  • If neil did no other songs this one would have kept him a star for 40 years plus, 3 and half minutes of pure joy.

  • thanks for the post. He always performs well and even covers of this song massage my heart muscle ... but it all comes to together with your video and I am having a major release of tears ... it's NOT a sad song, folks, just like my tears aren't sad ones ... by the time we know what Neil is telling in this song, we're over it. The sad shit has already done it's damage and somehow ,,,, here we are .... did you ever know a frog who wanted to be a king and then became one? "I am also!"

  • The greatest Singer with my most favourite song! Awesom, Solemn!!!! Nearly too much to bear the emotions. Bloody nice!

  • great work bwz!!!

  • I was at the show in Indianapolis,IN was a awesome rockin'show ....my first Big concert of Neils...I been to dozens of Slim Whitmans shows and they were great too! TY for sharing.

  • any1 who does not understand the chair lyric needs to get down on their knees and thank God that they don't.

  • What year was this concert? I have seen him about three times

  • year 2008

  • Bearing in mind that I uploaded this video on the 17th March 2007 I can assure you it was not a concert from 2008! :-)

The concert was at the Brmingham NEC, Birmingham, England on Saturday 28th May 2005. My seat is in the 4th row.

  • and he actually SINGS! I have never seen him lip synch....and I think I have seen him at least 6 times! Neil is the best.

  • awesome sound quality! this guy is an awesome singer, songwriter, and live performer.. none better!

  • and I saw him in New Zealand three times and Australia too - and the tree people thank you Neil. And the common paying people like me just loved it

  • Dear Neil,

I sww you in Germany. It was brilliant!!! I love your songs and that is the reasing that I make a tribute show from you!

    Greetings from Berln

  • WTG on that "Neil7540"... full agreement and I am one at 55yo... we swam across the big Pond to watch Neil at the O2 on his 1st night!!! We missed the seats sold around in Europe, yeahh, there were some available but janitor seats, by the exits...don't want those!!! Called our buddy, and he secured us two Privy seats just meters away from podium... parking was 26 quids though...aaaarghhh!!! but worth every minute spent...

  • Neil is one of the greatest! Obviously, myndenway has NOT heard Neil's music!

Thank you Blue&White for this - know about the security at his concerts audio is perfect.

  • "not even the chair"

    lol

He will never live that lyric down. He must have been dropping acid when he wrote the song.

  • The lyric was written because in the cheap hotel room that he wrote the song in, that was the only piece of furniture in the room other than the bed. He was utterly alone. Try traveling on the road for a living, and this song becomes all the more meaningful. I just spent 6 months on the road, and, while the rooms were nicer, the furniture never changed. All that changed was whether it was a "right-hand" or "left-hand" room. It was absolutely depressing, even if it was a steady paycheck. Peace:-)

  • I was here

  • my fav neil diamond song and was at the o2 to see him sing it live and it was flawless, the man is a legend pure class, and its not only old people who love him , im 32 and there were people younger than me and people older all around, only class can do that,

  • Thanks a lot for taking the time to post. The best version I've heard imo. Cheers :-)

  • A god in his own right.

    from Iran

  • The man's still got it. Can't wait for his next cd due out in a month or two!

  • Thank you for transporting me back to happier times! Saw "The Diamond" in May 2005 at Sheffield with my boyfriend, brilliant night!! Sadly no longer together and am raising our beautiful baby daughter alone. Just watched this clip with her and she was clapping and singing along to her daddy's favourite song! Priceless!!!!!

  • non ho parole... meravigliosa.. quanti ricordi... :-)

  • how great it must have been to be there.

    Thanks!

  • Great clip! I was there on that night-it was a memorable concert experiance. Doesn anyone know when he's touring England again?

  • Neil will be at the 02 centre on the South Bank in London this June or July; we have just got tickets. I think this is part of a UK tour. Enjoy if you can make it.

  • you can give retirement advice after you sell out wembley stadium with a 9 piece band.

  • yEA YA RIGHT HE STILL SO ROCKS ME, ROCK ON MR. DIAMOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So what do you like now, bycicle horns and police whistles over and over?? Thatt's music? Fergie suck's. So do the "Black Eyed Peas". Mr. Diamond sings REAL music. =Stefan=

  • Great!!!where and when was this concert?...wish that I was there...thank you for posting...

  • You're very welcome!

May 2005, Birmingham NEC, Birmingham England, UK

  • Good Job! Sound is good. First time I saw Neil was shortly after the "Stones" album was released In Terre Haute IN. in 1970. He said during the concert the song "I AM, I SAID" came to him as a result of being turned down for a movie role (Lenny...a movie about Lenny Bruce) and didn't know what direction his life was taking as a transplanted New Yorker living in LA. Just a little trivia.

  • Disagree with the leonard cohen comment, The man sing's it just like Neil Diamond sing's it, and we all know who has been more successful in that field, I mean I like cohen but I think the guy has matured pretty good and as pointed out earlier 12 Song's attracted me to ND and I cant wait for the new one to come out.

Fantastic recording, always prefer sound over visual regarding concerts.

I was on the VERY front row at sheffield and the man was a genuis on stage

  • great audio but i would liked to have seen the camera more on Neil not the lights above.

  • Yeah, I'd 've liked that too. However it was difficult to film with security being so tíght. If they see you have a camera you lose it. So you have to be careful. I just concentrated on getting some audio. It was a great concert!

  • i was there birmingham nec., sounded better actually being there.. brilliance, pure talent

  • Great audio nice job

  • Still sounding good even better to me

  • Thanks for your comment. This was recorded on May 28th 2005 live at the Birmingham (UK) NEC. All you say is true. Deeper voice, but oh....what a voice!

  • This must be a recent concert since it's obvious Neil Diamond is older. I was wondering what Neil Diamond sounded like nowadays. He sings this song like Leonard Cohen would...maybe due to less lung capacity??? It would be neat if he changed the lyrics of this song to something where he's reflecting back on his life. Audio's good.

  • Briguy2u have you listened to "hell Yeah" on his latest cd 12 SONGS? It is his reflecting on his life. Great song and all the rest are wonderful. Critics have said this is his best cd in 30 years. It went gold. Give it a listen.

  • i feel an emptyness deep in side...i try but it don´t let me go
