  • thumbs up for 240p

  • does anybody know were i can watch episode of this online ?

  • So the worms make the spice, which allowed those little creatures to warp space, which allowed humans to travel through the vastness of space. But why did the Fremen's eyes turn blue? Did they eat the spice or something? Why would they do this? Did they worship the worms? Or want to be closer to them?

Always meant to read the books, but havent had time to. I did watch the movie and miniseries though, but I don't remember them explaining this.

  • Time for God Emperor of Dune.

  • @kkchance this was aired in like 2004...as far as I know its never been on since but I believe u can get it on dvd

  • Okay I act like a freakin fangirl screaming "JAMES MCAVOY!" Sorry :D

  • @3xSukiChanx3 yea me too...

  • Saw the old 80´s movie and played the games. Is this series worth a watch?

  • my family has all the books, and weve never read them. not gonna lie though i tried and its really hard for me to read those.

  • @Zandarhoti

    You like enya?

    Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • damm i have wait till mar 16 to watch this shit

  • i was much more impressed by this movie, when i saw it first, ever, than the star trek and star wars.... they are nice, but come on, they are full of cliches, unclear, common... more commercial than this, brutal, and the list of flaws could go on and on...

    but hey thats my opinion...

  • Does anyone recognize the song in the background I looooove it. Sounds like Enya but I dunno...

  • @zanderhoti It's an original piece by Brian Tyler from the Children of Dune soundtrack. He was inspired by the Fremen language in the books, and the lyrics are in fact "Fremen" :). It's sung by Azam Ali, who is Iranian. Love love love love this song forever and always. It's magical and soulful and spiritual and completely captures the essence of this entire book and film series.

  • @zanderhoti The song is from the series soundtrack. Its called Inama Nushif, written & composed by Brian Tyler, who did the score for the series. It is sung by Azam Ali.

If you can get the entire soundtrack, do. It is awsome. I love movie scores and this one earns its place on the shelf right next to Lord of the Rings.

  • The film is on veoh.com. It's free, but you gotta download their webplayer (not spyware, afaik) I love both this and Lynch's film. Lynch took liberties with the lore and characters, but I love the atmosphere he created. And Children of Dune is simply epic. Definite improvement over the first miniseries.

  • For those of you hating on the 1984 Lynch version... Have you even read the f*cking book? With the exception of the weirding modules and the rain, the movie stayed fairly close to Herbert's vision. Yes, Lynch took some liberties in his adaptation, but it remains a solid movie. It's easy for you fanboys to rip on a movie that's almost 30 years old and had no CGI. The sets and costume design were much better than the SyFy version.

  • @MasterJediDude

Dune is literally my fave sci fi of all time. I love it so much I cant express it enough, in any tongue. And similarily to BladeRunner, the soundtrack completed it. Without it, the movie would have been lesser.

I read the book twice. So the only crit I have of it is that it wasnt long enough in my opinion. They managed it well within the small confines of time allocated to them. But I'd have preferred it to have been split.lengthened accordingly, into three parts. Like they-

  • @MasterJediDude

-they did with Matrix. And I LLLLOOOVE the weirding modules. You cant get more sci fi than that, hehe. Rather than always having lasers, nah, they have sound that can be fashioned into different applications, for different effects.

And I simply LOVE the worms. I saw a glimpse of the worms in this trailer. They look pretty cool. I thought the worms in the 1984 Dune were perfect! So Im dying to see these ones. I've go the series waiting for me at home as I write this.

  • @MasterJediDude It's not the aging that i take issue with, it's the fact that it skips over most of book, giving us a rushed ending that takes a hell of a lot more than SOME liberties.

  • The sandworms are changed :\

I liked the one in the prequel better.

  • The more I think about, the more I agree with making Leto a teenager instead of a nine year old for the events of the story.

  • I must not fear

    Fear is the mind killer

Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration

    I must face my fear

I must let it pass over and through me

And once it has gone past

I must turn the inner eye to see its path

Where the fear has gone There is nothing

    Only I will remain

  • I like the miniseries. Much better than the 2000 Dune miniseries and, despite the fact that I like it, it's a 100 times better than the 1984 David Lynch film.

I can't help but wonder if the 1984 film wouldn't have been better had Lynch not cut an hour's worth of film off the final version under studio and producer pressure. Dino de Laurentiis (the producer) admitted later in life that they had killed Dune in the editing room. Sadly, those cut reels are yet to be found. Probably never will be.

  • books are boring

  • @vicestrike Hurr derp herp hurrr hurr.

  • @vicestrike Not this books! At least not the first one, I haven't read the sequels.

  • james.

  • I don't understand... I think I watched a movie in which there was that guy... hmmm the harkonnen red head...lol... or that were the TV shows... lol... I want to watch it again but I don't know the name of that movie/tv show

  • 1:18 Leto speaking the Litany Against Fear... goosebumps!! :-)

  • OH Damn!!! THE BEST FUCKING SERIES EVER!!!

  • I just started reading the book today. Im on page 22. I think im gonna watch this first then read the book :)

  • I haven't had the chance to see this series yet, but in my opinion, this looks to be by far the best adaptation of Frank Herberts work. Even though it takes a few liberties with the story (such as making the twins older than they are in the book), it definately manages to capture the best parts of the books. The cast, cinematography, and music also look excellent.

  • i hope someone makes a movie or even an anime series(seriously bloody one) of the books predating dune. the wars man fought against machines and titans.

  • @tropsmoo they should make a book on it first

  • @Belgarion234 there r books on it, a group of them. it goes over how the houses got started. house atreides, corrino, etc. the books r bad ass. it also goes over how the bene geisserte(i spelled that wrong im sure) got started. it pretty much fills in everything that has come to date. u gotta go read them

  • Simply amazing!! Love it!

  • i liked the 1st dune more

  • I always liked this mini series when it came in my senior year in high school so yes now reading the book so can understand it more

  • i really should see this.....

  • Everything after the first book is so sad :(

  • @toms1266 lol yeah.. but thats the point every great civilization has its own seeds of destruction.. but by far letos ending was the saddest

  • i heard somewhere that they're going to be making a movie of Dune...i think it's suppose to come out in 2012... does anyone know if this is true...???

  • @m8151988 Yes its True The direktors of the Films were planed as Peter Berg or the Avatar Director, but they didnt make it because of another Project called Battleship wich starts 2012 too. So Dune will be done but nobody knows whats the cast and who will take the camera. Hopefully there will be a very good cast. None No Starts movie. Thats what i didnt liked on the Children of Dune. And hopefully not to much effects in it. Another thing i hated about the children of Dune miniseries.

  • @derblicker

Avatar is actually like Dune if you think about it. I mean it has the same story of an outcast who goes on an exotic planet, falls in love with a strange girl, joins a rebellous tribe, fights for a precious substance, tames the wild beasts, becomes a messiah and that sort of thing. Cameron is a huge fan of the Dune novels yet he despises Lynch's mess and was influenced by Dune when he did Avatar as much as The Matrix is like Dune too.

  • @Johnlindsey289 ?? Matrix is like dune? no way

  • @derblicker

Well Dune novels were one of the inspirations to The Matrix, if you think about. Neo is the same as Paul Atredis as both are outcasts that have been in a prophecy to become messiahs of great power, Trinity is the same as Chani, Morpheus is like Gurni/Duncan Idaho, Oracle is like Reverend Mother, Agent Smith is like the Baron, Matrix people are like Fremen, More smiths are like Harkoennens, and even the energy in the matrix is like the spice.

  • @Johnlindsey289 well in matrix humans are batteries nothing more

dune novels were much inspiration for so much. Same thing by blade runner wich also got many people to think- But its a bit to easy to take one sci fi and compare it with the other one. All got their permitions but all films and books BR Dune Matrix got other ideas and philosophie. Its not like ive seen one ive seen all sci fis. Dune the books are no pure sci fi at all.

  • @derblicker

Well besides Matrix, Dune by Herbert also influenced Star Wars, James Cameron's Avatar (Cameron is a huge fan of the Dune novels), Stargate, The Dark Crystal, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, The Fifth Element, Dark City, Serenity, Riddick and more ain't i right? i think Nausicaa is the film in 1984 that pays tribute to Frank Herbert's Dune as an inspiration and everything Lynch's monstrosity should have been when it's the better Sci-fi/fantasy epic of 1984 while Dune was a flop

  • @Johnlindsey289 I guess you didnt knew that Avatar was a Game before and the concept isnt from Dune its a own game wich was released 2 years earlyer and hadnt made it in the popularity without the film. Game was a flop. James CAmeron didnt made the concepts and not the Story. Maybe he is deep influenced from Dune but it didnt make a clue Dune is like Avatar to me. Well you told every Sci Fi you know but dont know the basics beyound it. Fifth Element was directed by French Luc Besson.

  • @derblicker

Really? Cameron made a game for Avatar before the movie? awesome.

  • @Johnlindsey289 nope sir not Cameron another PC Game firm

the game for the movie came out again after the movie.

But 2 Years before the release of the movie there came the same game out and it wasnt noticed.

  • I've read the book when I was in the 8th grade or 7th and it has stayed my favourite SF book ever since. However the first movie made after it was a total failure - from a fan's point of view. A remake with present time technology would be great with the right director and actors.

  • ah love dune it,s my favourite book of all time

but I,ve never even heard of this film

    obviously I,ve read the books

    would love to see this

    any chance it,s on DVD

  • It's on DVD yes, and in (only France for some reason) it was released on Blu-Ray as well.

Anyway, the first book is great, whilst the miniseries definitely are good they still leave a lot out that the books include, I do wish we'd get future mini-series or a new attempt at a long movie of Dune though, with modern technology it could be amazing.

  • there,s currently a remake being made of dune

    can,t remember the details

read about it a coupla weeks ago

but no children of dune on the SCI-FI channel in the UK

  • yep, the remake will be directed by pierre morel (taken) after peter berg has quit his work. paramount will release this movie and the script is now in production. it will hit the cinema by the end of 2011. really looking forward.

  • @Gargantou well the 84s version is out on Blue Ray too. Yes i know nobody realy likes it But i do lol. And i think its a good film even i read all the books and not all of it is in there. I Hope they dont make a nonsense out of the Books by a newstart in Cinemas. Thats what no one wants and no one wanna See.

  • @derblicker

I despise Dune-in-name-only by David Lynch, it was a perversion of a great novel and a real expensive turkey that makes Ishtar or Battlefield Earth look like gold.

  • @Johnlindsey289 battlefield earth was the biggest flop ever lynchs version is cult

i dont think you should not compare dune with Battlefield Earth wich was a game.

Dune is much bigger and better than everything else. Whatever the fans say lynchs adaption was great in 1985 it wasnt quite like the books but i dont think it had to be.

Im lookin forward for a new film version.

  • Comment removed

  • @derblicker

The 1984 movie was a big 47 million dollar bomb that made no sense and one of the worst movies i've ever seen, such a fraustrating incoherent pile of vomit and shit that Lynch put his name on and one of the worst movies ever made. It's only got a cult following because it's a train-wreck for it's a Lynch movie not a Dune movie, they hired the wrong man for the part when it should have been the Holy Mountains dude or Ridley Scott but never ever hire David Lynch for a big movei.

  • @Johnlindsey289 well thats your oppinion, i dont think so and such people whom bought all the film still today cant be wrong. Im waitin for another film maybe someone gets realy good in a new way. But its silly to say there were bad actors in lynchs version. It wasnt at all. Patrick Stewart,Jürgen Prochnow and such.

Well i respect the Designers and the sile of the movie. Maybe you wont but im no Purist im openmindet to other versions wich werent in the books like the spice color for example

  • Ahh the movies kinda go on their own in a way, they mess up things or decide to do what they want during the movies, I dont know about children of dune though im gonna get it so i can see what they have done. But the dune made in 2000 sucked no joke lol.

  • My favorite, James was so hot in this one:X

  • Ooh interesting! :D

  • its a version of dune that did its job, i enjoyed,it, wish they did more with it

  • It's the definative Dune on screen

  • is this a direct sequel to the one from the 80's or more like another adaptation of the book(s)..or both? lol Just wondering if seeing the first one is required in order to follow this one. I've seen the 80's one and read the first book, just wondering.

  • Its a follow on from the Sci-Fi channels more recent Mini-Series of Dune but if you have read the Book then you can dive straight in but the earlier Dune is worth watching. The books are better though!

  • correct. and the house books. let you know how everything and anyone forms. and all sides. and sometimes soooo hard. like in the serie where they kill edric. pffff. in the book you read this. in the serie you see it. but the whole dune saga is MASTER FULL.

  • yea, i looooooooooooooooooved both mini series, but do u know what comes after children of dune?

  • God Emperor of Dune, then Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse: Dune.

  • @DukeMulder its a neverending story if the books or the films were or are better I Read all Books and watched all films and in my Opinion None of the films are perfect. I Prefer the books in everytime. But i was fine with the 80s Film even not all of the well done details of the Novel was in it. There are haters and lovers of the 80s version and also haters and lovers of the TV Series. It will be all time.

And if they plan a sequel i know, it cant be perfect before it starts.

  • 0:20 rock burner?

  • Yup a Rock Burner. :)

  • @DukeMulder stone burner

  • Stone burner

  • LOVE IT ! someone once posted the whole movie but i cant find it anymore--it must have been taken down :(

  • yup. i couldnt find it anymore. haih.

  • Any dune book will be ass raped. Those books were so amassed with writing that any good movie based on those books will be broken down. Remember the Lord Of The Rings movies

were three hours plus long and they still had to cut out whole parts from the screenplay.

  • just a fantastic series

  • The name of soundtrack in this video is - Inama Nushif composed by Brian Tyler

  • I so have to read this book next! And yet I want to spoil it by watching this first. XD I loved the first book, which I finished a couple weeks ago. Frank Herbert is amazingly thorough and deep in his writings. Even the damn appendix is entertaining!

  • i tottaly agree. al the things you see in this wonderfull, serie. you feel in te book. Dune is sooooooo powerfull. seening this trailer. ohhhhh shifffers.

  • They picked a good actor for paul. just how i imagined him...he should be a bit more um..weathered as the preacher though

  • Friend told me about Dune right before the semester ended. I've been reading'm nonstop and just finished "Children of Dune" this morning. My head feels like all awesome and over-packed!

So what's next to read? Should I go after these movies/series or start "God Emperor"?

  • I'd go ahead and watch both miniseries, and then read God Emperor of Dune. It's probably best to watch them while you still have the books fresh in your mind.

In my opinion God Emperor of Dune was one of the weaker novels, but still good.

  • Yeah if you want to read them in order of just Frank Herbert.. after God Emperor, then Heretics of Dune, Chapterhouse Dune. Reading them too, know exactly what you mean :D

  • you should read House Atreides prequel up house corrino, then read butlerian jihad. then come back to god emporer :) Ive read all 16 maybe books. fantastic stuff.

Brian Herbert and Kevin Andersons' books are like a break from all the philosophy and desert. more of an action adventure, but with all the backstories you would expect. Butlerian Jihad was awsome, I really enjoyed it. you get all the backstories of the houses, bene gesserats, choam, spacing guild, and suk doctors :) love it

  • God Emperor. Thats when it gets really really really good!

  • you cant really understand what going on unless you read the books. im reading chapterhouse now. anyway this mini series rule.

  • "I am his wife!"

"You have his name, I am in the one he calls wife"

I read dune so im guessing thats Chandi & the Princess Irulan?

  • i've seen the movie, but i better read the book... it's hard to understand what's going on in everyone 's mind!

  • The books are far better than the Mini-Series/Films!

But they probably have brought Dune to the "Masses".

  • i agree. i from holland. i am reading house harkonnen. soooo good. but when i saw the first time. where they kill edric. pfffffff. shifffers. but all of dune is soooo power full. love from chris from holland

  • @DukeMulder

They already did Duke and they were called The Matrix and Avatar since they are the same thing as Dune by Herbert.

  • I really liked this movie, but I dont think it managed to catch the essence of Frank Herbert. It was still infinitely better than the 1984 Dune monstrosity.

  • @Cirvantes123

Better than the ok first mini-series and better than Lynch's turd.

  • One of the best fucking trailer ever.

  • So true. I remember watching this trailer on the big screen 6 years ago, and it was awesome! :)

  • I've just recently started watching this and its terrific!

  • They need to make a movie on the Butlerian Jihad!

  • That would be good!

  • Dune is second only to starwars. Even better than lord of the rings! I wish more people knew about it.

  • I think Dune is even better than Star Wars but you are right it probably is the least known amongst these three.

    Spread the word!

The BBC should pick up the Mini-Series rather than showing the rubbish that they currently do!

  • well for me nothing is better that Lord of the Rings (for example, Middle Earth's history is even more complex than that of Dune's universe), but I love Dune.

  • Have you read all the dune books?

In 2010 there will be a other dune movie!!!

  • Yeha I know there will be another movie!!! :-) I only hope they make a good job. I've seen all the mini-series and they are pretty good, so the movie must be absolutely phenomenal, otherwise, it'll be a great waste of money. By the way, I've read only the first 2 books. I'm reading the 3rd book and the 4th and 5th are already on their way by mail. I'm loving this series.

  • new movie..praise God, and Frank Herbert

  • that's only your opinion, bergis81. For me, LOTR (both the novels and the movies) are true masterpieces. Besides, why do you say it "sucks"? The fact that something "is not the best" for you, doesn't mean it "sucks".

  • I found the "Lord of the Rings" books to be very dissapointing. While "Dune" is easily one of the greatest works of art that I have ever read.

  • Amen to that!

  • ;~; I wish scifi would Air the Dune movies again... I saw them once... fell in love and havn't seen them since...

    Where'd you get this? *envy*

  • I think I got it from the Sci-Fi website when they were still showing it!

They or another channel should show them again! Dune is something that everyone should know about!

  • James McAvoy!! :D

  • 1:30 what the song name?

  • they gotta make god emperor instead of making the dune again alec newman was the best paul muad'dib and if they continue the series they gotta get william hurt to be miles teg because its mentioned he looks just like duke leto

  • is there an uncutversion of this like the Dune 2000 one

  • dunes second to star wars and the original is better but children isnt bad

  • Dune is possibly the best sci-fi epic saga ever written. I think Children of Dune was better than the original even though it didn't have as much action. For some reason the acting, dialogue and direction was much better. Thank you for posting this trailer; it's a really enticing one.Especially the choice of music.

  • i love Leto he is a cool character and paul is also cool

  • THIS movie is SOOO brilliant. So near at the book, brilliant actors, a wonderful Leto II, Ghanima, and PAUL rules. So wonderful. I can watch it again and again. Thanks for making it.

    But....

    I wanna see GODEMPEROR :-D

  • I didn't make it, the credit for the trailer and ofcourse the movie/mini-series goes to the Sci-Fi channel.

I will accept thanks for posting it though!

  • I have read all 6 books, this film is great, but sometimes divert from the book.

  • Beautiful.

  • I would love the original remade, but this one I cannot wait to see after I read the book. it looks amazing

  • This film is complete, and utter brilliance. And I remember seeing this trailer 6 years ago. It got me pumped back then, and I was not dissapointed. And I love the film more with each viewing. :)

  • @Transformers217

Great movie, do you think it's better than the first and the 1984 turkey? i am a huge fan of the Dune novels and there will be a LOTR style Dune movie coming soon in possibly 3 parts. Even though there were recent Dune-like movies like Avatar and The Matrix out.

  • @Johnlindsey289 I do think that the "Children of Dune" mini-series is the best adaptation of the Dune books.

And I also see a lot of simularities between "Avatar" and Frank Herbert's "Dune." At least when it's pointed out to me. lol!

  • i bought the dvd and loved it. now i am gonna read the book... thks for sharing

  • Thanks for commenting!

  • you know,it was this video of yours that made me find out more about this series.I had only watched the dune-saga many years ago on tv and loved it.but that was all to it.because of one incident I remembered the movie and actually just wanted to watch the trailer once again, but than, there was this link to your video and one thing let to the other.now,i have the dvd's of both and I am reading the book and loving it more and more.

you see, that's what your video did :D

    have you read the book?

  • well, film's brilliant. but the film can't be compare with book.

  • OMG i love CHILDREN OF DUNE! Haven't read the book yet but did finish the first one and i can't wait to read more!!! keep telling my friends that James Mcavoy was the first time i saw this mini series and they like never heard of this mini series at all. I know saddd like they should lol

  • music from this series was absolutely brilliant! I hear it being used for other movie trailers a lot (a recent one that I can't remember, and it was used for Master and Commander)

  • I just got done reading Dune Messiah and am currently about 50 pages into Children of Dune. I haven't gotten to watch the movie adaptation yet though.

  • Oh i love this!! Its my favourite thing series ever, i cant decide which i love more children of dune or Dune??!! Honestly i watchi it like every month, course i do have it on dvd so i get extra sad points!! By the way is that james McAvoy??

  • Yes that is James McAvoy!

Thats ok I have both on DVD as well!

  • woot!

  • Good Fx!

  • I think so :)

  • What country is this miniseries shown in? What channel?

  • It was first broadcast in the USA on March 16, 2003.

This miniseries and its predecessor were two of the three highest-rated programs ever to be broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Your best bet for watching it is to buy the DVDs.

  • Thanks a lot!! :)

  • its the most beautiful music which I ever heard

  • i love the dune books. but i thought they got confusing after dune messiah. i love the prelude series better. i wonder why sc-fi ch. stopped making mini-series.

    thanks for posting the trailer

  • actuallt the score if you want to download is by brian tyler children of dune

  • I was never a fan of dune massiah but I loved children of Dune rather strange I feel the dune massiah episode is the strongest in this series.

The trailer really shouldn't give away the last line of the book in the middle of it!

  • This was THE best work ever done on behalf of Sci Fi Channel.

  • what is the music used in the trailer

  • It's called Inama Nushif, sung by Azam Ali. It's inspired by a Fremen excerpt from the book.

By the way, I loved this miniseries. Good adaptation of the books. :) And the musical score is amazing.

  • thanks dude... it wasn't bad but I enjoyed the books more

  • And Inama Nushif is written entirely based on the Fremen language.

    It means 'She Is Eternal'

    xx

  • Well, there isn't really enough source material on the fremen language for it to actually be written based on it. Basically the lyrics writer just took random fremen words ands passages and gave them his own meanings. The first few lines are also identical to a fremen passage in the dune encyclopedia, where it is translated completely different. Neither source is canon though, so who can say which of them is more correct, if either.

  • one of the most inventive sci-fi series. purley awesome! I would love to be a Corrino.

  • children of dune is the continuation of Dune?

  • Yes this miniseries combines Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.

  • the soundtrack of this miniserie is awesome!!

    and precious

  • The music in that movie was pure awesomeness.

  • does this movie has Dune Messiah Children of Dune and God Emporer of Dune?

  • no only dune messiah & children of dune

  • ok thanks :)

  • This miniseries combines Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.

  • does anyone know the title of this soundtrack? pls help =)

oh and btw, I loved the book and the film. frank herbert was genious..

  • The title of the song if Inama Nushif and is on the Children of Dune soundtrack

  • thanx a lot.. and do u know mybe what's the title of the song that runs in opening credits? you can see it on 'children of dune part1' video between 4:48 and 6:02 minutes

  • does anyone know if they are going to make another movie?

  • i got to talk to the creators :) i asked & they said no studio has offered to make a film but they'd like to

  • thanks for the info.

  • I love how scytale
