Also, rape can definitely be a hate-crime. The Department of Justice F.B.I. defines a hate-crime as a crime "is motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender’s bias against" certain categories (incl. gender in 24 states). Motives vary, but in my opinion, many, many rapes involve bias against women.
