The beauty of Darby & the Germs is that there was little thinking or planning involved...they just 'did their thing.' and it was beautiful in its awfulness....
The Germs were not The Doors. This movie tries to make Darby Crash out to be the most intelligent person in the world and the Germs the most innovative and followed band. I enjoy their music but they were not as big as this movie portrays and they were not household names.
the coincidence: darby chose to make it in FIVE YEARS based on the bowie song, which by the way resembles the lennon song mother a bit, and lennon was killed after FIVE YEARS of seclusion, a day after darby died.
the biggest inaccuracy in this film is not the moments up to Darbys death its the allusion the movie gives off that he was was more iconic than that what he really was. The Germs nor Darby Crash were great by any objective measure of music, and his on stage persona was not revolutionary as he copied Iggy Pop. His songwriting was good but most of the time you never heard what he had to say. He was so full of himself thinking the music world be blown away by his revolutionary ideas.
I'm so pissed off. This movie sucked. Fuck Shane West, teenie bopper piece of shit. And yeah, pat and lorna disgraced the name of the Germs by picking out Shane West.
