The funny thing was, at the time, the event was not really big news. The front page covered another plane crash, a passenger jet in the East River in New York City. Sixty-five died in that tragedy. I believe the Holly/Valens/Richardson accident was on page 16 of that newspaper that day.

When the news of the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens' and The Big Bopper breaks, the guitar of Carlos Santana and synthesizers of Miles Goodman starts playing at 0:35 whilst the news of the plane crash gets spread around. Great job on the music score to Carlos and Miles which featured some of Carlos' best guitar work in awhile (shame most people never knew that tidbit). Then when Ritchie's mom breaks down when the steel guitar starts on "Sleepwalk" still gets me today.
