. But please play a C#. It's correct.
There's a comment on my sheet music of this suite that after Torroba first published them Segovia went in and edited a some of notes and even went as far as recomposing whole passages. Maybe this C natural/sharp was a difference of opinion Segovia and Torroba had and their individual preferences wound up in different scores along the way.
Segovia often edited scores heavily, especially in the case of Ponce, but probably depending both on the nature of the music and of his relationship with the composer. In the case of the Sonatina Meridional I cannot help preferring Segovia's version, but its the one I've known for years. Maybe in a few decades guitarists will have all the information about originals and edited versions, and their ears will have cleaned out to be able to think about the differences more objectively.
Hey, I'm currently learning all of the pieces from castillos de espania for a recital at ISU. Just started working on this one today, and I must say you play it beautifully
I am studying this piece in my conservatory, and you are the only one on youtube who paid attention to the dynamic markings which make this piece one of the most beautiful for guitar :) nice job
would you be so kind and post "madronos" by Torroba? I guess it would be very exciting to hear how such a tasteful and intelligent player as you are would interprete that awesome song.
I am learning this song, and this is the most enjoyable version that I have encountered. I play it slightly differently, albiet the same notes, but the sound you have is a perfect guide to get me more familiar with the song and mood. Nice work.
Thanks. I am happy to be able to help you in getting to know this piece better. But remember not to copy me. Find your own way to play it! And post it here!! LOL
I'd like to add to at to jive51's comments by saying the following...what I observe is a man that is expressing his emotions through the instrument. As opposed to playing the piece correctly note for note, he is expressing his feelings and his soul and that's why I believe he plays the piece so wonderfully.
WOW! Thank you for your very kind words. I think you are right. I use the guitar as a tool to express myself. I am not a virtuoso but I have so many things to say with my music. I am happy you can hear it in my playing!! Thanks!
Finally, what is the most amazing with you, it's your capacity to carry out the best sound, with each of the notes that you are playing. It's really amazing. I don't know another guitar player having such a capacity. None!
I use the camera mic in this video and in my videoediting software (Pinnacle) I add some reverb.
I must add though, that I spent all my life exploring how to get a good sound out of an instrument by simply practicing the stroke (angle, power a.s.o.) and the shape of the nails. Plus I have a good guitar! Not this one...
What kind of camera (name and model) do you use? I didn't realize that the quality of the mics in video cameras was so good, augmented further by your video-editing software. If you tell me the name and model, I'll buy one and use it to help me develop my playing.
I have a simple Canon MV960. I use the 16 bit/48KHz sound option.
But I really think it is other things like; how good you are to use Pinnacle Studio's plugin and especially your fundamental sound while playing the guitar that is important.
i have a diploma in two weeks time and i have to play this! Its my favourite one i'm doing cos its so pretty. i like your interpretation, and your guitar sounds so nice!
excellent. I've never heard the piece, but hearing you play it just once it's like i've known it all along, like my Spanish nurse sang it to me when i was a wee one. lol. anyhow, very very nice.
Priceless.

Peo,
What kind of camera (name and model) do you use? I didn't realize that the quality of the mics in video cameras was so good, augmented further by your video-editing software. If you tell me the name and model, I'll buy one and use it to help me develop my playing.
Cheers,
Gene.

Dear Gene,
I have a simple Canon MV960. I use the 16 bit/48KHz sound option.
But I really think it is other things like; how good you are to use Pinnacle Studio's plugin and especially your fundamental sound while playing the guitar that is important.
Good luck!

Thanks for the information and advice, Peo. And, please, keep posting the videos of your playing.

Peo, what kind of recording equipment do you use? I know nothing about recording, audio or video. Thanks in advance.

Did it two days ago- it wasnt great; but i did Torija fine, it was more Fantasie by Dowland that was a little dodgy.
If by some freak of nature I've passed, I'll let you know!
Thanks,
Tom
