I dont think the point of the video was to put down DC...If anything I think the DC version held up pretty well considering the year it was made...Now Le Mans DC vs Le Mans Ps1 would be more interesting...
Don't compare dreamcast with xbox 360 because their production year are different.as you know that xbox 360 is much newer than dreamcast.and the graphic needs are bigger on xbox 360.
The DC graphics are ahead of their time for this game in particular. Plus, the Dreamcast was a time when we could play real game instead of games that look like movies e.g. Call of Duty. I still love my 360 though.
Both versions are great, as Azmune said, the graphics of the DC version has aged, but still being amazing what a DreamCast can do (keeping in mind it's the first game console of the 6th generation). DreamCast version is not very far of the Xbox360 version.
i love my 360 and my ps2 but when i get tired of them i fire up the ol dreamcast and play marvel vs capcom 2 under defeat and this. dreamcast still lives on until sega makes a new system.

I played Lemans 24H on an classic CRT TV, looked really good, but here looks almost like a new game.
@GonoManiax He clearly used the VGA box, look at the menu when he changes the input. But say, does your TV have S-Video? Most VGA boxes also have that output as well; picture quality is not as great, but it has perfect compatibility (a few games are not VGA-compatible), and it's still a vast improvement over composite video. Check the Wikipedia page on 'Dreamcast VGA'.
is there anybody here below the age of 18 and owned a console older than a ps2? the popular mainstream games now are really just pc fps from the late 90's with crap like leveling systems and gun attachments. i only bought 2 games within the past 2 years, and my current gen systems don't even get as much use as any of my older systems. simply put, video games have just been doing the same shit for the past 10 years but with better graphics. it doesn't take much to tie over americans.

@snakeoo8 Maybe not good right now but in its time was the best visuals with lots of cars onscreen. Of course that GameCube and Xbox arrivals change things, they are much powerful compared to DC.
dreamcast was my fave console of all time, it marked the end of a time when games were simply 'fun.' However, about a year ago I went and got myself one, dont do it, just leave your happy memories alone, those games you loved, really dont compare to todays standards.
@UNBOXING1234567890 Mine actually sits above my PS3 and next to my Wii. I must say I prefer the Dreamcast version here. It has almost identical graphic to the Xbox version. On top of that is the music that the Xbox version seems to lack.

The vid does well to showcase the levels of detail that Dreamcast game developers were willing to delve into. 360 obviously wins here, but the DC does look impressive.
Its when you see videos like this you realise how ahead of its time the DC was back in '99.
The fact that it still looks good today is testament to SEGA.
I love my DC to bits and my 360, (AND MY PS3) but for origanl & unique games DC wins hands down everytime.

This is just a comparison folks. I luv my Dreamcast it is my favorite system and hold it in high regard. Folks the system was released back in 99. The 360 is ten times as powerful. However the DC still holds its on. Of course it looks dated folks. It would be as fair as comparing a DC/PS2 to a Genesis or Super Nes/Turbo Grafx. @DutchArsene That was if you didn't have a internet connection, which at the time, was just becoming common. SEGA supported the internet boom by providing their own internet service, hence, SEGA NET. Some games, like quake 3 came with a 50 hour trial of seganet service, If you didn't have internet. SEGANET is an ISP, not a money-sucking scheme! lol

I know th dreamcast was a hell of a machine at that time, i owned one in 2000.

Seriously look at the car model, while pretty and well proportioned on the 360, the car looks like a joke.
I love the Dreamcast triggers for shooting and specially racing games, the make the race really soft controlled, not as just pushing a bottom, you can control the hard you push the break and the accelerattor.
Even Xbox triggers loose some sense of touch, the dreamcast triggers were perfect

Difficulty is spot on. Play in expert mode and you'll quickly realise how brutal but fair your rivals are. Lots of cars (more than any racer I can think of) onscreen at the same time with no slowdown or drop in framerate whatsover.
Xbox wins obviously! i dont think this video wasnt ment as a head to head as such but more of a compartition..Its a testament and complement to the dreamcast at how well it holds its own against a next gen console.. but i have to say the dreamcast looks as good as any driving game you will see on the ps2..this was prob the dreamcast redlined. I'd stay with the Dreamcast version. It was the most advanced racing experience for the DC back then, and one of the most interesting racing games back then. In fact, F355 Challenge, MSR and Test Drive Le Mans were nice battle horses against Gran Turismo 2 and 3. Speaking of which, about the graphic environment of Circuit de La Sarthe, comparing GRiD and TD: Le Mans is like comparing Forza's Nurburgring to GT's Nurburgring: the latter looks more realistic than the former.
@moogleff8: There was somthing to be realeased for dreamcast called bleemcast which would allow you to play games from ps1 but, that never fell threw aside from Grand Tourismo 2 and Metal Gear Solid. But, emulating on the dreamcast is basically the same thing im not very sure on how to do it but, ive seen it done. Its along the same lines as emulating on you computer. So basically whe you but a dreamcast your buying every system spanning from atari to ps1.
Ive never been a huge fan of the bloom effect modern games use, it reminds me of the blurry n64 days, give us crisp clean graphics like the dreamcast had.

Ha and yeah xbox had far better graphics then the ps2. The Dreamcast wasnt killed by the ps2, it was the past mistakes of sega with the add ons for the Genisis, the 32x and sega cd and Saturn, and if sony was strickly a console company then they wouldnt have the vast amount of resources the have namely money. So to say the the ps2 killed the dreamcast is an understatement. And specs wise the dreamcast can outpreform the ps2 in alot of ways.

But, when you get more complexed games like resident evil 4 that polygon count floats aroun in less than 1million at 30fps and it has no real antiasailing which explains alot of games having jagged edges when they should be strait.....

Nah i wouldn really give any credit to ps2 just cuz the past mistakes of Sega like why would you put out a console months before its release date then less than a year later pull the plug on the thing. Sega's console failure was due to its bad marketing. And sony jumped on that and hyped up ther overrated console. Dont get me wrong i love my ps2 but, ther are lots of things i dont like as well.
And the Dreamcast has a 128-bit, 200 MHz main processor, with 16 megs of system RAM, 8 megs of dedicated video RAM and 2 megs of audio RAM. This combination is capable of generating 6 million polygons per second. The ps2 has no audio ram so it all is pumped threw the processor whih can slow down some games. And the Dreamcast can do something the ps2 cant its called texture compression.
What texture ompression is, lets say it take 2megs of video ram to generate a a sphere in a game, so comparing the ps2 and dreamcast video ram Sony has 4 ad Sega has 8, so the ps2 used up half of its v-ram just on the sphere and it still has to generate the background. While the Dreamcast uses 2megs with the texture compression it brings that number to about 0.5megs of video ram leaving more than enough to make the background scene.
And to make things even better the dreamcast doesnt wast processing power to generate polygons the player doesnt even see, so what ever is beind the generated sphere the ps2 still makes but the dreamcast doesnt waste polygons making it until the object or thing is facing the gamer. and Dreamcast had online capabilities right out of the box with an upgradabel 56k modem.
Oh btw Sega helped the PS1 by putting out Virtual Fighter out in the arcade in 93, what I mean by is that most 3rd party companies didnt want to make 3D games until Virtual Fighter came out, then the companies jump in the Sony bandwagon
The last console i bought was a Dreamcast 8yrs ago. I purchased my 360 1yr ago. The controllers on these two are so similar. My Dreamcast soul live in my 360.
ok, fair enough with the dvd player although they were trying to cut costs, but frankly there were many incredible games on the Dreamcast. The reason it failed was because Sega had a shattered reputation. When the Playstation 2 launched, they shipped half of what they promised (People had to wait till March of the next year to get their system). Even then Sega couldn't sell the Dreamcast at Christmas.
@patrickharpertube yeah it was a shame i remeber it being expensive as well, my mate got one he swapped it for an old car lol, the greatness of the dreamcast was odd it had old ps1 games Resident evil 2 and 3 wwf attitude only naming a couple. Everyone was like "OMFG!!! IT LOOKS SO BLOODY REALISTIC! 24 CARS. THE SHADOWS AND WEATHER, ETC, ETC!" back in 2000. I really miss the 24 cars in a single race. Only Test Drive Le Mans had this amongst console racers. It gives it a sense of epicness. "1/24". Hell yeah.
Test Drive Le Mans was one of my favorite games. Had such a great time with it along with MSR, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 and Sega Rally 2.

Yeah, thats right Luckbay. the first xbox is like Dreamcast 2.0, and the 360 in many ways is like the Dreamcast part 2.
Microsoft developed mindows ce, which is what the DC is running on. Microsoft used ideas that they liked from the DC and used their awesome trigger and even the A,B,X,Y set up on the face buttons. They evenused the same olors for the buttons, albeit in different placement on the buttons, so as not to completly rip off the DC.
When I want to emulate my DC games on my PC I use none other than my 360 wireless controller to make and configure the controlls to their physical placement on the DC controller setup.
Even the green ring of light in the 360 controller is in some ways like the vmu screen, in that it can tell you certain info like what controller you are using, and when you get acheivments it can flash, or when the battery is going low.
There has been a lot of cooperation between Microsoft and SEGA at different points (i even heard a rumor of SEGA designers touching up X360 controllers), however despite the logo on the front, Dreamcast does not run on Windows CE. Every game embeds its own operating system, and modified CE was one of those licensed for distribution. It was slow and used by very few titles.

hey Foodperson, also the Dreamcast does Antialiasing, Texture Comprention and Title Based Rendering something very important that the ps2 dont has, also the Dreamcast has a Standart Defenition 640 x 480 th ps2 has not standart defenition so most of its games run at 320 x 240, has you can see the Dreamcast more advanced then the ps2 ;)
i own le mans for the ps2 and am gonna buy grid because to only other game i have that has circuit de la sarthe is gran turismo 4 and i want to race a full 24 hrs with damage and a day, night cycle.

I like Le Mans 24. Weather, Fuel, Pitstops that GRID does not have. Stylistically looks better too at night and the 24hrs cycle is great. No internal cockpit view on DC but has a well designed over bonnet view. Most irritating thing about Le Mans 24, in the UK version I own they screwed up the mapping for the DC race wheel. Four options & missed mapping gears to X,Y which correlate to the gear paddles. Its a soldering modding job if you want to use a race wheel on DC.
The dreamcast was a great system. Although I got fucking tired of the discs being unable to read, I still loved it. The Dreamcast is the xbox. You know how americans love to steal ideas(or borrow)! Darn that ps2!

dreamcast was my fave console of all time, it marked the end of a time when games were simply 'fun.' However, about a year ago I went and got myself one, dont do it, just leave your happy memories alone, those games you loved, really dont compare to todays standards.

Its when you see videos like this you realise how ahead of its time the DC was back in '99.
The fact that it still looks good today is testament to SEGA.
I love my DC to bits and my 360, (AND MY PS3) but for origanl & unique games DC wins hands down everytime.
What makes this even better is that even after 10 years thousnads of people still rave and share there love of the Dreamcast, not to mention that there still a company making games for it!!!!!

This is just a comparison folks. I luv my Dreamcast it is my favorite system and hold it in high regard. Folks the system was released back in 99. The 360 is ten times as powerful. However the DC still holds its on. Of course it looks dated folks. It would be as fair as comparing a DC/PS2 to a Genesis or Super Nes/Turbo Grafx. Still the DC died an early death and its true power never realized. I wonder how a TESTD2 would of look on it. DC RULES!!

Some games, like quake 3 came with a 50 hour trial of seganet service, If you didn't have internet. SEGANET is an ISP, not a money-sucking scheme! lol

Everyone who might think the dreamcast graphics are looking better than the ones on the 360, shows nothing more than that he has no clue or any knowledge about computergames.
I know th dreamcast was a hell of a machine at that time, i owned one in 2000.
But compared with the 360 we should remember the dreamcast at its best and that is no longer the graphics but its games.
Seriously look at the car model, while pretty and well proportioned on the 360, the car looks like a joke.

I love the Dreamcast triggers for shooting and specially racing games, the make the race really soft controlled, not as just pushing a bottom, you can control the hard you push the break and the accelerattor.
Even Xbox triggers loose some sense of touch, the dreamcast triggers were perfect

The graphics of the DC version has aged. The true difference however lies not in the visuals but rather in gameplay. Those who play both games extensively will known where the DC edition outshines its Xbox360 counterpart--AI.
Difficulty is spot on. Play in expert mode and you'll quickly realise how brutal but fair your rivals are. Lots of cars (more than any racer I can think of) onscreen at the same time with no slowdown or drop in framerate whatsover.

Xbox wins obviously! i dont think this video wasnt ment as a head to head as such but more of a compartition..Its a testament and complement to the dreamcast at how well it holds its own against a next gen console.. but i have to say the dreamcast looks as good as any driving game you will see on the ps2..this was prob the dreamcast redlined. Graphically the difference between these two games isnt overwhelming..not bad for a 11year old console eh??

I'd stay with the Dreamcast version. It was the most advanced racing experience for the DC back then, and one of the most interesting racing games back then. In fact, F355 Challenge, MSR and Test Drive Le Mans were nice battle horses against Gran Turismo 2 and 3. Speaking of which, about the graphic environment of Circuit de La Sarthe, comparing GRiD and TD: Le Mans is like comparing Forza's Nurburgring to GT's Nurburgring: the latter looks more realistic than the former.

@moogleff8: There was somthing to be realeased for dreamcast called bleemcast which would allow you to play games from ps1 but, that never fell threw aside from Grand Tourismo 2 and Metal Gear Solid. But, emulating on the dreamcast is basically the same thing im not very sure on how to do it but, ive seen it done. Its along the same lines as emulating on you computer. So basically whe you but a dreamcast your buying every system spanning from atari to ps1.

I too have my dc hooked up via vga to my hdtv & have the impression it looks a litle more crisp (its prolly the recording).
I'll never sell my dc, its the "newest" console I have in my collection (apart from the gc, but that looks like shit on a hdtv so it doesn't really count).
I still buy stuff for my dc every month, by the time I've finished all the games I still need to start, current console gen will be over LOL

The Dreamcast wasnt killed by the ps2, it was the past mistakes of sega with the add ons for the Genisis, the 32x and sega cd and Saturn, and if sony was strickly a console company then they wouldnt have the vast amount of resources the have namely money. So to say the the ps2 killed the dreamcast is an understatement. And specs wise the dreamcast can outpreform the ps2 in alot of ways.

Well, the Playstation 2 has a 128-bit, 294 MHz main processor, with 32 megs of system RAM and 4 megs of video RAM. This combo is capable of generating 16 million polygons per second. But, when you get more complexed games like resident evil 4 that polygon count floats aroun in less than 1million at 30fps and it has no real antiasailing which explains alot of games having jagged edges when they should be strait.....

Nah i wouldn really give any credit to ps2 just cuz the past mistakes of Sega like why would you put out a console months before its release date then less than a year later pull the plug on the thing. Sega's console failure was due to its bad marketing. And sony jumped on that and hyped up ther overrated console. Dont get me wrong i love my ps2 but, ther are lots of things i dont like as well.

What texture ompression is, lets say it take 2megs of video ram to generate a a sphere in a game, so comparing the ps2 and dreamcast video ram Sony has 4 ad Sega has 8, so the ps2 used up half of its v-ram just on the sphere and it still has to generate the background. While the Dreamcast uses 2megs with the texture compression it brings that number to about 0.5megs of video ram leaving more than enough to make the background scene.

And to make things even better the dreamcast doesnt wast processing power to generate polygons the player doesnt even see, so what ever is beind the generated sphere the ps2 still makes but the dreamcast doesnt waste polygons making it until the object or thing is facing the gamer. and Dreamcast had online capabilities right out of the box with an upgradabel 56k modem.

ok, fair enough with the dvd player although they were trying to cut costs, but frankly there were many incredible games on the Dreamcast. The reason it failed was because Sega had a shattered reputation. When the Playstation 2 launched, they shipped half of what they promised (People had to wait till March of the next year to get their system). Even then Sega couldn't sell the Dreamcast at Christmas.

Everyone was like "OMFG!!! IT LOOKS SO BLOODY REALISTIC! 24 CARS. THE SHADOWS AND WEATHER, ETC, ETC!" back in 2000. I really miss the 24 cars in a single race. Only Test Drive Le Mans had this amongst console racers. It gives it a sense of epicness. "1/24". Hell yeah.
Test Drive Le Mans was one of my favorite games. Had such a great time with it along with MSR, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 and Sega Rally 2.

Yeah, thats right Luckbay. the first xbox is like Dreamcast 2.0, and the 360 in many ways is like the Dreamcast part 2.
Microsoft developed mindows ce, which is what the DC is running on. Microsoft used ideas that they liked from the DC and used their awesome trigger and even the A,B,X,Y set up on the face buttons. They evenused the same olors for the buttons, albeit in different placement on the buttons, so as not to completly rip off the DC.

When I want to emulate my DC games on my PC I use none other than my 360 wireless controller to make and configure the controlls to their physical placement on the DC controller setup.
Even the green ring of light in the 360 controller is in some ways like the vmu screen, in that it can tell you certain info like what controller you are using, and when you get acheivments it can flash, or when the battery is going low.

There has been a lot of cooperation between Microsoft and SEGA at different points (i even heard a rumor of SEGA designers touching up X360 controllers), however despite the logo on the front, Dreamcast does not run on Windows CE. Every game embeds its own operating system, and modified CE was one of those licensed for distribution. It was slow and used by very few titles.

Haha, get this, I sold my 360, and I now just bought my 2nd Dreamcast ever, sold my original in 2002.
I am having so much fun playing all the emulators/games that I couldn't find back in the day.
Also there is a version of Shenmue 2 that works on NTSC-U systems that has the American audio from the xbox version!
Google Shenmue 2 English speech edition. It just came out a few months ago.
Its better than playing it on the xbox, cause we didnt have it here in the US on our DC's....

xbox 360 sucks in every way anyway, so dreamcast is alot better than xbox in my opinion

hey Foodperson, also the Dreamcast does Antialiasing, Texture Comprention and Title Based Rendering something very important that the ps2 dont has, also the Dreamcast has a Standart Defenition 640 x 480 th ps2 has not standart defenition so most of its games run at 320 x 240, has you can see the Dreamcast more advanced then the ps2 ;)

i own le mans for the ps2 and am gonna buy grid because to only other game i have that has circuit de la sarthe is gran turismo 4 and i want to race a full 24 hrs with damage and a day, night cycle.

to premets, the graphics of corce are not like the new systemes, but does that means that the Dreamcast sucks? what are the games about? graphics or fun? also if the Dreamcast looks ugly like you sayed what do the ps2 looks? Beautifull?

the thing about dreamcast was the games they made games that were fun to play like jsr shenmue grandia well not really cause started on ps1 mortal kombat space channel 5 soulcalibur crazy taxi there was this other game where u were this pet aand u raced downhill on your stomach in snow sonic adventure the dreamcast focused on wat they made the dreamcast for games

The dreamcast was a great system. Although I got fucking tired of the discs being unable to read, I still loved it. The Dreamcast is the xbox. You know how americans love to steal ideas(or borrow)! Darn that ps2!
