I miss that sound... The new bridge they are building isnt nearly as cool as the one I remember from childhood- and I doubt its going to have the open deck that hummed as ya drive down it... Im glad I have my 2 foot by 2 foot section of the road deck- with double yellow lines across it! (Some MN Dot guy found it in the pile of decking they removed before the implosion and gave it to me).
This is was one of my fav bridges, Born and raised Saint Paulite and frequent Minneapolis visitor RIP lowry ave bridge! wanted to be there for the implosion but unfortunately was trapped in paradise in Hawaii serving in the army :(
I've lived in Texas for the last twenty fives years. I grew up in NE MPLS in the seventies, and remember going over that bridge. If I remember right you could look through the grid and see the river. thanks for your videos, lot's of cool stuff I remember.
I have always loved how this bridge looked, and its sound.A few years back, after installing new grates, and paint they had originally intended for it to last until 2020.After the 35W bridge fell, they reinspected and changed their minds.
Oh! So it's a standard practice to replace our bridges? I didn't even know there were previous Plymouth and Broadway bridges. Do you have more information or photos of them?
If you google "bridges 2005" and click on lost bridges you can see some photos of the first plymouth bridges. I think there's been four of them. The span of the merriam street bridge is whats left of the original broadway bridge from the 80's. Wikipedia has a pic of that one.

My favorite bridge is now gone. I'm glad I got to drive over it one last time a few months ago.
Do any of you guys know about the Gingerbread House just a few blocks before the bridge on Lowry?

Yes! You did it! Historic. I'm pretty sure it's closed now, right?

You would know better than I would. I live south of the river and it sucks.

WOAH - is it really closing? I used to hang out on this bridge all the time at night with my friends, looking downtown.

Yeah there closing it. I hope they replace it with another truss. I hate what they did to the plymouth and broadway bridges.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to go down there and get some pics before they tear it down.
