  • This looks like A 6V Generator. Is the procedure with a 12V Generator nearly the same ?

  • I hate you red light

  • It takes what less than 15 minutes to pull the engine and while its out you can check the fly wheel, clutch, throw out bearing and seals.

Having the fuel filter in the engine bay is not the best idea especially sitting next to the dizzy and above the exhaust.

  • I struggled like crazy to break the nut from the rear. Lots easier to put a wrench on the rear nut to prevent it spinning, then use a big spanner on the front of the generator and hit the spanner with a big hammer. Worked a treat for me.. Great videos all the same thanks...

  • HOW DO YOU TEST A VW BEETLE GENERATOR

  • 3:08 oh yeah....: )

    thnx for the vid

  • Red light Gone!

  • Dude thanks for the video, but has anyone told you that you sound like Donnie Baker?

  • Me podrias de cir las medidas de los dados y llaves mixtas que utilizas para el desarme del Dinamo. porfavor . Gracias.

  • I was still able to break the nut without removing the engine. Instead of using the screw driver, made a 3 foot steel bar that grabbed both notches in the pulley. So instead of holding the pulley from rotating. I held the nut from rotating then used the 3 foot bar to break it loose. Can get a lot more leverage in mid air rather then behind the fan housing. Generator light went out.

    Thanks again for the video!

  • It's always good to see a new twist on an old way of doing things. To bad you can't ost a photp of the bar ou made for the Gen. pulley.

  • Great vid, it was very helpfull! i have a 56 bug, the generator stand on this model is part of the crankcase (not removeable) so this was the next best option, all sorted now thanks! :)

  • OMG! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! I have a 1964 vw and I know what I know because of you.. Thank you... please keep them video's coming I need to learn more....

  • Any secrets to breaking that big nut in the back? I tried and could not break it loose, I even added an extension to the breaker bar and still no luck. Ive put so much force on the nut that the screw driver is just starting to chew away the notch at the front of the generator. The only way I can see getting that nut off at this point is with an impact wrench with the motor out of the car.

  • Sorry, never saw one that tight. The last guy that put that Gen. in may have use an impact wrench. Maybe you can take the whole fan housing out like the guy above does it, I never did it that way.

  • Yea I think your right, I dont know why that nut needs to be so tight but it is. Thanks for the video regardless sure makes it easier seeing it done rather than trying to figure it out from a book.

  • hey theres a easy way to do this.well i take off the engin hood off the the bolts of the the side of the fan box take the carburtor air filter off.then you take off the belt then if you pull it out side ways it come out easly.i have done like in 10 to 15 mins...go look

  • Thanks for posting this. I have to do it on mine and I was having a hard time finding out the socket size. You make it look easy.

  • Your welcome and good luck with the replacment. Doing it for the first time it may take most of the day, just take your time.
