@the0scarlet0piper He doesn't undermine it; he just starts a discussion about it (I personally like it; it makes the video more informative). It also helps get through the reflex of 'oh, this card's amazing', and think of EVERY possibly card (to make a better choice).
WTH? Red is Megatog without a doubt. Drafting this gave me my name. We are tied? I cast megatog, equip with greeves and swing for 30. I am winning? Cast megatog and equip then swing for 30. I'm loosing? Cast megatog blah blah blah 30 damage. Go home with packs.
White is Akroma.
Blue is right.
Black is Stronghold Overseerer.
Green is wild mongrel. Overrun is the better card but then you cut them out of green so they wasted 2nd pick.
Artifact is Cursed scroll and the land is also correct.

@4TensCakes yeah, they should have named a gold card as well. glare of subdual was quite stupid in triple R. then again rith was good, too. i think gold would have been the hardest unless theres a really obvious answer im not thinking of atm
You were not at a PTQ that had a beta rochester draft, I call BS on that. Drafting really started with Mirage, the Pro Tour scene wasn't until around 4th edition.
Their have been some side events with Beta drafting, but no large event has ever been done were you could open Black Lotus.
Jitte is absolutely awesome and should get the best artifact, BUT fodder cannon in the core set was ridiculous for all of it's combat shanagans (damage on the stack) as well easily my 2nd choice.
Red should have had kumono from champions of kamigawa mentioned since his impact was absurd. On that note the dragons in that format were very powerful as well... With the question of would I first pick a dragon over every common/uncommon pick one pack one in kawigawa it would be an easy yes.
Green Master of the Wild Hunt just won the game if it stayed in play for more then two turns, Garruk Wildspeaker in Lorwyn made 3/3's (in a block with a ton of small creatures) and gives you Overrun. Also Troll Ascetic is pretty unbeatable.
Also you didn't mention Gold/Mutlicolor/hybrid cards my vote would be for Bit Blast the card was absolutley absurd at instant speed would blow out all sorts of combat math and sometimes hit another removal spell or another cascade.
@scarred50 in Urza's destiny, treachery had far more impact in draft that Jace had in worldwake. Jace may be a solid cumulative tempo card if you've got a good board presence but his real place is in constructed where you can really abuse his abilities and get something meaningful from the tempo. treachery directly impacted the board and had the added bonus of being free to cast, leaving you open to cast more creatures or a counterspell, or some draw. it's a tour de force in draft.
@purklefluff I see your point. Plus since treachery was a rare and jace is a mythic, treachery showed up more often. However, I just think i would prefer jace in a ZEN ZEN WWK than a treachery in a urza block draft, just because jace can protect himself with unsummon; once you stabilize the board with some blockers or removal, he provides constant card advantage; and then when your opponent runs out of gas, you can lock out their draw step. Idk i never drafted any urza so i cant compare the 2
@wiscODy garruk wasn't as good in his set(s) as wild mongrel was in odyssey. although left unanswered he is a cumulative threat (as with most planeswalkers), as with any planeswalker he is a very bad play if you're behind on the board, because he just dies to basic attacking. thus he just doesn't have the range or versatility to be a game-breaking card in most situations. at worst he gets countered, bolted or is just a 3/3 for 4 mana. at best he can increase your lead and solidify your bard.
@purklefluff at worst Wild Mongrel gets countered or bolted... sure you can protect him from a bolt by discarding two cards, but then you are down two cards. And Wild Mongrel can be countered too so I don't see your point. And a 3/3 for 4 mana that generates card or tempo advantage is fine (see skinrender/scrapmelter). At best, he wins you the game by himself, not just "increase your lead." I don't know if he's the best green card ever, but better than Mongrel.
Well i never play oddissey limited but i think garruks is a better topdeck, he can protect himself with a beast token and end the game in two turns....
im still think in garruk as a best limited card tha mongrel.
@wiscODy he can protect himself, yes... but in doing so he loses loyalty counters and cannot hit his ultimate.
if i was to play a turn two mongrel, and you a turn three (with llanowar elves) garruk.... you'd already be behind on the board... turn four or five garruk? no chance..... and as i added other creatures to my line-up you'd be hard pushed to fight back from your position on the back foot. god forbid i have more than one!
granted, tarmogoyf is better, but wild mongrel is a beast.
Skullclamp was good, but in Mirrodin Block Draft, it did not necessarily win games by itself. A deck of Umezawa's Jitte, 22 random creatures, and 17 lands could win just about every game that it had an unanswered Jitte.
Overwhelming Stampede is a good card, but there are time when playing that card does not ensure a game win. I think the best Green card would take over a game better than Stampede.
@SaoPauloOrBust I think everyone who played competitively in mirrodin sort of wants to forget that cycle ever existed, specially after what it did to standard.
@alexgcuevas depends on the deck. if you're playing weenie with overrun or stampede to finish the you're going to want the classic overrun instead because all of your creatures are 1/1 or 2/2. in many cases stampede can be better but overrun is fixed which leaves you less open to shenanigans like someone doom blading your biggest creature.
I just want to add though for Green, that an honourable mention might have been Blastoderm. I never played Nemesis draft but he had to be ridiculous right?
i dont know, im i've only been playing since Ravinica. All i can say is, considering the cards available in the odysese set, i'd go RG or RGW with Overrun as my win condition.
Wild Mongrel is obviously the pick. It's soooo ridiculous. Hard to remove, enables all your spells, gets big for nothing and drops on turn 2. Stupid. So stupid.
I guess Chapin never played with Thrashing Wumpus or Bitterblossom in draft.
Bitterblossom is absolutely backbreaking. Living Death is fine, but it isn't all that and a bag of chips.
For their white picks, they never mentioned Mageta =(
And for blue, is Treachery really better than Mind Over Matter? I never drafted Destiny, but I seem to remember Mind Over Matter being completely bonkers. Opposition, too.
I drafted back to back Comet Storms at the big Zen/Wwk/Rise 50 person Rochester Rotisserie draft at DragonCon. I had picks 43 and 58. That card should have been taken before that. 2 Comet Storms! I got an audible reaction from Todd Anderson when I picked the second one, something along the lines "Fucking shit!" Good times.
What about Drana? She was so ridiculously dominating if you looked at the stats. She does what chapin was talking about from living death and pretty much does basically the same as profane command.
The power level of WIld Mongrel destroys the late game power of Overrun, often times games don't last long enough for over run to be cast. Just in my experience (i never played pro level back then)
wtf dark ritual is the best black card ever - and they don't even mention it
