  • Together with Jungleland by Bruce thiw song is one of the best i ever heard

  • KONY

  • I love the part about "puttin' on his little red shoes"!!!!!

  • I came on here wanting to make some comment on the pure beauty of this music, but quickly realized that is beyond the capabilities of any human language. This transcends everything we know, and everything we will come to know. How this can possibly be the work of a 23 year old man is beyond me. Truly magical.

  • @edgerr66 Couldn't agree more.

  • A-Heeeehdkiwhekh@&#^$&%%&*#$#-Ahhhhh-aaaaaammmm, standin' in your sad arrest, ah-tryin' to do mah very best!!!!!!!!

  • Astral Weeks or Only a Hobo. Or Gasoline Alley, back when Rod Stewart channeled Van.

  • this song is so deep

  • For everone, but for my Brothers Children especially.....

  • Great song by van the man, nice to see you can get more content on you tube instead of vanmorrisoncom. Got the feeling a few years years back listening to Back on Top that he was a wee bit anti net, think he's not so nowadays.

  • lay me down! Kiss your eyes! See me thro the days of wonder !! Vans the MAN ! Full stop. .x

  • also suggest look up and locate "For What Was Gained" by McKendree Spring.. a great bookend to this tune.. both touch my soul, and both will be played at my funeral

  • yes

  • I predict this song will be a hit! Geez, fantastic lyrics: "If I ventured in the slipstream, between the viaducts of your dream, where immobile steel rims crack, and the ditch in the back roads stop----" Where is that?

  • 10 people completely lack taste and dignity.

  • it is simply impossible to over-estimate this album, and then when u read the slap-dash way it came about and was recorded it becomes a wonder, a miracle...

  • To be honest I think it's really missing a catchy Eurobeat drum pattern and a vocoder ;)

  • Had this for 40 odd years on vinyl, cassette, CD and mp3............ don't listen to it often, but when I do, it's always right. It's a transcendental masterpiece and all the more so by being put together by a 23 year old.. It came from somewhere and it'll be around forever.

  • When I hear the opening bar of this song, the beautiful bass, I can't help but be taken to another world. No matter what is going on around me.

  • Words cannot describe this song. Thank u so much Van for being the genius and legend that you are. Cannot wait to see My Baby at Belfast Odyssey 03.02 (tomorrow night in fact). Roll on. To Be Born Again

  • amazing song

  • way up in the heaven..

  • la la la trying to do my very best..say no more ..legend

  • I have now listened to this song every nite before I go to sleep for the last 3 weeks, and it's still perfect. Thankyou Van Morrison for being the man

  • @500Milesification I know what you mean... I listen to this song, Sweet Thing and Queen of the Slipstream every night and I'm in nirvana

  • That violin starting around 4:35 and stepping up higher and higher borders on the transcendental

  • The greatest album to come out of Ireland? A strong possibility....

  • @yesackram Greatest album to come out of the world?

  • So nice to see all these comments....you are my heart, people who understand....

  • This isn't the song I'd want to listen to when I was dying. This is the song I'd want to listen to when I was bein' born.

  • @evilthesaurus Fuck Ya!

  • I don't know why this song gets to me like it does. Somehow, it reaches deep into the heart, and wrenches out the emotions that I have been trying to bury. And despite the tears, it gives me hope - despite all the crap in my life right now - there is hope - In another time, in another place, in another land, so far away. Not an afterlife, not the next life, but tomorrow - there is hope in tomorrow. And that gives me the hope to get through today.

  • Try the Unplugged album or Still on top , Healing game album Van Morrison and Jonhy Lee Hooker.. Hope that helps

  • is there any only blues album of van?

  • @imbeatles Your best bet would probably be Too Long In Exile

  • Why does he say that he got a homo hat at 5:00 ?

  • He says "I got a home on high"

  • @L41MovieEditor that's a 'home on high', i.e. heaven

  • Van make a video to go with this great song live version plz.

  • I love how this song isn't about anything except life. No matter the situation I'm in when i listen to it i can feel the true emotion that Morrison is trying to convey. It's not a feeling of happiness or sadness, but just the feeling of how understandable life can be, while also being a complete mystery. A feeling of Awe doesn't do this feeling justice.

  • @nobreath181818 ..Hi there..the guy is a complete mystery..everything is right,no matter which angle you view it from, lyrics, vocal, music it all happens as it should..the fact is only he can put it together..and he doesn't want to know fame and couldn't give a toss whether anyone likes it or not..which makes me love him more.

  • i just discovered van morrison and i am in love

  • @ElleRoxMyFabSox88 I'm happy for you. Some people will never hear this song and that's just sad to me.

  • i grew up on his music a person that nobody would think would like it

  • this may be the most beautiful thing i've ever heard.

  • simply listen and enjoy , it's quite incredible, from an old man.

  • @Maris4091 old man !!!!! i think you mean ......timeless....says an old man

  • This record changed my life. Long story... You cannot recreate this "magic". Please pass it on so the appreciation grows.

    Thank you Van!!!!!. forever grateful...

  • @jwglessons ... Long story...pure magic...grateful, simply grateful....

  • Nothing but a stranger in this world. To be born again.

  • Who are these 9 dilikes? Are they deficient? Van the man that voice.

  • The top comments have nothing to do with this song-when will you all start to venture into the slipstream between the viaducts of your dreams---show pictures on the walls, whispering in the halls, pointing a finger at.......... lookin' straight at you comin' through......to where the ditch in the backroad stops...to where silence ceases to be born again.

  • Sheet, people are stupid. It's embarrassing in the first place to have to read arguments on the internet, but the misspellings just drive the whole shamefulness on home. Why don't you all stop for a second and appreciate the absolutely magnificent music playing in the background of your fourth grade dick measuring contests. Van the Man and Astral Weeks, that's what matters.

  • this song makes me happy :)

  • 10 people don't have ears.

  • Along the same lines as a last meal, I asked my friend the one song he would want to listen to before he died. He immediately replied "Astral Weeks." I think that's a damn fine choice.

  • @eatl1291 close tie between this and Cyprus Avenue

  • @eatl1291 I totally concur. One of the very best songs ever written.

  • @eatl1291 Amen.

  • Way too many complicated comments people.... Simply beautiful, beautiful music........

  • I really don't feel that Van, or any other legend, should have their song dedicated to some drugged out piece of trash.

  • I wonder if van has been invited to the music awards being held in his home town of Belfast next month, so far i havent heard his name mentioned, for all i know the could have him lined up for a lifetime achievment award concidering he has sold more records than lady gaga katty perry and snow patrol put togather you would think the organizers would have invited him but for all i know he could have been invited and declined, i will wait and see????

  • This so rocks the hearing senses ...it's without a doubt a classic " from another world ,from another time ... like 1968 ??????

  • Some songs touch your soul and this one did, the first time I listened to it so many years ago, in another time...... in another place. Now I am older and it stil hits me straight into my heart.

  • in another world... in another time...in another land... so far away...way up into heaven.....

  • the song of my life.

  • the curse on the 9 who dislike is that they don t get to play this OVER AND OVER!!! van s a magician of the ears and spirit !!! a home on HIGH !!!!

  • good old stuff!!

  • I saw him once in the harry krishna restaraunt in soho square london in the mid 1970s with an american girl with long hair.

  • * * * * *

  • what is this.....? i love it.

  • awe inspiring! genius...

  • WOW! :D

  • I love the damn Song its so good back when music made you feel good like the Fleet Foxes now . This is the kinda of feeling in music we need to get back to. such of the likes of jannis joplin and all of the old good music.

  • slipstream is when you draft basically like nascar the lead car makes a pocket of of air and the car following uses less power to maintain the same speed and in effect the lead car can go faster due to the low pressure region of the leading car ,also following in ones wake ,but i think he's talking about living on two different planes of existance.

  • ..Way up in the heaven ..

  • Magic !!!

  • love you mum there you go i will look after your boy

  • love you mum there you go

  • best song ever wriiten

  • Listening to this with the fall breeze blowing the leaves around outside, sun shining, happy to be a human being on this planet :)

  • I sitll am not clear what the slipstream is. Can someone tell me? thanks.

  • would youuuu kiss-a my aaaaaassssss?

  • The first time I heard this album, within the first 1 minute of this song I knew this was the music I was looking for my whole life. No exageration. I was 22

  • May I recommend the book 'A Pop Revolution, the transatlantic music scene 1965 to 1969' by the invisible man. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • This song just creates an ambience or mood or whatever you'd call it. You just get a warm familiar feeling.

  • The definative album

  • God made the Irish alcoholics to stop them taking over the world!! I first heard Astral Weeks 30 years ago and I still love it. Van at his most inspirational.

  • @isoldelynch so so true.... been with me for 40 years.......Still have the CD...

  • @elizabethosler

    How modern!!!

  • awesome song, great playlist

    Rex:) 02

  • 0:21 i love the echo on "stop" when he says "in the back road STOPPPPPPPP!!!!"

  • To be born again

    In another world

    In another time

    In another place

    In another time

    In another face

Exactly what i feel. Van morrison is a genius.

  • The original flipper/tripper...a kaleidescope of colours and sound all intertwined,.blessed with feelings and words ...that should never be forgotten!!! to be born again ...in another world ...in another time !!!!...classsic astral ...

  • Maybe the best album ever. Every time I play it, it's like hearing it for the first time.

  • Not so far now Van. Ever notice? Thank you for Everything.

    Thy

    King

  • @harleybunt HA! - now you!

You reckon 'you're the king of Van'?

    Are you serious?

    Thy more like.

Van would kick you in the nuts and not even writ a song about it.

  • @aribbonit

Thank you for you wit and grasp of the the idiocy of the English tongue.

We are thy King to, dear sir.

Can you grasp this nuance? Can you see beyond your own snitty grab at something to feel anything any way

or another, make you real. Van has no inclination to kick anybody in the nuts not even you. Van is interested in healing

and so am I. Van Morrison is a Troubadour of God. I work for the same guy. Just different bells and whistles as it were. We Love Our job.

    thy

    King.

  • @harleybunt you sound drunk fella! listen - I met morrison one time and I can guarantee you that he'd smack you in the nuts. If you work for van morrison you must be in the band. So maybe Just stick to the music tough guy and quit yabberin on here ya big palooka.

  • In 1974 my girlfriend ( now wife ) fingered through my record collection and looked up at me with those big green eyes and said " I have this album - we belong together". 33 years later, thank you Mr Morrison. Tom.

  • @tma56 His name is Van (short for Ivan) - not Tom. Please get your facts straight you romantic lush.

  • Chills, Tom. Whoever you are.

  • @tma56 You're welcome.

  • great song, great playlist

  • Morrison rulez!

  • @franzjdoreza What does it say about you. that you feel the need to rudely criticize whilst praising an undoubted genius. Please leave your baggage outside.

  • its as if this is an alternative history for music. Another projection of musical history, where we threw away the shackles of song structure heaped upon songs from decades of "progression". Pure soul, this album is amazing.

  • Brilliant! At five minutes you believe it's ending and it's still more than two minutes left.

  • Listed to Astral weeks, Cyprus Avenue, Into the Mystic, Here comes the sun, Penny Lane & The Misty Mountain Hop...over & over on a flight from Doha to Colombo, flight time 4 hours!!

  • dedicating this one to miss Winehouse. just heard that she passed away...

  • @neldarh Lolllllll Winehouse?.....really?....out of all of the celebrities who have died, you choose her?.......(sigh)

  • @12321Walrus There's no need to be a dickwad. I was listening to this song online when i heard the girl died. sue me for having a fcuking heart! "out of all the celebrities...you choose her" really?! A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  • @neldarh Didnt mean to come off as a dick. Although i can honestly see how you could have. I just mean like, she was a ridiculous waste. Sure she was talented, but she died from an OD of like horse tranquilizers and a ton of other ridiculous stuff. Its a shame she did that to herself, but it was almost inevitable you know?

  • @12321Walrus I understand what you are saying but you have to understand that this girl was the quintessential addict.

In their natural state, no living thing wants to die; survival is instinctual in all of us, so when we do things that put our safety in jeopardy, it's because we're feeling not-so-good about our selves.

I didn't know her and i wasn't a big fan, but just imagine how sad it must be to die alone...

  • Comment removed

  • @neldarh You can't go round 'dedicating' songs to people - you a fuckin DJ or something? When you put up your own stuff on whytub go ahead and dedicate to Buzz Aldrin even but don't go riding on spaceodysee0's tails man.

    Showin no respect aii.

  • @aribbonit dude, i don't know where you anger/hostility is coming from but, if it makes you feel better, i'll take it. i hope tomorrow is a little bit better for you, than today.

  • @neldarh Hey - I'm not angry or hostlitity. Just saying fella! - You need to quit all this 'amey winehouse tweeting' stuff - this is a fukin man the van page man.

Theres whole heaps of amy pages - go tweet THEM up

    sheee

  • @aribbonit a few things; 1) you're clearly angry. 2)WTF are you even talking about?! what "amey winehouse tweeting"? I'll tell you the same thing i told the other ass-clown: I don't go around dedicating songs to dead celebs; that's not the first thing on my mind when i get up in the morning. I happened to have been on youtube listening to this song when i found out that she had died. it made me sad (because i'm not a tool) so i decided to express my feelings in that little gesture; sue me!! smh

  • @aribbonit Ps. lol @ "hostlitity"....

  • @neldarh 'It makes me sad because l'm not a tool' - AAHAHAHAAAHHAHAAHAHAHAH

    1. you actually

    2. I am not angriy. - I'm just telling you off for moaning about dead unrelated singers to the singer van morrison on the van morrison page

    4. you should start up some 'gaylords who aprreciatne amey winehouse moaney poof ' society

    chill the beak nerdler

  • @aribbonit way to find something important to get pissed about

  • @ragingbull2001 Who is pissed?

    way.

  • @neldarh fuck amy winehouse. van morrison forever.

  • @bud3dharma It's not a competition. Both gave art to the world. Whether or not you appreciate the art is your own business, however, I don't think it's out of reach to say that each life should be respected. Nothing lasts forever. Be grateful for what you have and what you had.

  • The Bio of this song leaves me speechless. How this one man brought it all together. Van Morrison is BRILLIANT.

  • @lennydylan what's the first?

  • @weddygrl13 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band :)))

  • 2nd greast album of all time

  • @lennydylan rankings are all a matter of personal preference. I personally think Sgt. Pepper is overrated and Astral Weeks owns it any day

  • @weezadam Who mentioned Sg.Pepper, the greatest album ever made is Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde.

  • @lennydylan

I used to think that way also

    I was wrong

    you are wrong

    Blonde on Blonde is good

    but its NOT tops

Dylan should have been more selective

all great writing requires great edtting

    ``:)

  • @osvie01 Right you are, my friend. Transcendental is the best way I've heard it described. Personally, it's the closest I've ever been to heaven!

  • I first heard of this album when I saw on the list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and I was curious to find out why it made it so high on the list. So I bought it, and when I first heard this song, it was like I was hearing heaven. So much beauty and imagery in only seven minutes, that's amazing.

  • Astral Weeks is like a glass of water, and I'm a man who enjoys his water

  • it's not just more than music, it's more than everyday life.

  • Man/woman, if you ever feel like life's getting you down lie down on your bed and put this album on. It'll take you to another place for a while. :)

  • This song is peaceful =]

  • I can't say it better. Still my fav of all time. It was Van's Opus. I'm not even a huge Van fan...but this will always be more dear to me than anything I've ever heard. It was recorded in 48 hours. He hired a buch of jazz musicians, sat in a little booth by himself and told them to play how they felt. Rare magic.

  • He was only 18 when he recorded this.

  • The philistines who hear my posting won't get this album - the only one I have is still on vinyl - this one. I woke up craving food and van Morrison. I haven't listened to him in a while and need this.

  • I am born again

  • It should have more views than this; very well composed song. decent lyrics ALL SOUL

  • sunday tune chillout

  • question is, who the fuck doesn't like this? celtic masterpeice

  • aaahhhhh whenever I hear this I think of summer ^_^

  • i don't even want to meet the six simpletons that disliked this video.

  • Just fuckin' beautiful.

  • The entire album is transcendent. Definitely near the top of the "desert island" list.

  • I wish I could have this as my theme song for everyday...God Bless you Van Morrison! I love you

  • I have albums way back to 1964...THIS is STILL in the TOP two !~!

  • i am young again .

  • from 5:31 - 5:45 my heart melts!

  • @neldarh greatness!

  • The sixties and seventies are still feeding my soul after all these decades. Pure creative and imaginative joy. I'm going to paint listening to this on headphones. The whole album is verging on the transcendental. Thank you.

  • This album is transcendental. Close your eyes and experience it!
