  • "Not that we're equating ourselves to Martin Luther..."

    "Zwingli, maybe." Haha!

  • MST3K is now on netflix instant streaming. each episode is presented as an individual movie, but they're all there.

  • Amazing James Lipton impression at the very end. :-)

  • Proud to say I started watching MST3K when I was a baby and haven't stopped since. ^.^ i owe a lot of laughs to these guys

  • A Year at the Movies is fantastic! I loved that book.

  • I adore the maniacal laughter.

He could get that show on Travel Channel.

    What was Mike working on?

  • Slate Slabrock!

  • Bill Corbet was by far the better crow....loved him.

  • @gatorbait20089 D4mn str8. Apparently, I'm one of these dorks who loves traceballoo, but Corbet was so on top of his game that there was no way I could deny that Bill IS tha bizniss.

P.S. I used to represent the "AOLmisties camp." Nobody liked me, of course. xD Except for my home bro MuzzyDunce, r.i.p.

  • @gatorbait20089 Sorry, not to argue, but IMO Trace will always be Crow.

  • Never again will there be a show on TV like MST3k.

  • I love that Mike Nelson is just such a plain dude.

  • hey somebody tell me what Riff Trax is, I've been watching MST3K since I was 5 so don't tell me I don't know the show well enough.

  • @MichRockHop81108

RiffTrax is Mike Nelson, usually Kevin Murphy, and sometimes others... such as Jim Crobett (the 2nd Crow, Brain Guy). They riff on more famous mainstream movies. You buy their audio track and watch the movie (Matrix, Iron Man, etc) with their commentary on the audio.

The original founders and creators of MST3K- Joel Hodgson, J Elis Weistein, and Trace Beaulieau, along with Frank Conniff (TV's Frank) and Mary Jo Pehl (Mrs. Forester) do "Cinematic Titanic" with old Sci-Fis.

  • @asdodge19 That's cool. Huh, so do you have to go to rifftrax.com or somethin like that and buy it? Or is it on Itunes and whatnot. Where do I go to get the tracks?

  • @MichRockHop81108 Yes, go to rifftrax.com and you can buy the tracks ranging from 0.99 to 5.99 or you can get the pre-synced DVDs for usually 9.99. Any other prices will be on the website. Which reminds me, I need to get the Titanic Rifftrax to watch in the theater in 3D next year.

  • I love and miss MST3K so much! So glad we at least have rifftrax.

  • FYI guys. There are 24/7 MST3k streams on Justin.tv It wont let me link the channel here but come find us.

    :D

  • I miss the show so much.

Riff Trax is just not the same

  • @sipioc

RiffTrax has started doing old shorts and bad movies again. Cinematic Titanic is much more like MST3K... but, without robots, neither of them are the same vein as MST3K.

  • Is that a left earring? Sweet!

  • Rifftrax ftw!

  • I hope rifftrax goes on until they are 90

  • @charger619c

40 more years of rifftrax? sounds good to me!

I'll bet those three keep doing it as long as they can talk.

  • Oh, thank you for this interview mako275!

  • Mike: "Bow down before me!"

MSTies: "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"

    XD

Thanks very much, Mako, for posting this. =)

  • That was great!!!

  • if you could be a polymer... lol

  • "Look what happened with Martin Luther."

    "What was his show?"

    LMAO!

  • I would give anything to have been a part of the making of MST3K. I think that would have been the most fun job in the world, and only a handful of people can claim to have done it. How amazingly special that must make them feel!

  • I agree, I would have given my left arm to have been able to work on MST3K. That must have been the most amazing job in the world.

  • That would be cool! mike as joel and joel as mike!

  • Clog up the fax machine!!! LOLOLOL Dude. I'm old. I still love MST3K

  • Why was Joel no longer the star? That seems like the darkest secret no one talks about. I thought they'd explain it here.

  • go read up on it, google it you'll see

  • He didn't want to leave, but he thought it would better help his career.

  • I'm so glad Mike mentioned "Girl in Gold Boots"! That's my absolute favourite MST3K episode.

  • The most depressing part of watching MST3K when it was still on,was the love song theme at the end.

  • @Servocaster you know, I thought for a long while now that I was the only one who felt like that when the credits/theme ran.

that song is one of my favorite melodies of all. It so effectively evokes emotions that come along with a fond farewell: bittersweet that a good thing ends and a sense of longing (almost forlorn) for it to return. Kinda like a comedown.

Still, these guys have made me laugh the hardest I've ever laughed.

    ***Clangy Guitar Chord***

  • I always felt that way, too, about the closing theme. It always made me kinda sad. Then, when the very last episode aired, it was downright depressing! I truly miss this show.

  • you two I thought I was the onlt one?It sounded soo final

  • @Servocaster When it played on the final episode, I cried.

  • The best mst3k was the final sacrifice!

  • Yeah, because that movie while dumb was actually watchable, LOL!

  • You will always be Polyvinyl Chloride to me, Mike. <3

  • @corazondfuego And now I would also like to be Polyvinyl Chloride.

I'll bow down to Mike. :)

  • Mike reminds me of Steve Wiebe from King of Kong.

  • My favorite MST3K episode was Squirm. Mainly because the director of Squirm hated the bashing the MST3K crew did of his film.

  • That was one of my least favorite episodes because from 2003-2004 when SciFi channel still showed reruns, they kept showing that episode at least twice a month & it was like "Please show us some better episodes"

  • horrors of spider island is the first one that I ever saw and i believe it's the most consistently funny episode they ever made

  • Yeah but what about the Hobgoblins episode? It is an awesomely bad movie & I love how the bots & Mike have a fake interview with the director of the film & joke that his brain had rat droppings in it which explains why he came up with such an awful film

  • weird that they never mentioned rifftrax...

  • it was before Rifftrax I believe

  • Big McLargehuge!

  • I actually fast forward the segments between the movies on an episode of MST. The ripping of the movies are the GOODS. It's cool they have Rifftrax but you can't rip a good movie. It's not the same. Still love the originals though.

  • I love Crow's anger.

  • lol Kevin is so cute!!!

  • He is the epitomy of awesome geeky cool.

  • Gee, midwesterners dropping Martin Luther in a conversation... never seen that happen before.

  • They should have tried to Riff an Andy Warhol movie.

  • I love my job, but I couldn't imagine not missing a day of work for an entire year.

  • A Year at the Movies was great.

  • This is sad :( I miss mst3k. I know all good things end, but this show was so creative and...warm, I guess is a good way to describe it.

  • Rifftrax lacks some of the childish joy of MST3K but it's definitely a good nicotine patch now the show's long gone.

  • @ketamunke RiffTrax lives on.

  • Oh this was great. A real pleasure seeing the guys instead of their character.

Kevin can do James Lipton better than James Lipton.

  • great interview. thanks for sharing

the two of them talk about some history, the good stuff about working on the series, bad stuff, what they're doing now, the fans, etc.

i'd like to see another interview like this with the other cast members

from what DVD is this interview?

  • MST3K Collection, Vol. 5, the episode Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders.

  • all right! thanks

  • Comment removed

  • @neumandept "Your Welcome."

  • God, I love these guys. I'm going to mail them all my scalp hair right now.

  • Watching an episoe today, it's really amazing how brilliant these guys were in making that show week after week.

  • Damn, Kevin does a good James Lipton

  • We put our faith in: Blast-Hardcheese!

  • I absolutely love these guys. I am so thankful that they maintained their humble surroundings (and budget). I think had they taken the show to Hollywood, it would've ruined the "home" feel of the show.

I am so thankful for their creativity and that they were willing to utilize their creativity to entertain us.

It will be a pleasure for me to pass on the MST3K "legacy" to my kids. :-)

  • I'm sorry Kevin, but nothing makes a Coleman Francis film tolerable, not even MST3k. Even with MST3k, I still want to curl up in a ball and never watch movies again after a Coleman Francis "masterpiece"

  • red zone cuba is one of my favourite episodes of all time! :)

  • Your pain tolerance is that of a god, then.

  • yeah, no kidding. I can't watch it, even with the MST3K treatment.....

  • I think Red Zone Cuba goes beyond being bad and boring. I have the DVD and watched it 2 times because some friends had not seen it. Both times, I felt strangely depressed afterwards. There is some kind of Coleman Francis hangover that no other movie gives, even Manos.

  • A large portion of me dies when I watch a Coleman Francis film. Manos is cakewalk in comparison to a Coleman Francis work of pain.

  • Even the MST3k guys suffer through that film, i got bored just watching that episode on Google Video

  • Big McLargeHuge!

  • Smoke Manmuscle!

  • Bulk Vanderhuge!

  • Bob Johnson!

  • Stump Beefknob!

  • Buzz Flankchest!

  • Slab Squatthrust!

  • Bob Johnson.....oh wait

  • Big McLarge Huge!

  • Thick McRun fast

  • YES YES YES

  • We out our faith in Blast Hardcheese

  • I remember the WELL i knew some the people as a kid that worked there in sausilito! MST3K rules!

  • Thanks so much for posting!

  • What a gem! Thanks...
