The story is that Paul and John were joking about what they would do if a girl turned them down... John said he would burn her house down. It is also a jab at the abundance of "low rent" women living in flats furnished with "Norwegian Wood" which was basically very cheap, rather crappy looking furniture.
Great lesson. Try playing the first part of the d minor section at the fifth fret (e - 5th, b 6th and g 7th) to get the melody note. Keep up the good work!
This is great!....the first time i heard this song was from my cousin he was playing and it was good to listen with this guitar music....since then i started to love the songs of The Beatles .......wish i could play this music too! :D ....thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, keep it up Mr. :-)
The Beatles themselves were like other men, but the music and lyrics channeled through them contained magic and messages from beyond the mind. To learn how to perceive these hidden meanings, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read through the section about The Beatles.
capo on the 2nd,6th, 7th fret .it really doesnt matter people!! thats just playing in another key or also called as transposed(original played in E Mixolydian and without capo you transposed it to D mixolydian )
Hm, as I heard it, he used Norwegian wood to describe cheap furniture made out of pine, and people called it Norwegian wood to make it sound nicer. What I heard was that the song was about one of Lennon's affairs, and in the end he burns her apartment down for making him sleep in the bath.
i heard the too, when she left for work, there was no fire wood so lennon burnt the Norwegian wood, the girl was a prostitute i thought, 'i once had a girl, or should i say she once HAD me', 'she told me she had work in the morning and i started to laugh'.
It's actually believed that Norwegian Wood was said instead of "knowing she would" not "I knew she would". But other than that, good job with the lesson - although to play along with the recorded version, you'll need a capo on the 2nd fret, and play the chords relative to that.
im a bit confused.. im a little new in this but im pretty sure that the notes are played D / C x2 but when after you hit the Dm i think it should be G and NOT C..... and THEN Dm / Em....
This is a better version, and if your new don't comment on his version. I like this guitar version more than the original. Besides the original was played on an Indian Instrument (Not Native American Indian)
As always, your lessons are wonderful. Your choice of songs, clear presentation and warm performance are always appreciated. Thanks for your help in my efforts to learn guitar.
Hi there and thanx a lot for your easy to understand lessons. I appreciate a lot what you do for the great community of guitarrists all over the world. Keep on posting, please!
Also did you know at the end when John sings "So I lit a fire,.." He's talking about smoking a joint. Also..John plays this with a capo on the II fret.
Thanks for posting the how-to video. I just recently heard the song for the first time. I was wondering how it was played. I want to lean to play it myself Thanks!
Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" is a song by The Beatles which first appeared on the 1965 album Rubber Soul. While credited to Lennon/McCartney, it was primarily written by John Lennon, though Paul McCartney contributed to the middle eight section.
Oh yes that is a Guild isn't it. I Should've known Mr. Goldhat wouldn't play something as cheap as a washburn haha. Apparently Washburn stole the Guild pickguard design.
