  • Nice playing. I'm still partial to the Ron Barron recording of this, on the album Le Trombone Francais. That was the first time I heard this piece, and it kind of set the bar. You have to admit though, Jorgen, Alessi, Barron, all are top notch.

  • ooooo fuuuukkk uuu!!! that was amazing. u just shited on the stage lmao

  • Great playing...this is one of my favourite pieces for trombone.

  • Very expressive trombone playing

  • WHO IS THIS PIECE BY?

  • @deuce86motionon1 The piece is Piece in E flat Minor, by Guy Ropartz.

  • also DEM EYEBROWS

  • Alessi has a seemingly unique sound. It's not a bad sound, but there's eomthing about it I don't always agree with. Extremely soloistic, even during his orchestral playing. Also he messed up omgomgomgomgomgomg *rolls eyes*

  • I feel bad for the four deaf people who disliked this.

  • More reason to play bass trombone...get away from this scary shit.

  • On that note, time for me to go practice :P

  • god i shouldnt have read the comment about his eyebrows at the start. i had to watch it again coz i wasnt listening i was just watching his eyebrows and laughing. curse you eyebrow comment.

  • @Joman166 Lol

  • ALESSI IS THE BEST TROMBONE IN THE WORLD, WHEN ALESSI PLAYED IN SLIDE FACTORY 2009 THE NEW TROMBONE COLECTIVE AND VAN RIJEN WAS LIKE A CHILDRENS AND ALESSI THE TEACHER, NOBODY PLAY LIKE THIS MEN, HIS SOUND, ARTICULATION, SINGING TROMBONIST, AMAZING CLEANER, NEVER DO TWA, TWA,

  • Was he sick? His tone is a little weak at the beginning. He's still a much MUCH better player than I.

  • Who do you think you are Critiquing Joe Alessi? How stupid could you be?

  • holy crap my private teacher plays on that same horn!

  • @MrFunkygibbons Uh yes it's Joe's signature model with Edwards. So does mine.

  • I don't understand how his sound never gets an edge to it. Even his low B flat partial has this nice core sound to it.

  • I would like to watch his eyebrows while he plays Mackey's Harvest trombone concerto.

  • how could 4 people dislike this ............... btw anyone notice the leaking spit ? i really hate when that happens :)

  • @xmuzzyx20 What I hate is when sax players in a big band tell you to fix the leak when it's only two or three drops left over from the last time you emptied it!

  • @matthewharris065 thats when you use the 2nd function of the trombone slide, (poking idiots in front of you ahahhahah) :D

  • how could 4 people dislike this ...............

  • That is one big ass tie (when he bows at the end you can see it hang)

  • any idea what company made that trombone? That doesnt seem like a simple f- attachment.

  • @ddarkness1627 Yea this trombone is made by Edwards and its Alessi's model called the T396-A.

  • that room is really dead.....or your camera takes away all the resonance from the piano and trombone. but either way.....this is still a very nice performance

  • 7:03 Anyone else see him input those cheat codes?... I believe it was Right eyebrow, Left eyebrow, Right eyebrow, blink, blink, frown, blink, right eyebrow, left eyebrow.

  • All senior citizens should have life alert. Hahaha jk. To the trombone playing. I really can not say anything because I'm no where near your talent so that leaves me to say that it was amazing. Also liked bollaro. :0

  • @swear1down1blud i don't know....i guess it was just the fact that joe addressed me.

  • tell that man to stop hacking the trombone!

  • There is a purpose to the eyebrow dancing... they affect the muscles in your face! it relaxes them or makes them more tense

  • o alessi e muito bom mas as frases do jorgen e bem melhor nessa musica mas tem coisas que soam bem com o alessi e outras que soam bem com jorgen

  • do you think a freshman could do this? i want to try!?!?!?

  • Haha he even does his little breath then a quick nod at the end of the piece. I saw him in Richardson Texas a while back and he did that after everything he played. That's great

  • and not even a hint of a ring left above his lips

  • @mobile507 you should see him in real like. he has the deepest ring ive ever seen.

  • @martytrombone Well... I agree with that Jörgen is a great musician. But much higher level.. no, I don't think so... More over! In my opinion, Alessi has better technique. I guess better stamina as well. Oh.. I see, you meant this performance of Ropartz.. Okay, so many countries ,so many customs.. Anyway, to me, Mr. Alessi is the non plus ultra..

  • @kovaxtromb THIS MEN IS THE BEST IS INCREDIBLE TROMBON PLAYER.

  • @martytrombone i might have to agree with you. Alessi is absolutely amazing, but I LOVE Jorgen van Rijen's version of this!

  • @martytrombone Rijen's performance will have been different because he was trained in a different country with different styles. Both are world class and very hard to compare on the same level.

  • @Joebone18974 You are totally right. I also said Alessi is still top class, that means world class to me, and I think nobody will deny that. But I still find that Alessi's way of playing IN THIS VIDEO doesn't go together with this piece as good as how Van Rijen does it. The reason why I said it in such a sharp way is because I find that Joe Alessi seems to have become the 'trombone-god' for a lot of Americans, and that his performance at itself doesn't play a role anymore in their reaction.

  • @martytrombone alessi is the best trombone in the world, when alessi played in slide factory 2009 the new trombone colective and van rijen was like a childrens and alessi the teacher, nobody play like this men sound, articulation, singing tromboneis amazing cleaner, never play twa, twa.

  • @martytrombone Not every performance can be your best. :) I have a lot of respect for Jorgen but Joe still holds in my view as the best trombonist on earth.

  • @martytrombone maybe this particular recording. but alessi is 90 times the player that jorgen is bro.

  • It looks like he's sight-reading the music because his eyebrows periodically go up like "wow, didn't expect that" o.O

  • what kind of valve does he use?

  • @XiaoShuaiGe9 He's using the Rotax valve by Willson, it comes standard on the T-396A

  • @s3si1u of course it comes standard... the T-396A i his signature model =P

  • @pellekopp uh yeah...because i didn't just say that in the same post you replied to

  • @XiaoShuaiGe9 It's a Rotax valve and it's on an Edwards Alessi Model

  • i envy this man

  • The E flat at the end... son of a bitch!

  • what a boring piece!! great playing though.

  • สุดยอด

  • there's water dropping from his spit valve @ 0:59 :)

  • love the slight adjustment of the tuning slide a little after 2:00 lol! it doesn't even look like he moved it hahah! oh well! awsome player love listening to everything he plays! anyone know where I can get this piece at????

  • I know I'm not going to be liked for saying this but I think he could have maintained interest by taking the allegro a touch quicker... But don't get me wrong Joe Alessi is definitely one of my idols...

  • Near the beginning, at 1:25, it sounds like he almost flubs a note, which is cool because it means he's not perfect, but he's getting there. I think all musicians need to realize that perfection is impossible at some point in their career.

    Great player. Bravo, Joe!

  • Amazing! Were can i find the sheet music??

    2:07-2:20!!

  • @seazk303 Hickeys.com has everything.

  • One person missed the "Like" button as they were drooling in bewilderment of how amazing this man is, haha.

  • You can tell if he wants the note to sit high or low based on his eyebrows. Awesome!

  • Personalmente la interpretación que más me gusto de ésta pieza fue la de Jörgen Van Rijen. Pero Alessi tiene lo suyo. :D

  • this is an amazing solo of Joseph Alessi , the best trombone player in the world !!!! Alessi , Ladies and Gentleman

  • OH JOE!!! *squeel*

  • awesomeness!

  • It was never apparent to me how much his eyebrows moved until I saw him at ETW, and now I'm convinced that they are quite entertaining to watch.

  • @eddimull if you went to his masterclass during ETW last year...i'm the guy who asked about bass trombone slurs...

i'm still facepalming myself to this day that i embarrassed myself in front of joe alessi

  • @eddimull Yeah its like each note he plays its a new eyebrow Pose , it is entertaining. :P

  • @eddimull Thanks... now I can't stop watching them...

  • @tbonesfa Lol, sorry.... how's Deb Scott?

  • @eddimull I talked to her the other day, and she's doing pretty well... trombone studio is as strong as ever.
