I gotta say my dad jus got a 91 miata n i couldnt help but tell him it was a girls car. But after driving it i liked it more forrsure. Buuut still a chick car lol. He calls it a sports car? idk but i dont agree with that at all. Hondas are sports cars if the miata is lol.

miatas have superior handling that is why people put bigger engines in them because they can handle very well. The car is also so light which means it goes alot faster when you put a powerful engine.

The LS1 motor weighs right around what the Miata's stock iron 4 banger weighs.

After putting the motor in the car the weight ratio still stays at 50/50.

Personally, I don't know what you can call gay about them. I mean a Miata is nothing by a classic 60's Lotus Elans married to Japanese engineering and refinement. It is a very rewarding car, if you actually drive one...

@CodyAlanB5 I have to admit I really hated the way my miata looked. It was very feminine and the stigma that came with it was evident everywhere I drove it. That being said...it was really hard to hate the car itself.  Driving it felt like I was flying my own little rocket ship, to say nothing for reliability. I tried really, really hard to kill that car, but it just kept chuggin'. Still running today.

@Grummur if you drop it on coilovers, add some tasteful aftermarket rims and a roll cage, it makes a BIG difference...it doesn't make look at all "ricey"

i love reading all the comments from people that hate the miata. I think they just don't like the fact that a little car can beat their GO BIG OR GO HOME cars. miatas are one of the best driving machines out there. guys that don't respect the miata just aren't confident about themselves. i'd hate to live my life worrying about that.

Performance-wise, the V8 Miatas are amazing. But as you can see, people still believe that Miata is gay.

So if you're racing, its a brilliant idea. In fact the stock Miata has a pretty good handling so it should do good in the cornering department as well. If you're not gonna race with it, then not much of a good idea. You only get the disadvantages of a V8 (gas mileage and insurance rates) while your car looks like a Sissie, with no space.

But in the end, it's still epic. cause its a V8.

First off if you look at the title it says stock LS1 not one that has been modded out. A stock LS1 in a Camaro or Corvette gets around 27 MPG on the highway and I can imagine that with it being in a car that weighs 1000 lbs less its even higher then that. Secondly why would your insurance rates go up? I have an 87 Grand prix that came stock with a V6 and it now has a LS1 and I pay the same rate. You dont have to tell the insurance company that you replaced the motor. Just thought I'd say.

Yeah in my Grand prix with the LS1 I get around 25 but its a very heavy car. The newer fuel injected V8 motors get decent fuel mileage. Not like the older carborated models that got in the teens at best. Still even though that Miata has an LS1 its still a Miata. A very badass Miata but not my cuppa tea.

Correction. Pontiac Grand Prix's were rear wheel drive until 1987 and in 1988 went to front wheel drive. Mine is an 87 T-top Grand Prix. It was already rear wheel drive all I did was put in a stock LS1 and 4L60E tranny and a better rear end for posi-traction and poof its a new car.  There was a little more to it then that like having to run a new wiring harness from painless wiring and having to mount the ECU under the dash but it wasnt too bad.

I drove it, and enjoyed the hell out of it. That's coming from a person who knows nothing BUT handling/speed because I've been driving Datsuns all my life.

I'm just saying that's not embarassing at all. There is ALWAYS someone quicker, or someone who will be quicker, out there. IF the driver was embarassed, or people think it's embarassing, then that just shows their lack of knowledge of what's out there, and what achieveable.
