it is not a scam. it's value pricing. a scam would be if you sent in your gold and they never send it back or you got no money for it.

He's out to make a profit, yes. he also has overhead. the local jeweler isn't in the business of only smelting scrap gold. his overhead is there regardless of you walking in with a bag of jewelry. But the online guys aren't.
