  • if i wer teachin a person how to jump for the first time i would use a smaller jump...

  • Yer at least she knows how!

  • @Ashelylovesmakeup123 I agree and she needed to keep her 2point longer after the jump

  • no offence but learn 2 point not half seat

  • Not canoe

  • I mean I can now.......

  • Good video

  • @CuteRobyn I canoe sit trot and canter really well I'm still learning with the jumping....I only get 1 lesson a week!! I usually click my tongue I'm getting better at jumping...slowly, thank you!!

  • I'm going to a horse riding camp this April, I don't know how to jump but that's what they mainly do in the in-door arena, so I don't want to be left out. They'll probably teach me how to, this video has helped a little but these jumps are massive.. well, you know what I mean, I'm only a beginner. I watched the cantering video, I have been doing it wrong all this time! But, now I know how to canter good so can anyone give me advice in jumping in a simpler way? I'm only 12. Thanks:)

  • @CuteRobyn10 It can help if you have a coach or someone who knows more what they are doing to help you. Basically you go into two point and bring your hands up on the horses neck, heels down, look ahead of you and where you want to go, squeeze with your legs about a metre away before going over the jump while entering two point position , up you go, and always be relax.

But deffinatly get informed in getting a coach.

  • @Ridingismylifeee , I used to ride a lot when I was little, but I had an accident with horses and didn't touch one for about 2 years.... But I have been riding now for about 2 months and can canter ( finally! ) and flops out in my seat in a around 30cm jump. And you?

  • No one ever taught me how to jump lol. One day they just stuck jumps out and were like "Jump it." I still have no idea if my two-point is any good or not :P

  • your horse is verrry prettty!(:

  • Use a martingale and put a log on the ground and walk, trot, canter

  • @expertvillage I am a beginner at jumping and Horse Riding and i need help with my sitting trot, canter and jump i always fly out of my seat with my canter and cant keep still- what should i do?

With my trot i cant do it because i am so used to normal trotting. and with the jump i sometime fall out of my seat and headbutt the horses neck- what should i do???? HELP ME!!

  • @n3hihelen Ride without stirrups, even bareback. If you take lessons, ask your instructor to put you on the lunge line and let you ride without stirrups and/or without reins to develop an independent seat. It's hard work, but if you keep at it and don't give up, it really pays off. Also, try to get as much time in the saddle as you can. It's all about developing muscles and feel. How long have you been riding, just curious?

  • @n3hihelen Oh, and post without stirrups and two-point without stirrups. You'll feel it for days. :)

  • @n3hihelen Um.. don't ever jump before you don't know how to sit-trot or canter?.. If you start getting nervous, take a deep breath.. Trust the horse. The horse will know if you're afraid and the horse will also get afraid. Be confident, and if you're not confident, build your confidence. Practice all the basics and controlling until you're very comfortable. I also find it helps to push the horse by making a noise, or repeating a word (example: 'hup' or 'giddup')

  • i have been jumping for a while now and I think this video would help a lot of people who are unsure of how not to jump. It is difficult in the beginning but with these videos all you beginners out there will learn in no time these type of videos helped me when I was younger :) good luck to all you beginners and to your horse! ;)

  • i am a beginner and im only just learning how to do a 2 point position and im having trouble doing it correctly, i know how to do a few things but soon i am having my 3rd lesson and im cantering for the first time, is their any tips u can give me personally to help me to do it properly, especially with the two point position :)

  • @katiecousins87 Stay relax. Don't tense up and trust your horse.

  • ive only been riding since march an i lease a horse an im jumping. it depends when your instrictor thinks your ready.

  • Id NEVER EVER jumped and i am a YEAR or something on horse riding!!! An dik got a friend, she is just a month on horse riding and she ALLREADY JUMPD!!!

  • By the way I've been riding since i was 2. It doesn't matter if you dont canter away from the jump you don't have to!

  • Luv the angle at 1:11

  • How high is the jump You were jumping? :) Thank You!

  • you never want to go into a two point to early.... your hose will most likely refuse

  • maybe she should shut up in the beginning and jump than talk!!!!

  • she makes everything look easy lol but she cant do 2-point

  • @acvideos10 and hands need to be up when on flat and forwards over the jump to avoid ramming the horses mouth on landing

  • Beautiful horse, there's great communication between the two of you

  • What a beautiful horse! And the video was really good

  • i am a beginner jumper. my instructer never told me how to do a correct two point position. after watching these videos i have learned so much. anyone who says this girl is not a good rider does not know how to ride a horse correctly. so learn how to ride and then you may comment i any way. horse jjumping is very hard at first. i know exactly what it feels like to be a beginner.

  • We all have different tricks to ride. Some learn and get told to start your two- point early, some get told not to. We need to respect each others views, and calm down. The point of this video was to give a few tips on how to jump, not barking orders. Everyone needs to focus on what we have in common: the love for horses and jumping.

  • i think if you had more fold over the jump your jumping would be gorgues even tho your 2 point is solid and beautiful may i admit. i just thought i would tell you just from my experences . i also love how you said get into your to point early thank you someone with a brain im so sick of people saying hit your 2 point right over the jumping this is incredibly incorrect it is better for you and your horse if you are in a half seat potion and hit your really soild 2 point right over the jump.

  • i dont think you should 2 point a few feet away from the jump because the horse could mistake that as "oh jump now" and take a long spot which may result you on the ground

  • @OnlineHorse1 true, but for your first jump, you should be on a horse that will most likely not refuse. And you should still be squeezing in your 2 point. And before you start jumping, you should make sure you have good balance so if he/she refuses, you won't fall as easy

  • I got told NOT to go into your 2 Point to early in case the horse refuses.

  • just letting everyone know expertvillage does NOT reply to comments

  • this is really great :D im so jealous of your horse! beautiful

  • wow i will folo that thanks keep up your riding

  • @E14Pinky she's half seating

  • wow you two a very organized together(: beautiful.

  • Why does Expert Village have to try an be an expert at EVERYTHING?

  • @Ishtiama they don't. they're just showing you how to do it correctly because they know how.

  • 1:17

  • @trizan123

    what about it?

  • @GypsyVanner24 Nothin, lol :) You wont get it if you already didn't!

  • @trizan123

    please tell me :)

  • @GypsyVanner24 LOL, okay it wont work probably but she was jumping at that...but it has to be a certain time part of it, just pause it when she is in the air jumping and you will get it, lol, I know, random! :)

  • i love the horse and you look great on him! I do recommend to all the new jumpers that you want to start with a crossrail. (two rails that make an X) it teaches new jumpers to jump the center of the jump. also, it is easier to trot over rather than trotting a vertical.

  • What is your horses name?

  • for an american she isnt half bad

  • @BornToLead1000 What is that suppose to mean?

  • @IRaceBarrels Americans usually destroy english style and shes stayed quite original to traditional english rding

  • @BornToLead1000 thats a little harsh... Oh well we're still the best western riders. In what way do we distroy it. I havent riden english since i was 12 because i find it borin gand stuck up looking, but i would like to know the different ways different countries ride.

  • @IRaceBarrels Go you for being the best that your country is meant to be ? Most people cant get their heads around the study and intellect that goes into english riding.

English riding is quite regimented and takes years to perfect. americans dont tend to have what we call a "seat" usually their legs are everywhere, no hats, no proper equipment and tend to "stand" in their gaits

  • @BornToLead1000 That would be a half seat. You don't have to gear your horse up with a bunch of leather and chains in order to ride if your horse doesn't need it. Fyi swinging legs is not an "american" thing is an issue that EVERYONE goes through. Helmets are a choice.

  • @WindRunnerProduc Were did i mention leather and chains? i never said it was, i said Americans tend to stand in their gaits which is quiet common when you look through youtube vids. Helmets are essential! People are not invincible! its the most basic thing that anyone learns is before you even get on a horse is to make sure you and your horse are as safe as possible!

The rider in this video is not up to standard and should not be setting an example

  • @BornToLead1000 I agree with you on the helmet issue, but that is the riders choice. Not the laws of English riding. The correct term for standing in the saddle is a Half seat. This will occur mor often with Hunter Shows. A half seat is used for less effort in jumping to help it look mroe graceful. My guess is your one of the riders who sit way back in the saddle and don't move over the jump? Thats your riding. By the way you said most videos on youtube have riders standing up?

  • @BornToLead1000 How do you they live in America? Are you jumping to conclusions? Also, you need to be looking at the type of style the riders are using. yes there is an english saddle, but htere are diffrent styles of correct position for diffrent riding styles. Like Hunter jumping, jumpers, Eq jumping, High jump. eventers, and cross-country.

  • @WindRunnerProduc From reading peoples about mes and their home pages i know they are from america, just as you did by looking through my profile ;)

From being a BHS qualified, i do not require any more teaching on the matter thanks - however, i think Americans do not ride "English" as you call it - i think you ride your adaptation of it. Youve also added more terminology than people would ever use here. People have a seat, a proper one and we minorly adapt it for each event we do. If you look

  • @WindRunnerProduc at how people who ride english from the start and its our natural way of riding, youll find it very very different to your adaptation of it.

  • @BornToLead1000 Every riding diciplen takes years to perfect. not just english. It sounds to me that American has just developed a different style of riding english than europe. I'm sorry that Americas lack of hats upsets you but many people are pro helmet from what i see. I have always been told I have a great seat. My last trainer was trying to get me to do saddleseat because how i sit wasnt working for gaming. The rest of the world dosent ride western like Americans they ride it like english.

  • @BornToLead1000 I disagree

  • @WindRunnerProduc With what part ?

  • @BornToLead1000 How american's are ruining english riding.

  • 1:17 :)

  • She needed a bigger release, in my opinion, but then again I'm used to my pokey little Thoroughbred :)

  • beautiful horse :o and this video was actually helpful! i was wondering why my instructor asked me to get in my 2 point before the approach... thanks :)

  • I'm sort of a newbie, I can canter and do every gait fine, posting on the trot and going with the canter, I want to jump, so the two point is heels down, leaning forward, while standing up?

  • @TyrannosaurusBataar ya thats for your position you also have to stear your horse to the jump so that they would not refuse

  • Is she pushing on the horses neck with her hands, cause it looks like she is? Beautiful horse by the way :)

  • When I canter, my butt does not bounce. It's planted. Hers bounced up and down. Is what I'm doing wrong?

  • @RelayandMe no. she is using a dressage saddle

  • @paintmareluv6 So I'm right?

  • You are soooo professional! I'm following now because I think you can help me learn a lot. I've started jumping already, but I think your descriptions may really help. : )

  • @gemtwistable thank you for your help [= I will try that [=

  • @alwayslovingstorm u dont know wat riding is shes amazing dummy

  • you are an AMAZING jumper! you make it look so easy! i have only been going a year and a half and i can jump only 2.9 foot i wish i could jump like you x you are so like quiet and your horse is really well behaved x

  • I think that the jump was a bit big for a first jump :)

  • can any1 gimi more tips in jumpin

becuse my first eva compnis in two days and im really nervous

and its a really big comp

    PLZ SOME1 HELP ME

  • I dont like expertvillage but this video was good (:

  • I wish my horse was as well behaved as yours! :(

  • I am very nervus for my first jump. done walk, trot and canter now its gettin scarier! :(

  • @mollymooshine its so fun trust me just go for it you wont look back :)

  • @mollymooshine i would recommend just trotting over poles, then a cavelletti at it's lowest height. Your horse will probably just step over it, and you will get the experience and confidence you need. As for your first REAL jump, it's kind of bumpy but i found it helpful to get into two-point a few steps before the jump, as she ^^^ said. Other then that, the first jump is the hardest, but once you get over it, it's a LOT of fun!

  • she is actually a very good rider, except she doesnt keep her upper half still :P and @xxBrokeScreamxx don't be scared, the same happened to me, and I didnt ride for two years, you have to tell your self that the horse waas just being silly, and that part of riding is falling xxxx

  • hi [= i have been riding for about 12 years now and recently fell of my horse (not for the first time) while jumping. falling hasnt ever scared me before but now i feel worried about jumping again for some reason. can anyone give me any tips please?? thank you x

  • @xxBrokeScreamxx i know exactly how you feel! my instructor recommended that I get comfortable with trotting over poles and cavelletti's to get my confidence back, and once I did that, to go over a very small jump on a steady horse or a packer; anything to regain your confidence

  • i love the angles they record this vid on!

  • you are a really good rider!

  • @1Girl1Horse1Dream thankyou for your advice I'll be sure to test it out when I'm riding next xx

  • i freek out hven jumping

  • i need help, when i try to do a jump i go into canter and then just before the jump he goes into trot/jog and i keep on kicking tapping ect please help me and give me some tips x

  • @lucyluuuable I have some tips. if you just kick and tap him he wont understand you when you approach the jump you need to tap him when you know that he has seen the jump and when you feel the slighest slowing down you need to not kick but tightly squeeze him with every other stride. once your a few feet away from the jump get in your 2-point position and squeeze somemore,he should continue to go at the same pace. after youve done it a few times without problems then you can 2-point regular

  • @lucyluuuable you could also try carrying a crop. i've found that just holding one in my hand encourages my horse foward

  • She is a good rider, but you shouldn't move your hands. (that's what I heard)

  • @JSWIZZL3 as you go over the jump the horse needs space to stretch his neck out so he can throw his bodyweight forward. also, if you have your hands in you lap over the jump you can become unbalanced and the sudden movement will throw you and therefore your horse out of rhythm potentially causing a knocked down fence or even a fall x

its when your riding on the flat that you kep you hands still (: x

  • @JSWIZZL3 thats what i thought but over the jump if u don't move ur hands then u can catch the horses mouth and they can freak out. personal experience :)

  • @JSWIZZL3 She needs shorter stirrups, and to keep her upper body still. She tips forward before the jump, which is what's bringing her lower leg back and making her appear to fall forward. If you stop the video around 47 you'll see how she jumps up the horse's neck. Also, you need to release, especially as you're learning to jump. You start off with a crest release (& then move on to a more advanced release once you have your position and balance mastered) to avoid catching the horse's mouth

  • @CanadianMusicChick I know you're supposed to move your hands when you jump, I just worded it wrong. I meant that her arms wobble a bit too much. :)

  • @CanadianMusicChick how high should my hands be when I'm jumping a small jump then, say about 18 inches?

  • @gemtwistable It depends. If you're just learning to jump, then a bigger release is always better. However, it does depend on the specific horse and how they use themselves.

  • I like the video but new riders need to know to look up and that when the horses front hooves touch the ground to sit up

  • I really need to learn how to 2 point. :P Like when im jumping i have my arms and hands like under me Dx & im just horrible Dx Help! xP

  • @TheAbbBoo when you're first learning to two- point you should put your hands about half way up your horses neck. If they're right under you, then you're not keeping the correct contact with your horse's mouth

  • @gemtwistable Okay. :] Thanks alot!! I'll try next time I go jumping.

  • I liked it she was very informative

  • your a amzing rider! i love the horse ur riding!

  • guys, hate to break it to you, but you can't learn to ride a horse from watching a youtube video...even if the rider's really good

  • @SmallShadowOfDoubt BUT you can learn what to do so its easier in real life rather then just doing the jump a fail in real life

  • @SmallShadowOfDoubt yeah like if your nervous to have your first jump you can at least get an idea of what to do, it can be a confidence boost to watch videos and work out what people are doing right and wrong.

  • When i was taught i learned not to go into position early as if your horse stops you will fall off.... Im not sure if its right but I was just wondering..

But the video is really good and I love your position and horse!(:

  • @KayleighJesterDylan your right but if your actually going over a jump and your not ready, its more comfortable for the horse for you to be in a two point before than to be left behind over the jump :)

  • @KayleighJesterDylan that makes a lot of sense, i never thought about that! for me, when i learned how to jump i learned on a packer, so it was more for my benifit then anything else. learning when to go into two point can be hard for new jumpers who don't know how to count strides

  • this video was actually really helpful, and your horse is gorgeous :]

  • I have always loved the videos this girl makes. They are soo good and it's very helpful. Thanks so much. :)

  • I know how you feel, my horse did the same but here is a few tips on getting your confidence up :

First of all head back to square one, trot over poles. You may feel that this is a waste of time but it's not. When you trot over the pole go into your jumping position and look straight ahead. Do this and you will super confident going over poles, next move on to a cross pole jump and again just relax! Of course if you show anxiety your horse know and will refuse. Head up to the jump, kick etc

  • @horsecrazy8900 yeah thats true

  • I think every one who says she is a terrible rider needs to take some lessons. She is actually very good. Plus, all of us who ride know that riding is much easier said then done. Even top riders like George Morris have photos of them doing exactly what they tell other riders not to do. We all chose a very difficult sport to compete in, and you can't be perfect all the time.

  • @AJillityFarm Please put a video of yourself on the net then i will give my comments.

  • @AJillityFarm great comment u are absolutly correct

  • @AJillityFarm being an equestrian isnt like other sports. there ae more wrong ways to do things and it is alot harder to get things right! People who say she is a bad rider either know nothing about horses, are bad riders , or are grand prix riders who are perfect but i doubt it. Your right i am tired of crude comments. your so right!

  • I used to love jumping, and I would always go over the jump. But now for some reason i keep chickening out and the horse always refuses because i get too scared. I dont know why im all of a sudden scared, is there any way to get my confidence back up? Ive "accidently" jumped over some poles, He just thought that the pole was a jump and jumped it like it was 2 or 3 feet! I was fine! I always get really scared just before, can anyone help me?

  • I just started jumping a while ago and I need some help. What is a proper time to get into the two-point? My leg keeps sliding back when I get into my two point and what can I do to fix that. Also, my bum keeps hitting the saddle so am I coming down to soon? Any other tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • yesyerday i did my first jump ever and i dont take classes :D

  • Your 2 Point is horrible. I hope you know all you're doing is standing up in the saddle and leaning forward a bit. That's NOT a 2 Point.

Also, like ginita105 said, beginners are not supposed to be jumping verticals. They either jump crossrails for groundpoles. Only an intermediate jumper are expirianced enough to jump LOW verticals.

  • Jumping position is bad over first jump but good over the one she canters

  • isnt it better to canter a horse to a jump of that height?

  • @jumpersforever a good horse should be able to trot any virticle he/she can canter :)

  • @jumpersforever i was thinking that 2

  • hhey

whats the difference between 2 point and 3 point

  • @SeaMonkeysLikeTea there is no such thing as 3 point

  • @Hoovesonmyheart34 it is actaully. a 3 point is when you can draw a straight line from the shoulder, armbow and heel. sry im not good at english

  • i just dont get on thing, why canter away from the jump??

  • @palomino674 it is best to canter away from a jump so the horse knows to carry on, as if you were doing a course, otherwise it can be hard to get impulsion for the next jump. think of the 5 points of jumping : approach, take off, suspense, landing and get away .

  • @TheStormrider98 thanx sooooooo much! :) i will remember that the next time i jump! :)

  • Is it just me or is the canter DEAD SLOW i mean im a kid (not allowed to tell age) and I can walk, trot, canter and gallop and soon i will be jumping! I cant sit around all day and watch videos and rubbish posture DEAD SLOW canters and weird jiggy - jumps! SO THERE! THUMBS UP IF U AGREE!

  • @lemurfan123 The speed of the canter doesn't necessarily matter. It's the power behind the canter that determines how well the horse will jump. A nice collected canter will jump more efficiently as the horse is engaging its hind quarters. If you let the horse go fast without collection, the jump will most likely end up messy. :)

  • @lemurfan123 Yeah well.... I was "cantering" on a pony at my stable and the speed was a gallop but the stride (rythm) was a canter. :D

  • @lemurfan123 Hey, you need to stop being so cocky! Shes clearly been riding a lot longer than you, she doesn't look like a showjumper either, her and her horse look like a dressage pair. There is no need to boast on a video like this, it was uploaded for beginners. Not for cocky 11 year olds to hate on.

  • Mara Keith Hunter will not see your advice and will not follow it if she did. I believe she is a little bit of a smart rider?

  • Oh my god!

Nobody should trot a horse to a jump that is higher then the horses knees!

And taht was a major sloppy landing for the trotting thingy.

    BAD vid sorry :(

  • @GothicHorse13 it depends how high the jump is..... and besides apparently the horse was ok wiht it the horse jumping was great and so i dont really like exspertvillage because there not exsperts but shes better than all the rest of the exspirtvillage horse riders

  • People have different riding styles. And its hard to teach something that takes so much time and work to get right. I think she is a good rider. Every rider has their habits and methods as do barns. I have been riding for many years and have just started up jumping a couple months ago. As a beginner, approaching the jump at 2 point has given me confidence and better form over the fence. either take her advise or dont. The best way to learn is to take lessons. There is no reason to be rude.

  • Awesome! Thanks for the pointers! But don;t get into a 2 point before a jump, but for BEGINNERS it's good to get ready, thanks!

  • actaully its terrible to get into two point before the jump.. it encorages the horse to run out... also thats more or a quarter seat, not a two point...

  • You neeeeddd to find better distances my god! And give with your hands over the jump. its pretty ugly You need some work. Dont enter into any equation class in the near future.

  • you dont fold properly and plus you dont want you reins to short the horse will fall backwards!you basically threw your arms forward them yanked them back and you need to leanthen your reins:) im just giving advice:D<3

  • Ahem noodle arms if you move into 2point before the jump and the horse stops at the jump you will go right over his head. And move your arms up more at the canter and not flopping around like noodle arms

  • DUCK ARMS. gross.

  • i don't get how people are saying she has bad form she looks great! i don't get one bit how this is bad. And she might canter away because when your in the class you never ever want your horse to trot so y'd teach it to trot when it lands?

  • I feel like there is potential for a lot of good advice in these videos, but they just don't go into detail enough. You don't canter away from the jump to teach your horse to look for the next one, that doesn't make any sense, you canter away because after jumping that's what the horse's natural movement wants to do, by the way.

And everyone should stop being rude. Thanks.

  • you fucking idiot. you basically told everyone you just ride up to the jump and they pop over it. you forgot to explain the counting and all the dynamics.

  • Comment removed

  • okay hoever is riding, you are an AWESOME rider, dont listen to the other people. ya look fine, im gonna use ur advice at my next lesson, But, cantering away from the jump is not what we normally do @ my barn, unless we canter into it, but everyone is defferent and u are seriously awesome dont listen to them!!

  • haha x] I love how everyone fancies themselves a critic.

  • her posture isnt that bad , stop being rude

  • OMG THIS LADY IS LIKE THE WORST IVE EVER SEEN. BLEH. HORRIBLE POSITION. she shouldn't have "how to" videos because the only thing people will learn from her are bad habits.

  • @ride4evahorses If you think she's the worst you've ever seen go watch my videos :)

  • no don't get into position before the jump,if your horse refuses you will fall off. There was no oomph at all, that is not the proper jumping position. you don't have to canter away. do not show people because people will pick up bad habits from you. tbh your shit.

  • This girl is just one of those showers that sit on a horse thats amazingly good and the horse does it all. Yeaaa your dreaming. Im one of those people who get on a horse and start working and seeing the diffrence and changing my transitions to the way the horse responds best at. You dont just sit there and look pretty, theres such this as moving your legs and talking to your horse. You dont have to canter away from the jump at all. And next time dont pull on your rains before you jump at a trot

  • I want your horse!

  • you're not doing two-point right, your hands are too far apart when you're "teaching" ppl how to do it LOOSEN YOUR REINS FOR PETE'S SAKE WHILE TROTTING YOUR POOR HORSE! i really hope you dont canter away from the jumps in shows, cuz ur not supposed to do that . 1:20, wrong lead learn to do real riding

  • it's really quite hilarious reading comments from other people, honestly all the criticism, save it, no one really gives a shit. All u people commenting that u know how to ride better, that's great, but seriously no one cares...

  • um excuse me seriously ever taken actual riding lessons? no obiously you need to put your reins foarword when you jump so they dont refuse and so they have room for their neck

  • ehem. chicken arms...and shes practically STANDING in her stirrups. this is a no no :PP

  • @PonyLuver27 she needs to fold more into the jump :)
