I've read the British audience turned on Benny toward the end of his career because he lacked "class," and so he died alone and broke. Lousy ending for a dear, sweet, fun guy who gave us big laughs with his innocently sexy burlesque skits. To hell with prudes who don't appreciate young cuties in slapstick comedy.
