The SBS is comparible to Seal Team 6 and the SAS to Delta Force. I was an American Marine and trained with the Royal Marines back in the mid 90's. They are the toughest guy's I ever trained with.. period... The average American Marine would not pass Royal Marine Commando Course..

i like brits but SAS is not the best. just because a lot of special forces are based on them, it doesnt mean they are the best. SAS have been caught in lots of missions and Argentine commandos 601 defeated them.

@yandyy When u fight as much as the SAS do then u are going to take ur fare share of defeats. It's part of the job. The SAS do not claim to be supermen like how Hollywood tries to portray US SF. I can name many US SF fails but I don't think I need to. It's part of the game. Ya win some ya loose some. What u need to take into account is how many the SAS have won compared to how many they have lost & then compare that to other SF. Anyone can sit in their backyard and then claim a 0 defeat count :)

Or that Israel are not the best coz they have never even seen the Jungle/Arctic let alone fought in it. SF are not invincible. They are humans & they make errors. The SAS have more experience than all other SF combined. This is what makes them no.1. There's not alllot to speak about regarding other SF which is why there's not as many hick ups

There is an argument to be made that we do not know what goes on behind the scenes but this is a false debate to begin with due to the nature of not knowing. All we can go by is what has been released. We can be certain that the SAS have done more than what has been released but lets go by what we do know.

I disagree and I base my disagreement on the actual number of opps we do know about by all SF and their fail/success rate. Now, let's compare the number of of opps and their success rate. @yandykun More avoidance I see. This is always the reponse we get when challenged haha. I think the SAS are allowed a few fails considering the amount of epicness they have displayed over the years. Regarding the Falklands....what you leave out is the successfull missions and % :) If this is all you have on the SAS then you don't have allot. Your argument is like me bringing up Delta getting owned by child soldiers in Mogadishu or the Russians getting owned in Belsan. All SF have fails.

@yandykun Your argument is a negative one as I can name any SF (assuming they have more than 5 missions to their name) and then point to a defeat. If u are going to say the SAS are not the best and then base that opinion on a few failed missions then you need to tell us what SF is the best and why. To distinguish who is best you need to compare fails/success % of ALL missions. There's no need to be angry. The SAS have been around since WW2 and wrote the book. It's no shame coming second place :)

@N1Legion Yeh the Brit hostage was Linda Norgrove. She shouldn't of even been there but what made matters worse was that the US military initially tried to cover up error by claiming that the Taliban had dressed her in a suicide vest. This was exposed as a lie when the autopsy found fragments of a NATO grenade in her body & concluded that she was killed by US forces. He claims SAS are not the best as a matter of fact but can't tell us who is. Why make this claim if one can't explain it?

"cover up"? The first thing I read was that she died in an explosion and that it was being investigated further. And then later came out it was from a friendly grenade.

Every country in the world may have SF but how often do they fight compared to say...SAS/Delta? Playing games is not the same as real combat experience. SF like SAS/Delta have been fighting continuously for over a decade now (Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya etc).

@IIGrimIICurseII - The SAS and SBS are exactly the same, both have EXACTLY the same selection and training, exept after a soldier passes and joins the SAS he has the option to apply for SBS selection which just pulls the strongest swimmers from the SAS.
So I don't really see how they "put the SAS to shame" just because they are stronger swimmers.

@milltiaryman001 The chances are pretty low, but with a lot of preparation and hard work, it's achievable! I believe the waiting list after you drop out is about a 1 year waiting line? As ofcourse, the recent troop intake cutbacks have occurred, the time will be longer.
