Can't you people just listen to the music and stop complaining about The Strokes. They're both great bands, The Strokes are just a grittier version of Television, and there's nothing wrong with that. You should be thanking The Strokes for being one of the few bands keeping the spirit of rock 'n' roll alive, not attacking them for sounding a little bit like there predecessors.

One of my favorite UK bands (Felt) pretty much formed precisely because of this album. It took a few years for the leader (Lawrence) to stop trying to sing like Tom Verlaine.
One thing, though - I'm committing sacrilege here, but I don't see what's great about Little Johnny Jewel. Unlike true punk bands, TV needed some studio time to display what they were best at.

Cobalt, it's real, deep ignorance, that is, of all kinds of cultural referents that used to be in practically everyone's possession. The general decline in cultural literacy ought to be something both ends of the political spectrum should be alarmed by.
Great song, of course. I first heard in '77 and decades later, it's as elegant and strange as it sounded then.
I'm a Nazi war criminal living in Argentine and I wish more Nazi war criminals listened to Television and Richard Hell instead of all this modern day Flamenco.
@PurgeInsurgency No, I wouldn't say so. Is This It came out before Up the Bracket and while the Strokes are more influenced by the Ramones, Television and the Stooges, the Libertines are more influenced by the Clash, the Beatles and the Jam. Both bands are still great though. =]

@Toughguysdontdance12 Radio Head's sold tons more albums than TV,but that hardly means they're "better".It means they appeal to a lower common denominator,as McDonalds crap food restaurants appeal to the lowest common denominator: "Billions & Billions served".Big sales don't mean food's good or healthy. In fact, McDonalds' poison, just as Radio Head's toxic my ears!
Such a TV fan I was,I bought multiple copies of their LPs late '70s&still have one or two unopened ones on vinyl, shrink wrap intact!
@Bobjb999 Radiohead is brilliant...hands down...so is Television....totally different. Wow! What an amazing song. And arrangement and playing.
I'm sure I'm not the only here who heard the song when Marquee Moon came out, was enchanted by it. And now, far too many years later than I care to admit, it's still thrills the ears.
