The Elantra does not get 40MPG highway. Check out that data on the website 'fuelly'. Consumer watchdog has sent a letter to president Obama and to the EPA stating that you car does worse that what the EPA tests reveal, and Chevy Cruze consistently does better than what it's EPA values are. Both the Elantra and Cruze are 33MPG combined).
The Cruze gets an average of 28% better mileage than the Elantra.
Stop lying please. My mother got an Elantra, always in Eco mode, can't get more than 25MPG
@bobbawon i think you should know that i was stressing the hyun part... most people pronounce it HUN or HON... like HONDAY like honda. my point is that there's a "y" in hyundai that serves a purpose. and then white people criticize people that minorities can't speak english... go over phonetics geez
Rented it today, drove it 568miles and it was awesome. And I only had the base model. Love the quick response of the computer and the 6spd trans. Love the feel of confidence behind the wheel. The car does not feel heavy or underpowered. The seating position is great, the ride it tight and composed, almost Hondaish.Only complaint I have is the large A-pillar, but due to crash-regulations, I suppose that cant be helped with the airbag in the pillar. I avg'd 33.8mpg at 85mph with A/C on.
0:43 Not in the USA, but go to Europe and there are all kinds of stylish compacts on the road with fancy headlights, luxury interiors etc. It's just the US, as ever, that's way behind the curve with this stuff.
I'm 6 foot tall and i think the head room is livable, but i can't say the same about my Dads 3 series who costs twice as much, he used to have a 5 series, and Elantra has better leg room than the 5 series as well...
@DavidEloySaenz I don't know about that lol, I sat in a 5 series and was even surprised by that car even having a good amount of back seat space considering it being a sports sedan.
Itwould be nice to hear how tall the guy is so we can gauge whether the headroom problem is a big deal or not. He could be 6' 3" and everyone would think the car was tiny when it really isn't.
@itsTiLER He should state it in every review seeing most are not going to hunt through 100s of videos to see where he stated it. Assume the viewer is seeing his reviews for the first time.
@flipfloplogic Kinda funny thats coming from someone whos user name is flip flop logic, LOL I think heated back seats are kind of dumb in a compact car, because the majority of drivers are young people. Mid sized sedans and large sedans with heated rear seats makes more sense.
@bigtruckseriesreview The Chrysler 200 is a different class, and different market. It's much bigger and costs much more, and it supposed to be a luxury car, not an economical one, so of course it's better, but it's also a whole different segment of the market.
While I won't argue about the class, the fact is that the price - which starts at $19,245 - and will easily be found slightly cheaper than an equivalently spec'd Hyundai is a better deal. The Elantra is expensive when you add equipment to it. MSRP on an Elantra Limited with Navigation is $23,000. The 200 with navigation is roughly the same price since the dealer can mod it. I'd rather have the 200 since you get more and a softer ride.
@bigtruckseriesreview Yea right, a 200?? The ride of the 200 is terrible and so is the fit and finish of the car. Rent one for a week or two and compare (because u can rent them both from Hertz) The 200 is a Dodge Avenger and although they're "better" than their predecessors they arent as well made as the Hyundai. The 6spd trans on the 200/Avenger destroys its economy as well. Avg 29.5mpg at 85mph. Even the 5spd Civic gets 34 at that speed (I've rented them both and will rent the Hyundai nxt)
The Elantra lost comparo's to the Ford Focus over it's harsh ride and lame steering. If you want one, buy one. I own an SRT8 and an S550 so these types of cars aren't even in my mind. But, if I did buy one, it would be the 200.
@bigtruckseriesreview Have u even driven one to be mentioning the 200? I like economy cars and drive different makes and models all the time. We arent comparing the Focus to anything, although it also has a harsh ride. They're smaller cars, what do u expect anyway? The only negative to the Elantra is its odd grabby brakes. The car is quiet for its class, great on fuel and looks good. The 200 is just stylized and has been updated justa bit with big wheels and nonsense like that.
I just feel bad for people who can't afford the options. I refuse to buy a car without heated/cooled seats a Nav and a moonroof. To have to choose one of these low end pieces of shit would be my own personal nightmare.
@bigtruckseriesreview Tis the Cruze's biggest fault IMO. The trim packages are to complex and far too expensive if you want something as simple as Nav. GM is relying on OnStar far to much in many of their cars instead of offering Nav at a decent price or at all for that matter.
Actually, people shopping on their last dime, are in luck cause Onstar does deliver Nav info directly to the car's radio even though it doesn't have an LCD screen. I'm happy the Cruze, unlike the Malibu, offers a nav system.
@bigtruckseriesreview I know that, that's what I meant by them offering OnStar to often in place of the real thing. The problem with that approach is On Star is a subscriber based service that is only free for a year, after that it is rather expensive per month and doesn't offer a lot of the key things people want from their Nav head unit, like traffic updates, rerouting, and gas prices (MyLink is awesome though). The Elantra goes out the door for 21K with Nav, The Cruze is around 25K IIRC.
I bought my mother an STS and from what I know, onstar and XM radio come together for a relatively decent price. i think it was a special for $100 a year or something. She gets both...meanwhile I have to pay for XM in my S550 and then pay for it on my iPhone 4 so I can use it in my SRT8.
You may feel differently about this, but, for me, I used to feel having a factory Nav radio set my cars apart from just being "regular". Now the mark for me is AC &heated seats.
As for pricing...right now, prices fluctuate WILDLY. I checked the price of a 2011 Chrysler Limited with Nav and Leather the other day and it was marked down from $33K to a ridiculously cool $28K. 200's enjoy even better price advantages.
@bigtruckseriesreview Not really on the new Hyundais. They have very little incentive on sticker prices along with the Cruzes. Those are 2 cars where you are lucky to get 500 off MSRP unless you use your GM point card or USAA military discount. Also the 200 is a decent car, but I haven't heard the best things about it, yet is is a vast improved over that POS Sebring. Yet a Sonata tops out at about 29K loaded and no incentives, the Sonata is a much better car than the 200 as well. New Malibu FTW
I agree with you there. In fact, with the crisis in Japan, dealers have tried to RAISE prices on their cars - which backfired - and caused sales to slow down for the past two months. Meanwhile, Chrysler, GM and Ford took advantage of this and lowered their prices. Take a look at C&D's comparison of the Focus Titanium and Elantra.

Compare Katrina to Sendai. Also I watched that C&D when it first came out and I liked it but many other reviewers have given the Elantra first place, I think simply on style options and price.
@blaknoizee Updated just a bit? Maybe the exterior. The interior is completely different along with many of the mechanics including the new pentastar. But it is still not a very competitive offering when compared to what else is out there, it is far more than a refreshed Sebring though.

@bradmax39 I have a cousin that has one of these, 35 mpg hw max, add AC and passengers and then 31-32. only way to possible get 40 mpg is no passengers, no ac, windows all the way up and 45-55 mpg. Overall ok-decent car but, overrated and overpriced.(some dealers are over MSRP)
