  • You appear to be a nice quiet rider in this video.....good for you.

  • Well done! thats basicaly exactly what my filly did when i first got on her and i fell off right away i was being a dummy and got on her bareback. lol

  • Omg i hope breaking my horse Bad company goes this well. Im trying to take it extra slow to make sure i dont end up on the ground.

  • You did every thing so right in this situation! Honestly I hate seeing people hop on a young horse, have it bolt, and nearly rip its mouth out and basically ruin it. Great job on keeping the hands out of it! Also, kudos for having eyes on the ground to help!

  • this is lovely and so is she x

  • perfect example of a well broken horses first ride :) youve done a great job with her.

  • Great job, way to keep your cool and stick with the sucker! You look like a really great rider :)

  • i do some horse breaking myself and although a little different to how you do it, i like to see riders like yourself who allow the horse to move foward and settle rather than automatically pull on the reigns and stress it out, just wanna say good work, shows a real quality rider in any discipline. :D

  • I'm assuming you didn't ride him much after this?4-5 is normally the right age to start any riding work. You did a great job to stay on. He was more freaked out about you being on him than being aggressive. Love her tail its all curly :)

  • Why start them so young? Aside from that you remained calm but that's just too young to start a horse in my opinion. I didn't start my gelding until he was 4. He just wasn't ready before that.

  • Very nicely done (:

  • I usually don't break until their at least 3 years old. Even for big boned QH's and TB's. I remember the first horse I broke was a mustang mare from a heard in Nevada and for the first 3 times on her back all she did was back up... she refused to walk forward.

  • Aw you did brilliantly, and what a good little mare she is! xx

  • Great job staying on. And ignore Equestrian08; some people have to trash others to keep themselves from falling off their high horse. And, if done gently and properly, 2.5 is certainly not too young. ;)

  • poor horse

  • @gatsbygirl14 poor u when a give u a black eye. i would love to see u break in a horse. STEAMER!

  • What a stupid comment about your muffin top!! I'm sure you had better things on your mind then whether you looked good on the camera or not, what a stupid bloody comment. Ignore it!! That riding was bloomin good and you stayed on great in the beginning. Well done girl!! keep up the good work!!

  • Great stuff, you look like you're having fun and that's important. So thrilling to see how there was a time when no one had ridden the horse and next thing here you are sitting on top and just gliding along. I don't know if there's anything quite like taming horses, I think the height of the whole thing is when you are realising that he's not going to buck you off and you just stay there half hoping and half knowing that it can't go wrong.

No need to justify yourself, just show that skin!

  • What a nice little filly. Good job staying with her, Strawberry :)

  • very good for the first ride but only with 2.5 years ?

  • Good job!

  • @Equestrian08 stfu. you think your so cool and come on here and tell me what to wear! hah your funny.. this was YEARS ago.. and our summers are very hot.. sometime120 degrees.. if you dont like it dont watch it. and keep your comments to yourself

  • @Equestrian08 riding colts is scary and the last thing a rider should be worrying about when riding them is whether or not their showing a little bit of skin. Strawberryjam5 you did just fine and keep riding those colts it makes a better tougher rider!

  • Ewww buy a belt and a fitting shirt for that muffin top please.

  • Good job, looks like a sweet filly too!

  • 2.5 years is to young for the first ride. 3 or 3.5 years is better

  • btw perelli (or however you spell his name) is a joke.

  • i just LOVE how everyone on here is a professional... lol more like ten minuite BOOK professionals... im sure you agree as well.

  • @aqhcountrygirl Yeah, I agree with you, but don't be too hard. A lot of people just have to tell you the wonders of their horses and let everyone know they have a horse instead of just making a comment here and there.

I suppose when you're around horses and don't give it much importance you act more natural because it's natural for you.

I also agree about starting age etc, it's always about HOW you go about your animals. In Spain many things are neither better nor worse, just different .

  • and no it doesnt hurt a horse to start them that young, its how hard you ride them is what hurts them... if you ride the dog shit out of them when they are undevolped it may cause problems but really starting them that young isnt going to mess them up.

  • awe what a good filly =) she was like "oh god" haha. and no your pony is NOT lame (i say pony out of habbit im aware this is a horse lol) you cant expect an unbroke horse to look or ride or feel perfect the first time cause they have not a clue in hell whats going on

  • wow thats awesome for a first ride!

  • Wow great job! That horse is beautiful! After that little freak out he(or she) seemed to act pretty good. Your an exellent rider by the way :)

  • lol well thats the way to do it! Good Job

  • That's a good minded horse right there. I was told my 6-year old didn't buck with the saddle or her first ride either, and she's turning out to be one of the best horses I've ever trained.

  • yeah she is... it helps to have a horse that was broke correctly =] thanks for the comment

  • You're most welcome! Just curious, but has she EVER bucked? I know the same horse I was telling you about bucked only once with me, but that was right after she colicked and had been given medication, so I figured she was just feeling good. Plus, she was already hyper, and I was stupid and let her take off while trying to get her to lope.

  • i only got to ride her a few times after this but the times i did ride her she didnt buck

  • wow s/he has a really good temperment for a younge horse,he just had a funny 5 then he just trotted round,if only the horses i get on did that .

    good job x x

  • haha yeah,, thanks for the comment

  • weird a 2.5 horse evrey one i know trains horses when they turn 5 and they work well into ther 30s and are fine. just saying starting a horse young isnt the best.

  • ok, well alot of trainers start there horse even younger, not saying its good, not saying its bad =]

  • well i agree but race horses are young and they die all the time its sad but true many equine vets say that starting a horse later in life means they have more time to grow and delope before having weight to cary and breaking in is a stressfull thing the horse needs time asking any equine vet they would say the same that if you let there bones grow and keep them cared for and start them later then they live and work longer and thats true.

  • all the horses im around have been started at 2.5-3 and they have no problems. as a trainer i fell that if the horse is mentally and physically ready to start then i start them, if there not i wait and turn them out to pasture.. thanks for your concern though

  • Good job! How is she doing now?

  • she was my trainers horse.. and well i dont see much of her anymore :/

  • wow good job. beautiful horse.. love your hands soft and nice fore a young horse

  • thank you =]

  • good job :)

  • thank you :]

  • wow. omg you're good!

  • Thanks :]

  • We have a two year old colt at my barn named Axel and he got his first ride last thursday and he did great. Barley bucked. Your horse looks to be doing well also. Good Job staying on!

  • i love her tail

  • me too, it drags on the ground now :]

  • wow u must really take care of her lol my mare named Katie hers used too but one of my friends donkey chewed it off =(

  • She wasn't bad at all. HAHA come ride my 2 yr old. He will teach you how stallions say GET OFF MY BACK. LOL. Nice mare though.

  • thank you, and i know what you mean, i broke her half brother about a month after this and he was crazy

  • Moron!! I thought it was good that you stayed on!! maybe not much of a show, but still a good recovery!! and very funny:)

  • haha

  • Have you rode her since?

  • only a couple times

  • she is pretty tight behind but most horses look like that first time they're ridden it was probably because she hadnt found her balance yet

  • WOW again. And why would u tie a horse up with a saddle on all day?

  • to get them to stand quietly with tack on? goodness. also its not all day more like lunge them, to get all the bucks out and tie them wait 1-2 hours then mount up. thats how my trainer did things, and as long as you were riding/training his horse you did things his way. this isnt my horse i was just getting the experience of breaking horses.

  • Wow, reading back I guess it did look like I was talking to myself. No, I was responding to earlier comments but forgot about the reply button I guess. I don't think she is lame at all, just has a funny gait. She looks really nice. Do you have any current vids?

  • i wish i did, and i might soon, im trying to buy her.

  • oh and her head isnt bobbing at all, watched million times, she is very light on her feet, plus the hard uneven footing of the roundpin didnt help, thanks for your concern, but she is not limping

  • well lets see, my trainer said nothing about this, i was riding her and i know i would have felt it.. and 3,222 people have watched this vid and i have 26 comments and your the first person to say this, shes not limping! i know this horse better than anyone, shes never been lame, that roundpin had the hardest dirt ever and was uneven thats all it was

  • Good job. I like a horse that will move under me instead of locking up. That way they don't feel claustrophobic and 'blow up'.

How's the filly doing now days?

    FIVE STARS!

  • umm sadly im not sure on her location at this time, im trying to figure that out because i want to buy her, thanks for the comment

  • shes a horse, and no shes not haha

  • Good job staying on. She is a very pretty mover. Are you riding her in a bosal or a snaffle with a noseband? I can't tell from the fid. You might want to tigten it up so it rides higher on her face and does not squeeze her nostrils closed. All in all, great job.

  • snaffle with noseban., and the reason we didnt tigten up is cause she woulda stoped and first lesson for these guys is forward forward forward, even if they go crazy, thanks

  • wow daltyn i've watched this vid OVER and OVER again and NEVER noticed it was you! this is krystal btw

  • yes this is the little filly i want sooo bad

  • she looks like a good mover though when she was calmer

  • Awsome job! Im starting my 4year old mare this spring(rescued so Ive had to wait for her trust).

  • what a good pony! well not the first part but at the end that looked really good esspesially for her first ride

good job staying on there! :)

  • Looking good Daltyn!

  • good job!! i have riden a 2 y/o who was just broke and ill tell you i was scared evethough i knew someone had been on him before!

  • Good Girl, Im very jelous, you look so relaxed up there, she looked very humped up too. I just started riding my Red roan fily and I know Im better with the groung work then the ridding part..LOL...I guess I just need to trust her. I wish you could come and show me some tricks. great videO!!!

  • haha i tryed to look relaxed.. i get really tense and i know she can feel it..hahah.. well where do you live maybe i could come help!

  • nice riding, good choice with the helmet, at least some people on here wear them.

  • yeah that helmet has saved my life a few times:)

the only time i dont wear it is when im showing

  • well done. i too have seen many people hold a horse for first mounting. sometimes even lead it around. your horse lookd like he relaxed quickly. nicely done.

  • thank you very much

  • If someone has to hold your horse so you can mount it the horse is not ready.....

  • actually, ive seen many trainers have the horses held while being mounted, it how we have trained all of our horses, and now they stand perfectly still

  • Yeah, i think it is wise to have someone hold the horsefor the first few rides. def a good idea. great job by the way ;]

  • Not necessarily. It is a good practice to keep the horse from bolting and causing injury to himself. Plus, no matter how much groundwork you do, you cannot ever be really sure if they will bolt or just stand there.

  • wait who you talking to?

  • WOW!!!!!!i love how you stayed on being jerked this way and thah. Is She comming along or is she like sold or something??

  • haha thanks, yeah shes coming along ill be showing her in cutting next year, because of her fast feet and turns :P

  • well done - good save and did not panic. Bet you wanted to though! Really nice once you recovered. It's those moments we remember why we sit back.

  • yeah, hahah i was scared, thanks for the comment

  • VVV it depends on the individual horse. t can damage but done properly there should not be any damage. i love it how people assume all these wonderful things about each other :P lovely horse btw and well sat haha!

  • Rachel51893 why on earth are you going to break a 2year old? Why dont you look on the net at the damage breaking so young can cause and then you may reconsider........

  • it just says working with not breaking, your supposed to saddle and bridal and 2 and when there knees close is when you start getting on.

  • your supposed to get off right after you get on so the horse doesnt think that he stuck with a person on his back all the time. I learned it on a Pat Parelli show. Im training my colt this spring.

  • we did that in the barn the week before, first ride meaning asking her for her gaits and stops and turns

  • On that note, I have to disagree with Parelli. If he bolts when you start to get off (and they often will), you may not have a chance to get back on. It is better to wait until they are tired before you get off the first time.

  • are you having a convo with yourself? haha

  • nice job! any advice for preparation and then the first few rides of a filly? im working w/my aunt w/her Hanoverian 2 year old this year. and since i'm the young one i have to ride her! lol! any advice would help!

    Thanks,

    Rachel

  • Umm, well i dont no much about hanos but, we did ground work so much with her, and when her knees finally closed we started saddleing her evryday and would tie her in a barn stall with the saddle on, all day. then we moved to lungeing with it on, and now we are riding, and we knew she was gonna take off because she loves to run:) and it wasnt to bad, i had fun

  • okay thanks!

  • no prob:)

  • what a gorgeous trot! Great first ride!

  • haha thanks.i know i love her so much, i want to buy her so i can show off that trot!

  • Wow She Definately A Little Flighty! Lol.. You Could Tell The Way The Man Acted Around Her That She Was Spooky.. Good Recovery!

  • hahah ya. we kinda thought she was gonna be the most difficult to ride for the first time, just because she was the craziest to lunge..but i love her soo much, im trying to buy her but i need to make some money first:/

  • Nice job staying with her. She handled it pretty well though after that first bolt!

  • thanks. ya she did that same move 3 more times, each time i rode her but she finally decided that she couldnt get me off:)

  • Nice job staying on. :D

  • thanks:)
