The amount that they can do in a situation is incredible. they will also report your crash location so that you dont have to worry.. imagine your phone was out of battery and you were run off the road, and down a revine, broke your leg and stuck in the vehicle knocked unconscious...and no one noticed. Onstar would have help to you asap ,versus' by luck you were found.

I wonder why OnStar didn't use the GPS to find the car in this situation. They could have found it sooner. Also, why not over ride the gas so the car comes to a stop? Those are technologies they have and use in car thefts but in this case it would have also been helpful.

@ZerpaLuis I don't think they had the gas override system in place back then, as for the GPS that's what they used, remember she said they updated the location and confirmed to the 911 operator that her guess was correct.

Plus my mom had the same problem before at her age. But I called my dada and then he got my mom help.

@helema23 oh thats nice, i have 5 in my family, both my grandfathers one type 1... the other type 2... my mom (in the early stages of type 1) my great aunt (early stage type 1) and a cousin (type 1) all have told me that they do not have a sweet smell or fermented smell on there breath when they're sugar drops and my other cousin a phd in medicine has confirmed that while it does happen to some diabetics you can not judge if a diabetic person has low blood sugar just on they're breath.

Onstar helped us while traevling find a 24 hour emergency vet. Our Golden Retriever Gracie got very sick and we had no clue where we were. Onstar found a er for us and routed us there. Gracie had chewed up a razor blade she found under our desk. I am thankful we have onstar. For those that say onstar is stupid. After hearing this tell me how a cell phone would have done the same thing? It couldnt! You can have gps on your cell but it wont get police to help you and tell them exactlly where u r!

OnStar is available on any GM vehicle made after 1998 i believe for a monthly fee. Ford is trying to rival OnStar but Ford's system relies on your phone being bluetooth enabled and having it synced up with your car, whereas the OnStar system is built into the car with gps tracking. With Ford's system all it does is dial 911 but what if you have the phone in a staorage pocket in the car and it gets thrown around and the battery falls out. As far as im concerned OnStar is the leader in car safety

@Get908 ... Onstar now only works on vehi9cles 2004 and newer and if your car has it and is older than 2006 you have to have onstar upgraded and not all can. Ford has no system like onstar. All ford has is sync which is just a fancy bluetooth system. Sync will NOt call out for help, tell clordinance or do anything onstar does. Ford has nothing on Gm on this. Glad I own Gm vehicles with onstar you are right it leads the way!
