  • how much can i see this motor for? i just came across one and want to sell. need something smaller

  • @mpc1mil If the motor is running you can get a few hundred. If it is not running you might get the most by parting it out. Look on ebay you can get an idea on prices and part prices. These are good old motors but use a lot of fuel.

  • were did you get an ignition plug for the engine?

  • @xbecca25 The spark plugs are standard champion plugs. I have gotten plugs, ignition coils, points and condensor from NAPA auto parts stores. You can also find parts online at various marine supply houses and ebay.

  • my float keeps sticking in the carb and i keep having t fix it almost every tim i go out it is a cork float do u haveany advice does yours do that ? ithink its because the ethonol makes it swell up do they make reproduction plastic floats?

  • @rory2895 I have heard that your not suppose to use ethonol type fuels in these old motors. I have always bought non ethonol fuel. I have only had my carb apart once and really don't remember what the float was made of. I know some are cork, brass, or plastic. Don't know if there are replacement parts, seems like carb rebuild kits might have a float in them. You might ask a parts house what is included in kits. I would try non ethonol fuel first. I just got back from a lake trip, too.

  • is there anything u can do to make my 1960 evinrude more fuel efficient

  • @rory2895 I have mine leaned out as far as adjustment will allow and it uses a lot of fuel. Doesn't smoke but is a fuel hog. My boat runs about 25 MPH wide open and I guess it uses a gallon of fuel in 15 to 30 minutes. I have thought about going and get another motor, maybe a 4 stroke, but these old engines are hard to beat.

  • i got my motor all back together and now it;s running awsome

  • does anyone know what size fuel fittings this motor takes?

  • when to replace impeler took of the lower unit and the drive shaft rod did not come out with the lower unit it is now stuck on the motor do u have any ideas? and water is geting in the gear oil any help would be appciated!

  • @rory2895 I have not taken lower unit off so don't know much. Mine does get some water in gear oil, I change each time I go to lake so it has not been a problem. There is an O ring around bearing that goes around impeller shaft at bottom. Fits between skeg and lower unit. O ring needs to be good or water can get in there. I bought a repair manual off ebay on a CD for $5. Good to have it covers many motors. Good luck. I'm sure there are other gaskets on lower unit too.

  • it does not look like yours is pumpin water throu the tell tail is it

  • @rory2895 These motors have a thermostat. It pumps water out the small hole once motor warms up and thermostat opens, it pumps water through exhaust all the time.

  • does it smoke much cause i have same exact motor and put about 32to 1 in it and it smokesv alot and the water turns brown and gets oily?

  • @rory2895 These will smoke if mixture too rich. I keep mine lean and it does not smoke. They use a lot of fuel and water can get oily. 32 to 1 is what they are suppose to have for fule mix. I rebuilt fuel pump and that has helped fuel consumption.

  • thanks

  • @GTweed0605 do you have any idea where to get the power hook up harness that hooks onto the side???

  • @aaronrose83 Only place I have found parts is on ebay and I have not seen a wiring harness. I had to rebuild mine as the rubber became brittle and wires inside rubber connector were breaking. Repair shops might be another source if they have old parts laying around. Both the Johnson and Evinrude from this period might work. Good luck.

  • @GTweed0605 one more question, any idea what the micro farrad rating is on those condensers????mine need replaced and I'm probly gonna go with automotive condensers or just capacitors

  • @aaronrose83 I got points and condensors at a NAPA auto parts store, the part box reads SysteMatched Products for Johnson, OMC Cobra, Evinrude. No. on box 580 148. Bought this several years ago. Most auto or marine parts store can get what you need.

  • Great Video, I have the same Motor Still runs on Lake Wallenpaupack in PA, My Father in law bought it original. I am having trouble with the auto choke, Idle is fine but i cannot get the high end to go any suggestions..Thanks

  • @jawi21

I have spent hours on mine, first blue out a plug, put in an insert, then burnt out a coil, replaced coil, runs but hesitates mid range but eventually takes off. So I rebuilt the fuel pump, replaced all fuel/ vaccum lines, now waiting to try. I picked up a repair manual on CD off ebay, covers all the old motors. Standard checks are compression, and spark off wire to plug, needs to be a strong blue spark. Rebuild carb is my next item. Just have to try things and see. Good luck.

  • whats the mixing ratio

  • @TweetyBird2895

Fuel oil mixture is 32:1 or 24 ounces of oil to 6 gal of gas

  • thank u

  • ware can a guy get a choke housing fo the exact same motor

  • @TweetyBird2895

Might try EBAY. I have bought a few parts there. You may have to buy a complete carburetor to get what you need or replace the carb with one without the auto choke. Good luck.

  • I have the exact same engine. This past summer the magnetos went bad. The best advise i can give to anyone working on these old engines is to buy the manual. makes easy work even easier. they're around $30. good luck with all the repairs

  • Wow! Nice engine! i have one simular to yours but from 1961. It is a nice engine but mine isn´t running smoothly. Really don´t know why, maby you have some ideas on folts that are usual on that type of engines? Take care!

  • @anfobomb Mine runs pretty good. Last time at lake, it was hesitating a little on power up. I have rebuilt fuel pump this winter and waiting for warmer weather to head back to lake to give it a try. These old engines are fairly easy to work on, and with any luck will run for years. On yours, check compression, if OK, check spark, should have a 1/4 inch spark off end of wire to plug, strong blue spark, if not change coil. Carb gaskets need to be good, too. Good luck.

  • I have a motor like this one. These are some good motors. Yours looks in better shape than mine. Thanks for posting your pictures and video.

  • Glad to know there are more out there.

  • Great motor there! Take care of her! Can't beat those ole ForEverudes!

  • Thanks

  • @GTweed0605 - by chance do you know wat color wire go to which terminal on the ignition. I have a 1966 evinrude 40HP big twin and the motors look the same. I belive I know where all the wires go except the big green one. Any idea?

  • @stackerj do you have a generator or alternator on your engine?
