to the guy below; speed with anything just takes practice...but speed for the sake of speed is just not musical. And besides you have just so much time between beats to fit in those super fast runs. If your guitar runs run over the drummer or your notes dont land on the beat with the bass player then where is the skill? where is the music???? There are about 5 million guitar players who can play fast and shitty....so why be that?
it's so weird when he says "its hard to play slow"..it boggles the mind that he couldn't do all his stuff slow...he's just on another level I guess...I can't play ANYTHING fast if I can't play it slow first.....you have to accept as a guitarist that you just can't play everything...you can play what you can...you can push yourself....but....know your limits!!...danny's a great teacher!!..tho you get the feeling he hasn't had to do too much of that..:)
@synesthesia67 .....the reason that a player might say that "it's hard to play it slow"....is because many riffs are based on touch. Fast notes are too much for most humans to perceive. As such, MANY fast licks are actually discovered (stumbled upon) at a certain speed....and they do not feel the same at a slower speed. And since the lick was discovered at a high speed.....mechanically remember and mentally labeled as a specific..."feeling"....it can be difficult to recall any other way.
88 Elmira St is such a great artistic statement . A bit notey at times but damn, he was so well rounded and ...musical. DG was beyond the "shred" mentality . The sax player is also quite sick....check it out onhere....the beer bottle slide thing is just ridiculous.
Danny was the best. there is another tele player that is unknown that is good as well he was one of Dannys Favorite players his name is Demetri Callas of Frederick MD.
I am shocked that I had never heard of this guitarist. He was brilliant; and a superb teacher to boot! Why are great talents like this man not promoted over the talentless drones that pollute the airwaves day in day out?
cool to see such a genius of guitar speak on this humble detail of picking. all the people on yt who defend their "best" player(SRV EVH,Yngwie), Danny was as close to "best" as it gets,of the American players of the 20th century. who would you rather cut heads against?
I can do the chromatic scale fast alright but I'm having difficulties getting all the notes to ring out clearly. Maybe I'm not doing it right or I need the right pick to do it or I would think that it just takes time to master it. So just practice it a million times and then you'll get it. Great video RIP Danny.
what is so impressive is that he had this talent, and was willing to share with others how to create these sounds...take the time to record the "slow" version of everything..very cool
he is simply danny gatton, there was nothing he could not do, he was light years ahead of just about everybody! he is greatly missed by this huge fan... from no2 gatton fanatic.
PROBABLY buy it??? I'd buy multiple copies. For somebody to be able to PLAY AND TEACH like that .....!!! Wheeeew... This is GREAT! Danny was the KING!!! Keep the videos coming. It will keep his legacy alive.
