and one ATI Radeon card for laptop that could not, and a hd4650 i have now which can, but the becomes too hot, so next time i try nvidia for laptop

What kind of a comparison is this?! I have a HD4890 1GB and I put it in my new rig that I built in October 2009. Even then it only cost around £150. Hardly a worthy test bed is it?

I buy whatever is the top brand at that time and it has always happened to be ATI at the time I'm building a PC.

Despite this only being mid rangeed it still spits out the new CoD games at top settings on 1440x900 res. (I had to change the cooler though as the default PowerColor one is like a hoover). 4890 is brill

(6990 comes heavily underclocked so it passes the energy requirements. its physically a 6970 x2, but software limited since it comes with 830mhz core and 1250mhz vram, while 6970 comes with 880mhz core and 1375mhz vram. with that 6970 specs pushed even further, 6990 beats the crap out of 590.)

I freaking LOVE 69xx's core! even 6950 2gb version can be turned into a 6970!!!

ATI is much better than nvidia. the only thing ps3 graphics looks much better is just because it uses blu-ray disc and xbox uses dvd. but people can barely differentiate both graphic yet ps3 is using blu-ray. although, blu-ray should be hundred time better than dvd, but xbox still give a good competition to ps3. this is one of many proof that ati is better than nvidia. yes, nvidia does not last long so don't waste your money on that. IF YOU ASKING ME, ATI IS BETTER!!!

@GameFreaks999 What???? Several misconceptions here: the Bluray vs DVD will only affect the quality of movies, i.e. (to state the obvious) PS3 can play Blu ray and 360 can't. It has nothing to do with the quality of the 3D graphics rendered by the hardware which is using a completely different part of the circuitry.

The only other possible difference is more data can be stored on Blu Ray so some games might have higher quality textures if the developers make the extra effort to mak it so.

One big difference I noticed with ATI although they may run current games at max and such but later on same Nvidia cards will outperform ATI by a large margin later on. I have owned both ATI and Nvidia and beleive me ATI gets outdated much quicker then Nvidia does. I would not even buy ATI even if I had AMD processor.

you can't name this "ATI VS NVIDIA", because there are only 2 cards, and it toesn't say something about the chip of ati or nvidia. Both have good and bad cards, maybe Nvdia is more expensive, but ati doesn't have physx or cuda.

Ati always was better. Their problem was the drivers. They made crappy drivers. nvidia always made great drivers, but crappy cards... In spite Ati's efforts, their drivers still are crap, but the cards are great. Some passionate kids made drivers for Ati and those cards perform like army cards. unfortunately, those kids don't have a job at Ati. Overall, Ati is better for long-term use as drivers get better in time

@TheRuminator because the bad programmers working for Ati gained experience for a specific card, so they can make it use its entire power more with every driver that's coming out. I have nothing against Nvidia, my card is an nvdida. But I know that from the first driver, my card will not get any better. Ati, you buy the card and you realize that with every new driver, you can put stronger game settings. That's all. In the beginning both are at the same level. Price is lower with Ati I see.

i am saying this from fact and and experience. ATI is way more reliable and will actually out live nvidia. I have a laptop that is 10 FREAKIN YEARS OLD and it has ATI in and I have never had a problem with it. The battery wore out, the chasis broke and the keyboard broke but I have never had a problem with the graphics card.
