The hypnotic part he talks about is true ...but i heard a better analogy ..its a snowball effect .. the longer you play a solid groove the more power and effect it accumulates , the same way a small snowball accumulates more snow rolling down a hill ...

Would you recommend burying the beater into the bass head for funk? Or hitting and letting it rebound?

@FaithIsAccidental I would recommend burying it into the head if you're play a real tight beat, an if you're a more linear type beat.. and if you are playing more layed back and just grooving with the band, then you might let it rebound to ad more fullness to the bass drum..
