  • Amazing!

  • I initially heard Quincy Jones' version years ago, but never knew about this. Wow, mind blowing..

  • I just stumbled across a version of this by Pieces Of A Dream on their Imagine This LP, final track, side 2. I doesn't touch the original IMO to the OG! I just love re-discovering music & it's innate ability to re-connect you over space(oceans in my case) & time! I was really getting into George Duke at this point-in-time also as well as discovering Charles Earland & Flora Purim amoung other amazing contemporaries. My belief & passion for music was at an all time high then! Not so much now :-(

  • This song is sex

  • I know its not right to put people down... But I can say for sure that there are at least (3) people out there that Suck!!!!! Something is wrong with you (3), I think some people just hit that dislike button because its there.

  • whoa....Herbie does NOT dissappoint. (how do you dislike this?)

  • Perfect

  • Sweet tune, Goodnite now!

  • This music is a reason why it's a joy to be alive.

  • Herbie is jammin'!!

  • Sheer brilliance!!

  • Truly a modern jazz classic. Foreshadows rock fusion with its different sections in different styles and times. Love the way he harmonizes the melody differently the second time through the melody and then goes to the bridge. Wow!

  • A classic! Reminds me of the old WJZZ days here in Detroit.

  • Quality

  • Herbie is in the Chicagoland area this October, He's playing in Napervile, Illinois. I'm there!

  • Eargasm,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • nothing but love...........good shit

  • anybody have the track session credits..... musicians on the cut

  • Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones >>>>>

  • There was lots of good stuff in 1969. Reminds me of Ironside stuff and all the great music in that series. You can't beat a Rhodes from the 60's. Such a lovely piece.

  • so very beautiful.

  • someone accidently pushed the dislike button

  • @metagdp i agree that had to be a BIG Mistake! ; )

  • As good as it gets

  • Sounds almost like a recording that could be produced by Creed Taylor.

  • Even if this sounds like somewhat miles davis - miles went different styles that time (and I dont like it...)

    This song is a masterpiece!

  • where is the wine and cheese!! So grown up!! Damn!! Love it

  • This song is sooo incredible, I can't even write a comment worthy enough to articulate its awesomeness

  • @ShonTolliverMusic yea man I started singing the lyrics to it

  • I'm gonna say it AGAIN.... My friends this is the FUNKIEST PERSON ON EARTH!

  • firenyce, you're my kinda guy!!!

  • America needs to name a state after Herbie. it's hard to believe music can be this good.

  • Fantastic! Love your music, Herbie! Greetings from Brazil!

  • randomlightningman........ so i guess the clip of him performing in Warsaw in November(i.e. less than 2 months ago) was his twin brother??? lololol...........u can always count on ignorant people to say ignorant ish!!! = )

  • @themplskid Well as it turns out, there is one Jack off out there that seems to "dislike" this tune. How ANYONE could dislike such a smooth, mellow tune such as this one is beyond me. Herbie is my man, a hundred grand.

  • True Story: This song - maybe the greatest of Herbie - was the first song my sons Carlo and Bela heard in their live !... I catched them up with my wife at hospital imeadiatly after they were born and pressed the tape into the player starting the song ;)

Thanks Herbie for this only song of my all time high five - and thanks for uploading it !

  • Essa música é linda. Um Clássico!!

  • Ahh the ageless Herbie Hancock! Back in the '70's my big sis and Mr. Hancock's music, (this and Maiden Voyage) helped foster my interest and love for jazz, a love that still exists, and grows more everyday! Thanks Mac, thanks Herbie Hancock!

  • I heard this when I was 14 its beautiful, the whole album is great. Thanks for posting .

  • Will someone out there please do me a huge favor? Please upload the tune "You'll know when you get there" by Herbie Hancock. I believe that this is a 60s recording and one of my all time favorites. Thank you.

  • My dad put us kids to bed with Mangione's " Maui Waui " . I've carried on that tradition with my children , but I wanted to make my own impression on their memories . This beautiful Hancock masterpiece is what I chose for them .

  • Quincy Jones did the remake of this tune on his 1978 album/CD

"Sounds and Stuff Like That". I believe that Herbie is featured

on the remake. And Quincy does the tune very nicely.

  • @willardlockejr Pieces Of A Dream also done a fine cover of this on there "Imagine This" CD. I think that was the name of the CD. It was the one with "Fo-Fi-Fo" on it.

  • @willardlockejr yes he certainly does!!!!

  • Love the version of this he did with Kimiko Kasai.

  • Herbie is alive & well and just turned 70 !!!

  • ha rest in peace... the guy is still alive! hahahahahaha

  • he is not dead idiot...

  • Herbie Hancock still alive.

  • Matter of Fact he'll be playing less than 5 miles from here in June!!!

  • Happy 70th birthday, Herbie!! (yesterday)

This is just about my favourite composition by him. I play it regularly in my band.

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs. My Dad gave me the Fat Albert Rotunda album when I was about 13. This recording hits everything just right.

  • @chrisNova777 no listen....he not dead now, but oh boy, he's gunna be...cause Im just gunna flat out kill em....yup....

  • Herbie Hancock?

  • No he is not dead!!

  • I don't think he is dead. Is he?

  • Yeah, he just died a few weeks ago:(

  • @randomlightningman so wrong, he's not dead

  • @SamPellegrino1 Well I'm just gunna go kill him and prove you wrong!

  • @randomlightningman Nope, he's very much alive and just celebrated a birthday

  • Where did you hear about him dieing? Cause I'm pretty sure he is healthy

  • Its on wikipedia for sure

  • @randomlightningman because wikipedia is always right 100% of the time

I'd vouch on his career being dead, though. His music lives, but his performances are definitely dead nowadays.

  • @randomlightningman Wikipedia says he's alive.

  • @maddielu nope, he's dead....all them cats is dead.....

  • @randomlightningman Herbie is very much alive

  • @randomlightningman He's not dead

  • THIS kind of jazz came and went and hasnt been back since,,,,bravo, Herbie!!!!!

  • simply gorgeous... perfect @ 12:20am...

  • This is just a gorgeous chord progression. Back in the day when the writing was perfect, but the playing didn't have to be.

One of my favorite Herbie compositions.

  • wow! great ! thanks so much for posting!!!!!!

  • Ahhhhhhhhhh! Brings back some beautiful memories!

  • the drum work is amazing

  • that's the great albert 'tootie' heath

  • @joshuasound hes talented

  • Thank you for posting this, i love this song so much !

  • I heard this song on my Detroit jazz station WJZZ in the early 80s. I couldn't find the album anywhere (this was before the internet!). I moved to California. By pure chance I found "Fat Albert Rotuda" at a used record store in Santa Clara. This song made me feel at home again (I was homesick). This is my all time favorite song.

  • @Thorazine1112 Boy did you just bring back some good memories! Cliff Coleman, Calvin Useries, Dorian Pastor, Simone Colman, Tony Weaver, Mike Jason, Rosetta Hines...There was no better radio station in Detroit at that time. All gone now. Area radio sucks these days.

  • I not from detroit but saginaw and we had excellent jazz in the 70"s.But i feel you cause I moved to oakland in 82. The bayarea has excellent jazz venues and stations. The greek theatre jazz fest. Left there in 95 relocated to boston til 2004 then to macon ga. outside atlanta. saw herbie at the jazz fest piedmont park Atl.

  • @donahue478 u forgot philly and new york where it cultitvated

  • @Thorazine1112

It does bring back memories about all the jazz WJZZ brought to many of us. ...... RIP WJZZ. I turned it on as usual and some RIP HOP was playing on 105.9. It felt like close family had died. Now, it's really embarassing that Deeetroit doesn't even have a Smooth Jazz station with the recent demise of 98.7. So you would really be homesick, even at home.

  • @TakeStockDetroit Milwaukee lost two Jazz stations in one year. The first went off the wall variety and the second to indie music...and then to country. I guess there aren't enough people who appreciate the quality of fine jazz music.. now.it's all that lame hip hop and rap junk. Hip Hop is for kangaroos and rap is "CRAP without the "C"

  • @Thorazine1112 I agree. My favorite from this album and Herbie Hancock. Quincy Jones' version of this song is nice, too.

  • @Thorazine1112 oh how i miss that station

  • Tried posting this and got a big warning about copyright infringements...woooa I won't do that again...don't want my account disabled...glad I found it on your channel...favored...please accept my video request....Thank You Jazzylinn!

  • Agee with anthony. I love this track.
