  • Regardez les platanes, mangez du citron, de la vitamine D3... Soyez généreux. Donnez. Peu importe la quantité mais faites-le à fond!

  • Can't you people just listen to the music and stop complaining about The Strokes. They're both great bands, The Strokes are just a grittier version of Television, and there's nothing wrong with that. You should be thanking The Strokes for being one of the few bands keeping the spirit of rock 'n' roll alive, not attacking them for sounding a little bit like there predecessors.

    Fuckers

  • Holy shit, this is awesome.

  • HUH??

  • One of my favorite UK bands (Felt) pretty much formed precisely because of this album. It took a few years for the leader (Lawrence) to stop trying to sing like Tom Verlaine.

One thing, though - I'm committing sacrilege here, but I don't see what's great about Little Johnny Jewel. Unlike true punk bands, TV needed some studio time to display what they were best at.

  • The strokes don’t even compare

  • @Lindsaylou1785 "

Is This It" is a fucking incredible Album, I do agree they just go down hill from there. But u gotta give them Is this it ./ ahaha / lol lol. Lol hahaa/

  • My god this band is amazing. Unbelievable interplay between the two guitarists... Can't believe the low view counts...

  • @JDillaDudas the lesser known bands are the best. 20 million views on a song on youtube. usually its a horrible band lol

  • this is it. this is it. this everything. +++++++++

  • such a good fucking song

  • este disco,es lejos,lo mejor que escuche,en estos ultimos años!!!llas lineas de guitarra,van mas alla,de lo increible.que banda espectacular,epico!!!!!!!!

  • Ooooooohmygod that riiiiiiiff! I want a loop of that riff to play over and over and over again for eternity.

  • First dream pop album?

  • Got this for Xmas, loving it, love the Strokes too, just love.

  • never turn off your television

  • Not all Venuses are armless, not the Birth of Venus by Botticelli...

  • Oh the lyrics in the song, I just LOVE it. "my hand felt like gloves..." God it's so good i'm gonna cry now!

  • A great tune. A beautiful guitar sound.

  • They rip off the Strokes!! ...... hehe

  • Sounds like The Strokes... OH, WAIT! Love this album :)

  • one of the best htings the 70ies gave us !!!

  • the best song

  • @pablolerat perfect as well

  • Stheno & Euryale love Television!

  • I remember seeing Television in issues of Rock Scene magazine around 1973 - 74. Thought they looked stupid, and that Television was such a stupid fucking name for a band. Hey, I was 14, what the fuck did I know?

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN haha nice!

  • Best song off Marquee Moon? I'd say so.

  • @TheEnchantingWizard1

Pretty sure the best song on Marquee Moon is the title track.... but since that's one of the best songs ever, well, it's kind of hard to top.

  • the solo guitar is breathtaking

  • Brilliant. I can't stop listening!!!!! This guitar work breaks my heart it's so beautiful.

  • I fell... Right into the arms.. of Venus de Milo.

What a beautiful image, true poetry... If you think it is just an average line, google "Venus de Milo" and go to Images...

  • @ZioStronzo

Are there seriously people who don't know what the Venus de Milo is?

  • @CobaltIsNotReal

Cobalt, it's real, deep ignorance, that is, of all kinds of cultural referents that used to be in practically everyone's possession. The general decline in cultural literacy ought to be something both ends of the political spectrum should be alarmed by.

Great song, of course. I first heard in '77 and decades later, it's as elegant and strange as it sounded then.

  • @CobaltIsNotReal If I met her, I'd totally high five her...

  • Dee Dee Ramone.

  • I'm a Nazi war criminal living in Argentine and I wish more Nazi war criminals listened to Television and Richard Hell instead of all this modern day Flamenco.

  • @manicbabyshambles123 I'm only 12 years old and I agree!

  • youtube.com/watch?v=93ms1G8pDkk RICHARD LLOYD "GET OFF MY CLOUD" 1981

  • This actually might be my favorite song ever. It's perfect. And this band changed music profoundly when they came out with this album.

  • I like The Strokes, but they ripped off this band.

  • @Polyfusia no The Strokes more directly ripped off The Libertines.

  • @PurgeInsurgency Motherfuckin' truth.

  • @PurgeInsurgency No, I wouldn't say so. Is This It came out before Up the Bracket and while the Strokes are more influenced by the Ramones, Television and the Stooges, the Libertines are more influenced by the Clash, the Beatles and the Jam. Both bands are still great though. =]

  • @PurgeInsurgency No ure wrong about that. The strokes music is earlier so they couldnt of ripped them off, so ure wrong. ahaha. its so easy to wikipedia facts i dont understand why u wouldnt do that before u say something ahaha/ lol ure so wrong haha

  • @BergKarlErik yeah someone already corrected me on that 4 months ago, as you can see above, but thanks. They are still contemporaries and the 2 bands are often compared with eachother. anyway more importantly, both bands are heavily influence by Television

  • @PurgeInsurgency no the important thing is that ure WRONG SO HAHAHAHA

  • @BergKarlErik if YOU'RE going to harass people, learn how to spell, idiot.

  • i wish people loved music as much as their dicks

  • I haven't heard of this NEW band. Why are they so NEW

  • Love it.

  • Always so cute and clever those Television boys so of course they will attract comments and boys/girls of a like nature.

  • I'm lovin' how both of the top comments are both making the same sarcastic remark, in opposite manners :p

  • plaintiff vocals / so endearing...saw these guys open for lou reed in passiac, n.j. and guess what, sally can't dance sucked and television ruled, even though richard hell was spitting into the audience. i ran out to buy the record and consider this my favorite song of all time. i'm still singin' and doin' guitar mouth all these many years later.

  • I'm only 3 years old and i wish people my age listened to this instead of that "Rockabye Baby!" bullshit.

  • I love Television AND The Strokes...and all of you should too.

  • The Strokes? Hm, they might have taken a page from the book of Television, but they are nowhere close in terms of talent.

  • didja feel low? noooooo, not at all huh??? jajajajajaja

  • 3 people were sober

  • Irrepetible y único disco. Y se grabó casi de una toma en el estudio, tocando todos a la vez.

  • masterpiece.

  • STROKESSSSSSS

  • @cocomolengo Screw The Strokes.

  • @DevDiari I like the Strokes, but I already regret mentioning them in the presence of this kind of greatness.

  • @DevDiari

    screw everything but television

  • To newcomers to this band.

Welcome to the oxigene level. I am surprised you survived.

  • Verlaine had one of the truly unique voices in all popdom, and it blended perfectly with the guitar sound of this band. Perfect fit.

  • this has the funniest comments i've ever read on youtube. obviously im gonna borrow some.

  • I'm a Beatles song and this was my inspiration

  • @spectrum99122 WHAT? Beatles broke up in 1970 this came out almost 7 years later.

  • @DevDiari Hmmm, good point. Still love it though.

  • I'm a sperm and I wish more zygotes would listen to Television rather than that fucking urethral techno shit

  • @jimmyhayers

Got a laugh from that. Much appreciated.

  • @jimmyhayers you realize that a zygote is a fertilized egg right?

  • @kingcole55 yes. Yes I do.

  • killer song

  • dee dee ramone loved this song

  • This song is such a MONSTER!!! way ahead of its time. I am glad they influenced the Strokes to outdo their simplicity

  • i now own it!!

  • i now own it!!

  • id always heard that this was one of the greatest albums?? is it??

  • @widbag YES, IT IS! DO yourself a favor and get ahold of it somewhere!!! Tom Verlaine's solo work is also amazing!

  • @thenervetattoo I FELL RIGHT INTO THE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARMS OF VENUS DE MILO

  • doesn't it sound a little bit like Bowie's Rebel Rebel (1974)?

only one little piece is similar

  • Who is the fucking dislike ? seriously

  • Part of this song was on the end of the century......

  • The Strokes are ok, but this is the real thing

  • @calligraphish this song sucks

  • 199 likes 0 dislikes

  • i heard my uncle listening to this song, so i asked him what group is it.... He said: ITS THE TELEVISION! thats when i started to listen to this band, they are just perfect! :D

  • @KurSHlusS cool uncle!

  • One of the best songs ever. There really isn't much else left to say about it.

  • "Broadway looked so medieval / it seemed to flap like little pages." Love that lyric and love this song.

  • an all time fave !! heaven.

  • Huh??

  • these guys are amazing

  • Have the original 12 inch on green vinyl. superb.

    Thats what you call music.

  • @seanodor

    ME TOO

  • "Did ya feel low?" ...nah...."Huh??..." with that spiraling guitar throughout, this music just throws you for a loop. Nothing like it, before or since.

  • i'm 100 years old

  • i've never listened to this track and not wanted to play it again straight away. beautiful guitar perfection.

  • bass is so smooth!!

  • Mamma mia che discoooooooo!!!! Con quella chitarra cinguettante e quel canto sgraziato... Verlaine mito!

  • Venus de milo - statues of her usually have no arms - ha ha good one Tom!

  • can anybody please upload TELEVISION-THE FIRE..miss that song very much

  • i think the singer was in the talking heads ive seen him playing with them before

  • @MrMcguinny Tom Verlaine was never in the Talking Heads.

  • I love finding new music. Well... "New" to me.

  • i heard them first on a ramones documentary i listen to them ever since

  • I always wondered where U2 got it from. 98% Television 2% Keith Levin

  • @10INCHCRUSHER What?? I hear like...0 % U2 in any of this.

  • Best track on Marquee Moon

  • So damn good.

This song, and this album, is an eargasm.

  • I don't care for Verlaine's singing, but the rest is good.

  • voice is a little annoying

  • @Bobjb999 So you hate Radiohead because is better than this...

  • @Toughguysdontdance12 Radio Head's sold tons more albums than TV,but that hardly means they're "better".It means they appeal to a lower common denominator,as McDonalds crap food restaurants appeal to the lowest common denominator: "Billions & Billions served".Big sales don't mean food's good or healthy. In fact, McDonalds' poison, just as Radio Head's toxic my ears!

Such a TV fan I was,I bought multiple copies of their LPs late '70s&still have one or two unopened ones on vinyl, shrink wrap intact!

  • Comment removed

  • @Bobjb999 Radiohead is brilliant...hands down...so is Television....totally different. In actuality, and no offense to Television as I love them, Radiohead was probably more influential to more genres, and if you seriously think they're not good listen to more. However, I respect you as a person because you like Television. That, however, doesn't automatically make you the world's music critic. It makes you a person who likes Television. Sorry to break your balls.

  • @MyBeautifulZygote on the contrary radiohead isnt really all that good. I dont know everyone keeps insisting.

  • @Bobjb999 I like a lot of Radiohead but I admit that Thom Yorke has become of a self-parody type of creature nowadays.

  • Marquee Moon is such an amazing album <3

  • First time I've heard of Television or Marquee Moon and I'm surprised to hear more than one enjoyable song on the album. These guys were great.

  • AAHHHH!!!! ¡¡¡No puedo dejar de escuchar esta canción una y otra vez!!!

  • Brilliant solo. The guitar sounds just like a wind instrument.

  • Tom Verlaine was a genious composer.

  • @jim0581 Radiohead has made it very clear that this is one of their biggest influences.

  • Wow! What an amazing song. And arrangement and playing.

I'm sure I'm not the only here who heard the song when Marquee Moon came out, was enchanted by it. And now, far too many years later than I care to admit, it's still thrills the ears.

  • Some has the lyrics???

  • No one makes music even close to this anymore. Many pretenders, but only one Television.

  • guitars can sing

  • @dialblova but can sings guitar?

  • genial, fantastica,inigualable

  • fantastica,inigualable........

  • So beautiful. I wish I could sit every shredder at Guitar Center down and make them listen to this album.

  • I fell right into the arms of venus the milo I love you

  • brilliant....

  • Sin television no hay strokes, asi de sencillo

  • @melocotoso ni sonic youth

  • i just found television and this album.... amazing...

is it just me or is there a lot of television in the killers??

  • @scottpastry also try strokes? or clap your hands say yeah? man their shadow looms every-fucking-where.

  • Tom Verlaine was so awesome.

  • i was very curious about this album for a while. rolling stone, vh1 and mojo all place it high on greatest albums lists. it seems like a cool bunch of songs, regardless of some of the negative comments that have been written about it. i'm glad i checked this one out for myself.

  • It's great and should never be overlooked, but's it's just one album. Find the other good stuff: it seems to be infinite, if you look properly....trust your instincts and never try to second guess 'cool' and you'll be fine

  • i fell right into the arms of venus de milo

google who venus de milo is, to see the true beauty of this poetic line, tom verlaine is an absolute genius

  • My age is irrelevant and I don't care what other people listen to.

  • I liked that part from that Ramones doc. movie where Dee Dee says CBGB for his liking (as an audience member) was a slow night with just ten people in the audience with Television onstage & Tom doing his Venus de Milo song.

Dee Dee: "I loved it. I thought it was great!" I agree with Dee Dee, it's definitely a Television high point.

  • One of the best -if not the best - debut albums ever.

  • I'm 8 months old and I wish more people my age listened to this kind of music instead of Barney and Raffi

  • I am 62 years old & wish more people my age listened to this kind of music........

  • @footballtom3685 hahahahahahahahaha

  • @footballtom3685 you must be one of those baby geniuses
