Never felt comfortable with Obama or Biden not calling it an HIV test, and wondered when Obama made his " joke " if he might be a little homophobic. I wanted Hillary and still do especially in recent days, I am loosing my support with Obama over DADT - Obama - Detriment to our Armed Services " & Obama administration supporting DOMA in recent days, is he throwing us under the bus ?

There are dozens of accurate, reliable tests for HIV. Used correctly, the probability of a misdiagnoses is far less than 1 in 1,000,000.

Google "FDA testkits HIV diagnostic" for a page full of FDA approved HIV tests.

I have traveled to several nations (including some in Africa) that have AIDS outbreaks, not one trip "required" an AIDS test. I didn't get intimate with any of the locals so I had no fear of contracting the disease. I have had "periodic" HIV tests, because the military required it, not associated with any travel.

Obama's joke was funny and the timing was perfect, but it fed into the misconception that AIDS is a strictly gay disease. (I'm not criticizing it; just pointing it out.)

What I found interesting wasn't the reaction about the joke, but when Biden mentioned that Obama had also gotten a HIV test, a gasp erupted through the audience. Most knew Obama got the HIV test in Africa because it was so publicly done, but the room still gasped at Biden reminding them of that. Meanwhile, Hillary looked like a bobblehead doll nodding the whole time. The black community has some serious issues when it comes to HIV that they need to get a handle on.

I agree with you. And I think it's hypocritical, ignorant, and self-defeating when the black community takes swipes at the gay community when both groups struggle to overcome bigotry. I'd also add that ALL communities have some serious issues when it comes to HIV.

The treatment of gays by the black community is a whole issue in itself. The hispanic community, steeped in Catholism & machismo, has made dramatic inroads in accepting gays. But blacks still treat gays as if they're competition for their minority status instead of as fellow oppressed brothers. Instead of joining forces for the common good, they seek to further subjugate gays in an effort to get a leg up, falsely promoting the idea that being gay is a choice, unlike their skin color.

In the same way blacks like to deny the legitimacy of being gay, they like to deny the legitimacy of AIDS being rampant in their community, regardless of gender or sexuality. This denial is costing lives at an ever growing percentage of their community, while other communities have actually seen their HIV numbers stabilize or even reduce. Biden is to be commended for taking such a bold stance of telling the truth among such a passionately disinterested crowd.

Biden is also to be commended for being one of the first to seriously suggest that Iraq be divided into a federation of states (with a centralized government and shared oil reserves) so as to put an end to the civil war raging there. His plan is gaining more and more relevance as Bush's lack of a plan is exemplifying its overall failure.
