+8 Weapons start to automatically glow.

So, +8 fire, burns.

+8 Ice, glows blue

And as he had, +8 posion glows purple.

When the + goes up, your ice damage will increase aswell, so when you have +8 i think it will be 80 ice damage, not sure about the exact though. Long time ago i was stucked in Knight Online ^^.
