I'm really glad to see that everyone agrees that D.W. needs to be punished WAY more. Yes hitting her was wrong and Arthur needed to be punished, but D.W. got off scot free when she was being a little brat in the first place. To be honest, I would have punched her too. She doesn't care about anyone but herself, and at 5 years old children start to learn empathy for other people.
Lolz! "I would like to fight someone my own size. You stay here, I'll go find someone."
But really, the gazillion comments about D.W. deserved it and she should've been punished and all that... Helluuu! Arthur's parents said they were gonna deal with her, "but what [Arthur] did was wrong TOO." They see his side and if they're anything like my parents(and it seems like it) D.W. was probably punished a little harder. I once decked my big brother for taking my jade eagle. 1 week for me, 2 for him
All right. I have had it with this episode! I absolutely hate how everyone was telling Arthur "you hit DW, that makes you Chernabog (try to watch Disney's "Fantasia" to know what I'm talking about). And I absolutely HATE shows that tell you that you have to be more tolerant of little kids, because EVERYONE has their breaking point. And I also hate how society seems to actually LIKE to blame only the one retaliates! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHH!! XO
Okay, let's face it. We wouldn't be having these types of episodes if things were more fair in life, and BOTH people got punished. I just abosulty REFUSE to see any justifitcation in no one even TRYING to understand Arthur's point of view (and that dosen't just apply to THIS episode, it applies to the lot of them where Arthur "can't get away with nuthin'), yet at the same time, I DO sympathize with DW, as I would HATE getting hit. But SOMEBODY (glares at my so-called friend) tried to...
@ThomasNCookieMonster I see Arthur's side. He shouldn't have hit DW, but she is a brat and she specifically did what he told her not to do. The episode emphasized not hitting and try verbalizing by really playing down to the viewers just how bratty DW was. It could have just as easily been an episode of respect the property of others or respect the wishes of others using DW.
@willisnomiko I'm glad you agree with me. And I'm going to be honest: my friend wasn't REALLY trying to change my opinion. But it felt like he was, because he WAS more-or-less trying to justify my problem with this episode, and others like it.
@ABroadwaystar2534 His parents AND pretty much everybody else. Even so, I still don't think it was right of Arthur to hit her. All the same, though, I feel that the REAL reason that Arthur hit DW is BECAUSE of everyone else taking her side whenevr he had a problem with her, and DW breaking the plane AND blaming it on him was pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back. Still not saying that hitting is right, I'm just considering the context of the situation.
@ThomasNCookieMonster you're right, Arthur's parents expect more of him because he is older. and when DW makes excuses for her behavior that gets him in trouble, he receives the consequence that DW should get also. i.e, when his parents said no TV for a week for Arthur, they should have done the same for DW. that being said, i'm following a feeling that i have, is that the parents tend to favor DW because she is younger and still doesn't know what's right from wrong, like Arthur.
@ABroadwaystar2534 On the contrary, DW DOES know right from wrong, sometimes. I feel that part of the reason she does what she does is because she knows Arthur will be the only one in trouble if he reacts in any way, which is why I feel that when she blamed Arthur for the plane breaking, she was actually trying to get him to react negatively (though not necessarily to hit her).
You know, I feel that while DW may have genuinely thought the plane would fly, that she also talked down to Arthur was very much a means to egg him on into reacting negatively (though not necessarily hitting her, it seems to me she didn't actually expect to get hit). You notice how many times that DW got away with antagonizing her brother, while Arthur always got punished/blamed for anything he did in reaction? I'm not trying to say "Hey, it was in reaction, so it's okay". It's just... you know.
@Metal18Dude Yeah, me too, especially when I asked WHY no one would see my side only for someone to flat out tell me that it's "because (I'm) wrong". Seriously, that just further emphasized that EVERYONE was clearly telling Arthur that his arguements were invalid since he hit DW. Frankly, I feel that no matter what, what provoked the hitting IS very much relevant to the situation.
I agree that what Arthut did was wrong and his parents were right to punish him but they should've punished DW too because what she did was wrong too.
I used to put my stuff on top of the entertainment center and/or bookshelves so they'd be out of my sister's reach and I could avoid the kind of situation that Arthur was in in this episode. Like D.W., my sister was (and still is) a little brat.
@ssm85ytp Thanks, although I didn't really think you were excusing Francine.
Also, there are times when I DO sympatize with DW, such as the episode that (ironically) aired with this one: "DW's Library Card". First, when DW wanted Hopalong the Frog, but it was taken out, and she later found out that the Tibble twins were the ones who had the book (I can tell they took it out, DELIBERATELY, so that she couldn't). Then, when they said that if you hurt a library book, they take your card, forever.
Oh and the whole thing with DW playing the, "I'm just a child" card, BULLS**T! I won't accept that at all. DW was warned again and again, so that card won't hold up. So all in all, here's the lesson kids, if your younger sibling breaks something of yours and you hit them for doing that, your family will hate you and punish you harshly, your friends will turn on you instantly and say your wrong, and your younger sibling will get off scott free. What the f**k were they thinking with this episode?
@coruscant100 They were obviously trying to teach us that life isn't always fair. But to be quite honest, that's exactly what I hate about this episode, as what you've just stated is part of the problem with life. Society is almost ALWAYS placing the blame on the one who struck back, even if the offender's action was done IN PLAIN SIGHT! And speaking of which, I'm not too surprised that Francine, for one thing, got on Arthur's case, as she seems to get a similar treatment to DW.
@ThomasNCookieMonster I can understand the lesson of life not being fair, but that's really no excuse still. Everyone went nuts at the drop of a hat, DW was not punished even though she was told again and again to not touch the airplane, Arthur's friends were not right to attack him since most of them have no siblings to deal with, and it was just a waste.
@coruscant100 Well, Francine has a sibling: a sister named Catherine. But that probably doesn't count as Catherine is her OLDER sister. Still, though, I agree that the lesson of life not being fair is no excuse. As I've said before, that's what I hated about this episode, and pretty much ANY episode where the victim got blamed for the situation, just 'cause they reacted badly. Another example is "Draw", where everyone drew pictures of Francine only to learn that she has feelings.
@ThomasNCookieMonster I think that's why Francine probably upset at Arthur because she looking from a liittle sister POV, so she knows how DW felt. Maybe Francine broke some of Catherine stuff too and Catherine probably had hitten Francine too, or at least that my theory of it.
@ssm85ytp Hmm, good theory. It would make sense. Still, though, pretty much everyone got on Arthur's case about it, and none of them cared about how he felt, which was emphasized when Muffy flat out told Arthur "because you're wrong". I would think SOMEONE would say "Look, Arthur, I know you're mad, but..." instead of EVERYONE one basically implying "He hit DW. Therefore his arguements are invalid." What really set people off was that the episode was set up to imply respect for others' property,
(Cont.) but they apparently favored it being Arthur's reason for hitting his sister, instead. It really is a shame. While I fully understand that Arthur should NOT have hit his sister, that DW "doesn't know better" is no excuse for her behavior.
And I should know what I'm talking about. I'VE got hit by MY older brother, too. Ironically, though, this helped me to see ARTHUR'S side, more, as my brother was trying to punish me, to quote a friend, "for what happened to me as well as what I did".
Oh and where do Arthur's friends get off for telling Arthur that what he did was wrong? I know hitting a sibling is wrong, but most of Arthur's friends don't have siblings, so where do they get off for lecturing Arthur? None of them know what it's like to have a sibling at all, and have really no right to act this way to him at all. Besides Arthur lost his temper and was really upset, so his action was somewhat justified.
I know that DW was just a little girl, but I don't accept how everyone turned on Arthur with the drop of a hat. He warned DW many times to not touch his plane, but she does anyway and breaks it. Arthur's parents went WAY too far with the punishment thing, siblings fight all the time and scolding him and grounding him for a full week is very harsh, and the fact that the parents don't punish DW in anyway, shape, or form is awful. Like is that even fair!?!? DW always seems to get off easy a lot.
How come Arthur has to get his arm bandaged after a little tap on the arm. The worst it would have done was bruise him, sheesh what a wimp....
And why is DW shown as a victim? It's not exactly uncommon for sibling to beat each other up when they are young. I certainly was hit a lot by my older brother when I was little and I hit and bit him a lot as well and guess what neither of us had to have ice packs put on our bruises.
That doesn't make much sense. D.W. is only four but she treats Arthur like Hell. She's like the Cartman of this show and Arthur's the Kyle. What really pissed me off was that NO ONE thought D.W. had it coming. Here's my alternate title: "Arthur FINALLY Kicks D.W.'s Ass And Then Gets In Trouble For Being Abused By Her For Years." If I was Arthur, I would've RKO'ed D.W. and punted her in the skull while Randy Orton's music plays.
And D.W. is NEVER punished for breaking Arthur's plane. Arthur may have been wrong for hitting her, but she still should have had a stern talking to about not toying around with things that you were warned not to toy around with.
@Zinlol I know and the parents lied to Arthur. They said, "We'll deal with what she did." No, you didn't, you liars! You went way too far with punishing Arthur and D.W. got no talking to or anything! WTF?
Actually...I will say both were wrong. Arthur for not going to his parents first, and having them deal with it. Also D.W. for touching his model repeated after so many warnings.
@guapman11 Well, here's the thing. This show is actually quite true to real life. So of course we would take things seriously. Personally, I hate this episode, BECAUSE it teaches that life isn't always fair. But if one thinks about, "life isn't fair" is little more than a self-fulfilling prophecy. Basically, we accept that it isn't fair (even though most of us probably don't want to), and as a result, subsconciously adjust to it by acting unkind.
My house must be hell if they think this is horrible. My brother, sister and I punch each other whenever the other is being stupid. It strengthened us up, plus its fun to fight with each other to the death. A little jab in the arm should strengthen that girl up, its fun in the house when we wack each other with wiffle ball bats.
I think Arthur is wrong in the respect that he hit her but his parents and friends should have been more understanding. People lose their tempers and do things they regret all the time.
The problem is that DW doesn't appear to get punished for her actions and uses the excuse that she's a little kid so therefore blameless. Fact is they both deserved to be punished for actions. Heck I'm surprised DW didn't egg Arthur on more to hit her again so he'd get punished even worse than before.
Arthur was wrong to hit his sister, BUT I agree with the 'sorry' being a 'get-out-of-jail-free-card'. DW's a spoiled little brat and gets away with too much.
wow is a spoiled girl so its half her fault but then again its arthur's faults too coz he punched his sister and it's arthur's friends fault too coz they wont understand arthur...but then again its my fault too coz this is just a cartoon
Shocking. It was aimed at kids but it managed to undermine the value of an apology. She didn't appreciate the impact of what she did, she gave a number of empty excuses and didn't even seem mildly repentant or ashamed. Classic case of children thinking "sorry" is a get-out-of-jail-free word.
I don't care if they're 4, 2 or 30, when they can't acknowledge the consequences of their actions, they'll do it again.
@WickedKnightAlbel I know. At least Arthur was honest when HE apologized. DW wasn't very honest at all. I also feel, speaking from my OWN experience, that the reason Arthur didn't apologize in the first place was parlty because his mother ORDERED him to apologize ON THE SPOT, while he was still at the height of his anger! I know that would make ME feel uncomfortable. What do YOU think?
I think everyone (except the parents) didn't understand how angry Arthur got. I mean, only Arthur and his parents knew how much the plane meant to him. SO, I see why everyone was on my side.
It's like, "I hit my sister. She ripped my book!" I would be mad at them for hitting their sister. But the book might have been their favorite book or something special to them. Then it would make sense why they got so worked up.
Ack! Arthur doesn't say it, but I'm pretty sure he wishes DW was never born. >:[
I say that simply because her sole purpose in life is to make Arthur's life miserable. I mean, she always badgers him, she always messes with his stuff, she always has their parents and his friends on HER SIDE, and he doesn't want her around! She is more obnoxious and bratty than my youngest brother. And he's only seven!
I swear, I wish there was an episode where DW got in so much trouble, it got her grounded!!!
@x7Luke7x No, she was only sent to her room for ten minutes in that episode. The reason for that was because she was being rude to Kate. Do you think that sounds fair? She get in trouble for being a brat to Kate, but not for being rude to anybody else.
Speaking of running away, I wouldn't be too surprised if Arthur decided on doing that in a future episode, considering how he's walked all over and no one sides with him.
@darthvalor07 Are you kidding, i'm sure he would never think that, despite all the trouble she sometimes gets him in , they are brother and sister and there are episodes (D.W.'s Time Trouble) where Arthur is glad he is her older brother. It's just a cartoon, no need to be so serious.
DW is the one in the wrong here. She already ruined Arthur's model once before the paint was dry, and after he told her not to touch it, she broke it, and barely got punished.
For all those saying "D.W. Deserved it!" In my heart of hearts I agree, but she's still FIVE FREAKING YEARS OLD. And do you really think a kids show is going to support hitting a five year old girl (regardless of how annoying she is)?
@ImJustSayin2014 I DONT CARE IF SHES 5 DAYS OLD SHE STILL BROKE IT AND SHE DESERVED IT AND ALL YOU SAYING SHE DOESNT KNOW ANY BETTERSHE COULD OF AT LEAST NOT THROW IT OUT OF THE WINDOW
@pooopooo95 They're not going to allow the moral of the story to be "Hitting a little girl is OK". On a practical note yeah, a million brothers have hit their sisters and a lot worse, but a kids show isn't going to condone that no matter how "deserved" it was.
I love Arthur, but this episode really gets under my skin! D.W absolutely deserved that hit, Arthur did absolutely NOTHING wrong to Binky! What on earth is this episode trying to say? That if someone breaks your property you should just forget about it? Uh no, that's not how the world works. You break someone's things, you get a consequence.
@gr1m4ce That would be a good message if Arthur's mom or dad DID SOMETHING to D.W. It's pretty obvious that D.W would have gotten away with what she did. If the shows message is that violence isn't the answer, then they need to tell you what the answer is in replacement. The show fails miserably at that. also, if that was the show's message, then the plot involving Binky is completely pointless.
@SitOnPickle Binky just got peer pressured. And that was meant for Arthur to know what it's like to get hit, although I saw no real point in it since DW was in the wrong.
11:02 wot do u mean u didn't know tht d.w. u spoiled cunt? you have a dollhouse, it has all the furniture inside but can you live in it? NO! CAUSE IT'S ONLY A MODEL! Has no ELECTRICITY, no WATER, no HEAT!!!! And with the model plane, it doesn't fly because it's not made of ALUMINIUM, STEEL and TITANIUM but PLASTIC, doesn't have TURBINE ENGINES to enable to fly, nor does it have built in ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS! And why? BECAUSE IT'S A MODEL!!!!!!!!!
Wow. If I was Arthur, I would have done the same. DW should have realized how angry her brother was, let alone mess with her brother's personal, valuable property, let alone throw it out a window.
DELETE THIS VIDEO I DONT WANT IT IN YOUTUBE IT SUCKS I LOVED ARTHUR BUT NOT THIS ONE THAT ONE GUY WHO DISLIKED IS ME DELETE THAT DUMBASS VIDEO OR ILL REPORT YOUTUBE THAT YOURE NOT FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS

@ThomasNCookieMonster I think that's why Francine probably upset at Arthur because she looking from a liittle sister POV, so she knows how DW felt. Maybe Francine broke some of Catherine stuff too and Catherine probably had hitten Francine too, or at least that my theory of it.
ssm85ytp 3 months ago
@ssm85ytp Hmm, good theory. It would make sense. Still, though, pretty much everyone got on Arthur's case about it, and none of them cared about how he felt, which was emphasized when Muffy flat out told Arthur "because you're wrong". I would think SOMEONE would say "Look, Arthur, I know you're mad, but..." instead of EVERYONE one basically implying "He hit DW. Therefore his arguements are invalid." What really set people off was that the episode was set up to imply respect for others' property,
ThomasNCookieMonster 3 months ago
(Cont.) but they apparently favored it being Arthur's reason for hitting his sister, instead. It really is a shame. While I fully understand that Arthur should NOT have hit his sister, that DW "doesn't know better" is no excuse for her behavior.
And I should know what I'm talking about. I'VE got hit by MY older brother, too. Ironically, though, this helped me to see ARTHUR'S side, more, as my brother was trying to punish me, to quote a friend, "for what happened to me as well as what I did".
ThomasNCookieMonster 3 months ago
Oh and where do Arthur's friends get off for telling Arthur that what he did was wrong? I know hitting a sibling is wrong, but most of Arthur's friends don't have siblings, so where do they get off for lecturing Arthur? None of them know what it's like to have a sibling at all, and have really no right to act this way to him at all. Besides Arthur lost his temper and was really upset, so his action was somewhat justified.
coruscant100 3 months ago 3
I know that DW was just a little girl, but I don't accept how everyone turned on Arthur with the drop of a hat. He warned DW many times to not touch his plane, but she does anyway and breaks it. Arthur's parents went WAY too far with the punishment thing, siblings fight all the time and scolding him and grounding him for a full week is very harsh, and the fact that the parents don't punish DW in anyway, shape, or form is awful. Like is that even fair!?!? DW always seems to get off easy a lot.
coruscant100 3 months ago 3

Zinlol 3 months ago 2
@Zinlol I know and the parents lied to Arthur. They said, "We'll deal with what she did." No, you didn't, you liars! You went way too far with punishing Arthur and D.W. got no talking to or anything! WTF?

guapman11 4 months ago
@guapman11 Well, here's the thing. This show is actually quite true to real life. So of course we would take things seriously. Personally, I hate this episode, BECAUSE it teaches that life isn't always fair. But if one thinks about, "life isn't fair" is little more than a self-fulfilling prophecy. Basically, we accept that it isn't fair (even though most of us probably don't want to), and as a result, subsconciously adjust to it by acting unkind.
ThomasNCookieMonster 4 months ago
My house must be hell if they think this is horrible. My brother, sister and I punch each other whenever the other is being stupid. It strengthened us up, plus its fun to fight with each other to the death. A little jab in the arm should strengthen that girl up, its fun in the house when we wack each other with wiffle ball bats.
chrisoyola 4 months ago
I think Arthur is wrong in the respect that he hit her but his parents and friends should have been more understanding. People lose their tempers and do things they regret all the time.
The problem is that DW doesn't appear to get punished for her actions and uses the excuse that she's a little kid so therefore blameless. Fact is they both deserved to be punished for actions. Heck I'm surprised DW didn't egg Arthur on more to hit her again so he'd get punished even worse than before.

irkenus 6 months ago
WickedKnightAlbel 6 months ago
@WickedKnightAlbel I know. At least Arthur was honest when HE apologized. DW wasn't very honest at all. I also feel, speaking from my OWN experience, that the reason Arthur didn't apologize in the first place was parlty because his mother ORDERED him to apologize ON THE SPOT, while he was still at the height of his anger! I know that would make ME feel uncomfortable. What do YOU think?
ThomasNCookieMonster 6 months ago

I swear, I wish there was an episode where DW got in so much trouble, it got her grounded!!!
darthvalor07 6 months ago 15
@darthvalor07 She did in one episode. She was considering running away
x7Luke7x 4 months ago
@x7Luke7x No, she was only sent to her room for ten minutes in that episode. The reason for that was because she was being rude to Kate. Do you think that sounds fair? She get in trouble for being a brat to Kate, but not for being rude to anybody else.
Speaking of running away, I wouldn't be too surprised if Arthur decided on doing that in a future episode, considering how he's walked all over and no one sides with him.
darthvalor07 4 months ago
@darthvalor07 Sort of true, but he's "average" (as called by the Brain in Nicked by a Name lol).

AESOPS FOR THE "ARTHUR'S BIG HIT" EPISODE:
1) If you break your older sibling's stuff, you'll get away scott-free with it because people will think you don't know any better.
2) If somebody breaks your stuff, then just get used to it because there's nothing you can do about it.
AND 3) It's okay to hit somebody if they've already hit somebody else before.

For all those saying "D.W. Deserved it!" In my heart of hearts I agree, but she's still FIVE FREAKING YEARS OLD. And do you really think a kids show is going to support hitting a five year old girl (regardless of how annoying she is)?

@ImJustSayin2014 allow what and they already alllowed arthur to hit dw
pooopooo95 6 months ago

SitOnPickle 7 months ago 25
@SitOnPickle uhhhh the episode is saying violence isnt the answer.
gr1m4ce 7 months ago
@gr1m4ce That would be a good message if Arthur's mom or dad DID SOMETHING to D.W. It's pretty obvious that D.W would have gotten away with what she did. If the shows message is that violence isn't the answer, then they need to tell you what the answer is in replacement. The show fails miserably at that. also, if that was the show's message, then the plot involving Binky is completely pointless.
SitOnPickle 7 months ago 7
@gr1m4ce no it's not the episode is saying "If you get hit and hit someone prior you deserve it"
