  • @coveredexpress, English are Gaelic, Celtic, Angle, Jute, Saxon, Viking, Roman and Norman. The Scots were orginaly from Ireland but scots today are a mix of Scots, Gaels, Celts, Picts and Saxons

  • The bandsmen in saffron kilts are pipers from the Irish Guards

  • It's the Irish Guards, see my first post at the start of this thread for a full list of the massed pipes and drums. The contingent was split into two groups for the street parade, this is the first group, which consists of: 1 Scots, Dalhousie, Irish Guards, Capetown Highlanders and RAF Luchars. The parade was in Basel Switzerland as part of the Basel Tattoo. This band lead the highland dancers from South Africa, who can be seen at the end of the video. You can also see me in it too. ;)

  • Gives me goosebumps, respect.

    Greetings from Holland

  • I will not post again and "enable" this kind on crap that was thrown art me. I have blocked the toad, BigSmack, and Lady devine. And will now flush them from my miind like the refuse they (probably it) is. Go ahead ramble on....talk to the hand ..............you no longer exist.

  • Half of all the Scottish Islands are names in Old Norse. Only half in Gaelic. The MacDonalds emblem is a Viking Galley. Sure a lot of Pictish girls bore their offspring but who began dominating the culture and running the show. The Scandanavian influence in Scotland is still strong even today. Scotland is a hodgepodge of many cultures and has a history of violence up until the 1800's. Constant raids into the lowlands. Clan wars and division. The MacDonalds hung deBrus' tax colletors.LOL

  • Scotland was heavily dominated by the Normans during their conquests and latter by the English. Even the Gaelic language, as beautiful as it is, is not spoken other than in song and cultural efforts. Robert de Brus was a Norman (His very name is French). Sure his forefathers married into the royal Scottish line, it was a way TO GAIN POWER!!! Robert de Brus spoke French and the highlanders hated him. He tried to learn a few words of Gaelic to impress the MacDonalds but they laughed at him.

  • Now I'm tired of the filth and trash that has spewed from the mouth of this gestalt entity. Look it up for yourselves people and ignore the ramblings of a desperate fool trying to impress beyond his ability. BY THE WAY NIMROD, archaeologists have found spearheads in the U.S. predating the Asiatic land migartions that were used by tribes inhabiting what we now call France. I suppose if they still have enough of that gene pool, Sarkozy has the right to raid our eastern coast and settle in N.J.

  • Can anyone besides BigSmack and Lady Devine Aliases honestly tell me that those Picts living along the western shore gladly gave up their land to the "new settlers". IT WAS A FORM OF GENOCIDE. The majority of settlement of the North America was "peaceful" too. DOES THAT MEAN THE NATIVE AMERICANS WERE COOl WITH IT!!!! Not all violence takes place on an historical battlefield that's written down somewhere. Kill the chief and the braves are less effective. FACT.

  • Not only did the Goths breed with the Irish and their culture had a signifcant impact as their royal line led this expansion. But the Vikings and Angles so wore down the Picts, that the "Scots" as they were to be called could take over control. Who cares if the herdsmen and common folk were predominately Pictish and there were always crossings over the Irish sea with interbreeding. The Sioux and the Japenese are very closely genetically related. BIG DEAL. No noe likes to lose their land.

  • Teh Romans are the ones who called the raiders from Ireland the "scoti" in the 5th century. They RAIDED and committed genocide along eh scottish coast and then yes started "settling" buit were not the predominent culture until after 10th century and a massive amount of murder and mayhem. The Picts had there own language and culture and that was repressed by the Gaelic rule and control. Not only did the Goths breed with the Irish and were part of this INVASION.

  • Tree toad was discredited by gimmeheadpeace below. He comes back under some other aliases in some effort to support some crappy arguement that cultures are permanent and fixed based on a majority gene pool. What a lampoon! And the use of profanity leads me to believe this is either a punk teen or a very little man with an even smaller mind. He cusses on the internet so he can feel like a big man. Nothing I said was inaccurate and I never said the Welsh were Gaelic.

  • The quote below is from an historical narrative. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.

  • "The Scot's Then In Late B.C.-Early A.D. Started to Invade Pictland, .At first there was alot of war and bloodyshed and conquering, The Pict's were enventually betrayed by Kenneth MacApplin [His mother was A Pictish Princess, and Pictish Royalty went through The Mother's Line..as In Her son would be heir to yhe Throne] who became King Of Pict's and Scot's, who slayed the pict's in an event of getting them drunk then Impaling them under the sitting benches they sat on. Pictland then fell."

  • @TypingTreeFrog You're the one with the Rubbish! The Scots were actually driven off once and came back in after the Picts were weakened. Your nonsense about a peaceful group of settlers and everyone sharing the land in peace and harmoney is ridiculous. Learn your history Boyo and leave the fantasies behind. Hey everyone, don't listen to me or tree toad here. Just look it up on line. You'll disempower this type of "arguing my favorite cause" foolishness.

  • @Uzzite Well said! I have noticed that froggie-boy trolls YouTube commenting on the same crap!

  • Man, this video gives me chills up and down my spine to hear the pipes and the deep thud of the drums. I count myself among the luckiest and most blessed people on earth to be Scottish. Alba gu brath, indeed!

  • Comment removed

  • Love from Canada! The Essex and Kent proudly plays there pipes.

  • No, the first set of bagpipes were discovered in ancient Egypt around 3000 years ago. =P

  • Hi ya, im an Ex Irish Guardsman and Bagpiper. just to sort this out once and for all.lol Yes the pipers in saffron kilts, green jackets and curbeen (native Irish hat) with a St Patricks blue Plume over the right eye are Irish guards Pipers. The Drummer in the red tunic and bear skin again plume on the right of bear skin is an Irishguard Drummer. We represent all Irish regiments within the brigade of Guards (Queens Guards). And i thnk you will fine the Irish had Kilts and Pipes before Scotland.

  • The Troops in Orange Kilts with Green Jackets are from the Royal Irish Regiment. Certainly they are Crown Troops from Northern Ireland.

  • This isn't Irish at all! This is Scottish and always has been and always will be!!!

  • @Albainn1

If you look, the pipers with green tunics and saffron coloured kilts are the Irish Guards.

  • They aren't copying Scotland, their culture goes hand in hand with the scots, English, and the welsh, it's called "gaelic"

  • @t1t296 The Welsh are not Gaelic, they are Brythonic

  • The Welsh are among the oldest inhabitants of Britain and were not Gaelic. The Scots or Scoti were Goths who migrated to Ireland from Spain and after intermarrying with the Irish, invaded Pictland (now Scotland) arround the time of the Norman invasion. Your average Highlander is a mixture of Irish, Goth, Pict and Viking (deadly). The early dominant and most famous clan, the Donalds, used the Viking galley as thier royal symbol. Robert de Brus (a Norman) could not speak Gaelic.

  • Welcome home boys, it was a long day today, smooth drink with my LMG watching on the barracks' court. Haha royal regiment

    hura!

  • Spectacular. Watched it 4 time in sucsession

  • Where is this?

  • them timings are impeccable

  • Unusual high tempo for Scots/bagpipe bands.

  • i love this

  • nope im pretty sure they're american...cuz they're all fatasses..just like me..

    haha im kidding relax..

  • there the 1st Bn Royal Reg of Scotland. i know cos im in that pipe band. that was filmed in holland

  • @alan8516 That was filmed in Basel, Switzerland : /

  • lol, there the Royal Regiment Of Scotland, Look at the cap badge then google it.

  • there scots guards u can tell by the cap badge look at 28 secs into it n u see the cap badge i no coz ma mate is in the guards n im in the royal artillery

  • Definately Irish Guards not the Scots. The guards drummers have sets of 4 buttons on the front of their tunics and the pipers are wearing the distinctive Saffron Kilts.

  • @noskcajluap Bro they're both there, Irish and Scots Guards.

  • @McAndy89 They are not! That is definately the Drums and Pipes of the Irish Guards. There is a band wearing what looks very similar to a SG pipers unifrom but it is not them. You can tell this for sure because their drummers are wearing a highland uniform and the drummers in the SG pipe band wear drummers tunics, trousers and bearskins, just like the IG band you see here.

  • @noskcajluap Bro, the Irish Guards are there, you can see them because of their saffron kilts, but they are not representing everyone there. What so you think just because the drummers aren't wearing the uniform of a particular regiment, it automatically means they're from the Irish Guards? lol. The Irish Guards are there, I'm not disputing that, but there are other pipebands there to.

  • @McAndy89 Dear me, getting a little bored of explaining this! There looks to be 5 bands there. Closest to the camera, 1st Batt Royal Regiment of Scotland, then a band I do not recognise, The The Drums and Pipes of the Irish Guards, then another band I do not recognise, and on the far side, The Pipes and drums of the Royal Air Force.

There is NO Scots Guards in this video.

  • @noskcajluap hahaahaha, chill out bro :)

  • the first tune is not 100 pipers

and this isnt scots guards lol cos some of the pipers are from the band i play with (Oatlands park pipe band)

  • Mickey mouse tic toks I cannot think me any thing more shite

  • the irish have a proud history of losing wars. but i do love the music, stirs the soul.

  • irish what you on about these are scottish

  • Maybe he's referring to the Uster Scots of Northern Ireland?

  • The pipers in the saffron kilts are Irish - look like Irish Guards.

  • officially, there were no Irish Guards on Parade, however, the guys in saffron kilts could indeed be Irish Guards! too bad that the plume's colour isn't recognisable o the video: it should be a blue one...

  • Irish Rangers

  • it is recongnisable they are irish guards pipers

  • @Monarchist1952 They are the Irish Guards. You can tell by the drummers uniforms. Typical of the Brigade of Guards drummers.

  • The pipers in the Saffron Kilts are the Irish Rangers. The Irish Guards, are part of the HM Foot Guards and don't wear a kilt.

  • Comment removed

  • Errr, yes they do. The pipers of the regiment wear the saffron kilt, and if you keep watching, you'll see the drummers to the rear in red tunics and bear skin. If you pause the video at 27 seconds you can see the blue plume on the right side of the piper's headgear, the Royal Irish Regiment pipers wear a green plume on the left above their cap badge. It's the Irish Guards.

  • Ahh, ya know mate, yer right. I realized my mistake whilst I was eating lunch today. The tunics are different as well.

  • @gtmcmaster1977 :it's not a plume it's a Hackle

  • there irish guards mate blue plume on the caubeans

  • Cheers mate, I realized my mistake after I posted.

  • @gairkhata it most likly is Irish guard as none Of the RRoS have a Hackle that big

  • @nightfox802 Oh yes they do it's under their Kilts a Well know Fact.

  • @strathpipe nice one m8

  • @lnm8

Think you'll find the only Irish Guards in that video are the one's in the orange kilts.

When will you Irish attempt to get your own culture and stop copying Scotland?

  • @lnm8 Apart from the Drums and Pipes of The Irish Guards! (centre). The guys on the left of the parade are The Royal Scots Borderers (1 Scots) with black hackles (closest to camera).

  • @lnm8 clearly not! Saffron Kilts...all soldiers of the Royal IRISH Regiment!

  • @lnm8

Some of those pipers are from Irish regiments. Green tunics with Safron kilts.

  • what the name of this tune?

  • The first tune is "100 Pipers", the second is "Black Bear".

  • ALBA GU BRATH!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent video Monarchist1952.

    Thankyou

  • It's the Irish Guards pipers wearing saffron kilts, there ware no canadian bands at Basel this year. The Massed Pipes and Drums were: The Royal Tank Regiment, the Irish Guards, the Royal Scots Borderers (1 RRS), the Royal Highland Fusiliers (2 RRS), the Royal Air Force (Leuchars) Pipes and Drums, the Capetown Highlanders, the Dalhousie Pipe Band, the Gordon Highlanders Regimental Pipes and Drums (swiss), Oatlands Park Pipe Band and the Pipes and Drums of Zurich.

  • Is that one of the Canadian 'Irish' Regiments in the Saffron coloured kilts? If so, which one? Thanks

  • As far as I know there were only Regiments from Britain, one from South Africa and "Highlanders" from Switzerland and Germany.

  • @Monarchist1952 This is a combination of different regiments due to cutbacks. All Scottish.

  • there not canadian cause i can recognise people there walking past there irish guards micks

  • Hello Bugler 75

    They needed buglers there hehehehe

  • @bugler75

It looks like the Irish Guards - you can see the blue hackle in the piper's caubeens and the drummers behind in bearskin caps with their buttons in 4's down the front of their tunics..

  • @bugler75

The Canadian Irish, actually have a tartan kilt.

Those are the Royal Irish Regiment pipers

  • @bugler75 Irish Guards by the looks of it pal

  • No one In canada ever wants to watch this stuff they feel they may offend someone.

  • What are you on about?

  • Perhaps you should watch the Nova Scotia tattoo
