I am a foreigner and have spent the past two weeks in the conflict zone. The Russian soldiers have generally treated foreigners, Georgians, and journalists in a decent manner. However, the problem is that there are roaming "militias" of irregular soldiers (Cossacks, Chechens, and mostly Ossetians) armed and supported by the Russians that are not professional or ethical. The militias have been shooting at journalists, stealing cars, looting and burning houses, and carrying out ethnic cleansing.

It's better to convince, overthrow or kill the leaders of a country and get control over the oil or at least get good prices in long term agreements than steal oil to keep a war going and tanks running. Stealing oil for that would serve no purpose since the oil is consumed over there.

I don't take sides in this conflict as it's hard to know what's going on if you don't know Russian. Propaganda comes from both sides, so it's hard to be well-informed.
This video, like many before said, seems to be propaganda too. 1) Everyone is way too calm and doesn't even hide 2) The camera's out-of-focus is well-timed 3) Why would she be targetted? 4) A scratch? Bullets do more damage. And finally 5) Snipers don't often miss. It's the whole point of being a sniper.
