  • My dad used to take me to the museum of Science and Industry when I was young.it's a fascinating place! I do remember the old o scale layout.Does anyone know if the trains on the new layout belong to the museum or do individuals bring their own stuff to run on the layout as a club?or is it both?

  • I love this layout of my Home town I'm from Chicago the Wrigleyville area.I wish I could build something like this for my layout.

  • Thumbs Up If You Where Still Watching This In 2011.....

  • I wonder how many budget cuts had to be done to pay for the layout and people to maintain it. That explains why the roads are still in such horrible shape. I don't live there but I'm a truck driver, I know. Nice layout though.

  • Wow!

    Fantastic effort... Nice video

Seems all trains were moving a bit too fast in scale

  • whats the name of the song?

  • I like the music. Why is everybody complaining about it? Was it changed?

  • Aside the REAL LIFE steam locomotive, where there any model ones?

  • I tried to go once, but since drive a motorcoach, there is no where to park. And the people at the Museum were rude and no help. Tried to talk to manager, and was informed in not uncertain terms bt the lady at information desk and security lady, that I could not speak to him about parking in rear. So I thank you for the video's since I probably will not get back to Chicago to see this exhibit.

  • like the music

  • cool plain

  • I liked the music but gave the video a thumbs down. Sorry.

  • Almost an HO scale model of Chicago....very artistic.

  • the aiplane just falls on the whole layout

  • makes me want to dig out my ole rail set and finish what i started when i was a kid. I would love to pass that down to my kids. It`s a great way to get them off those dam cell phones and comp`s myself included!

  • Love the BN sd70MAC leading the coal train

  • We have made a lot of changes to the MSI layout and continue to do so.

  • Awesome stuff. Love that layout.

  • looked like mr rogers neighborhood...

  • @djmarkcotter Yeah, and the music is kinda similar too.

  • One awesome layout, between the cityscape and everything else, very well set up..

  • I wish I could go back there and see it again. Even if you went there a thousand times and they didn't change a thing you still will find a ton of details you didn't see before. It truly overloads you eyes at the how beautiful the layout truly is and the amount of detail. I wish I had the $3.3 million they did to build a layout.

  • what engine is that at 0:34

  • @trainlover479 That steam locomotive is the famous Empire State Express 999 the first land vehicle to reach 100 mph. They also have the original Burlington Zephyr on exhibit

  • that is NYC #666

  • i love this layout i havent gone there in a while i forgot what it was like

  • I've seen this layout at the Science and Industry museum, you can look for hours. There is so much detail! I want to go there again sometime soon and video tape as much of it as possible and get some pictures. I have a train layout, it's only 8' X 16', it looks so small compared to this one.

  • wow thats amazing

  • Wow! I've been putting together layouts since I was a kid, and this one is by far, The most beautifulest layout ever. If you can find one that's better please e-mail me.

  • i have an exact replaca of rochelles railroad park in ho scale with all the heritage fleet global 3 and lots of intermodal coal engines of both the UP side and BNSF side and as well as mixed frieght

  • You know I was wondering, what do you tink us Modelers would do if really had this much layout to play on........ I know some have a nice layout, but this is nice, big are and long trains, sweet, just a thought, what do you reckon the cost of this layout is to build?

  • 3.5 Million big ones from conception to opening day.

  • i forgot to add that im a music major...

  • i dont know if i can finish this video with this music....

  • The team behind this project did a stellar job. No matter how many times you see the layout, it's like seeing it for the first time. Amazing talent! I'd be happy to have those broad, sweeping curves on my layout if nothing else--perfect for watching long streamliners! :-)

  • i want my layout to be like that

  • I like the Train layout at the museum. One of the reasons I like staying in Chicago!

  • Damn near fell alseep. I liked the layout. BNSF is my favorite railroad. So, that made the video more tolerable. Warning: Insert earplugs prior to watching. Do not operate heavy equipment while watching this video.

  • That reminds me, on this particular day I was up at 4 to catch the train to Chicago, and didn't get a nap, so by the afternoon I was really, painfully tired.

And I do need to replace the music, no doubt.

  • nice...a lot different from the layout I gazed at as a kid in 1948-49 :)

  • The video was great, but the music literally SUCKED! Why not use background music that is appropriate and beautiful, such as "My Kind of Town (Chicago)" by Frank Sinatra? That way we could enjoy the audio as well as the video.

  • Copyright. I had a really nice piece of music, but had to choose another to avoid copyright conflicts. You're right, it doesn't fit. And really, I don't recall picking this music. Youtube must have changed it for me. I'll look into it when I get a chance.

  • hell yea chikid19! a day of cubbies and trains in beautiful chicago... sounds like a perfect day to me

  • nice layout, the music sucks, though.

  • ridonculus

  • This is a nice layout.I hope to come back home to Chicago sometime and see it and take in a Cubs game.

  • That was pretty cool, sure wish you could of got more of that dc9 over head jetliner, nice sd70 bnsf locomotives!!! Thanks for sharing you video clip. 5 stars.

  • That is a 727-100 retired from United Airlines and was flown into Meigs, taken apart and shipped over to the museum.. Search for United Airlines 727 landing at Meigs field Chicago.. There is a video of it. Very cool to see a short field landing in a 727

  • sweet! 5/5!

  • SO ULTRA WONDERFUL!

A TRILLION STARS AS A PRIZE!

Lovely. Congratulations to the creators of that magnificent space in Chicago.

    Brazil.

  • That layout was sooooo amazing. My dad and I were in awe . when we saw it.

  • can u buy one of the cta trains

  • I have no idea -- I don't do HO trains. Sorry.

  • not from here

  • @58mosh58 There was a manufacturer who made HO scale CTA subway cars. Unfortunately that was years ago. The cars do pop up on ebay from time to time, so check there regularly. Keep the search broad by typing in: "HO subway cars" or "HO transit rail cars". One other option: Contact Mike at IHP at: (610) 352-0982. He produces N scale CTA cars and would consider doing them in HO if there was enough of a demand.

  • @ACLTony I believe that it was Walthers who might have done them. They also did BART Cars as well for out here in California.

  • woow big layout the good video ( moodel railroad ) 5*
