  • I was 14 when this came out and at that time Michael Jackson was hitting it in the UK :) a great time to be young and alive xxx

  • I love this version of the song. Thanks for posting this. I can't find any of the others posted anywhere on the net, i.e. Sammy Davis Jr 1957, Pete Seeger 1957, Earl Robinson 1958, etc. I think when 3 dog night recorded this, they had only heard this version and not the others with the first verse included.

  • Don't despair, there is an improvement -- if you look at the kinds of things people would say aloud in those days and not question it... the human race is a restless race, there will always be some conflict, but in today's world we are encouraged to be conscious of equality in many ways (esp in training as a counselor which I am) [and as I was also raised to believe, in those days, as a child]

  • very underrated band ...great song

  • Hey this great singer is my dad. I still love watching him perform this track.

  • @doakley76 We all do Doakley!

  • @doakley76 The bass player is my father in law Trevor White

  • @doakley76

Your Dad is cool. Very talented.

  • Easy, abolish the term RACE there is only one RACE the human race. Get rid of religion. Then concentrate on what is the same about people instead of percieved differences. We are the 21st century but there are a lot of people trying to send us back to the middle ages.

  • I couldnt agree with you more mate, we should love each other despite our differences and the whole world should share the world and it's riches

  • @Shuto123 No, it's not religion per se we need to get rid of (picture managing that!) but religious INTOLERANCE. It's the intolerance of and conflict with those who don't believe as we do which causes all the pain, not the beliefs in and of themselves, necessarily.

  • This was one of the first records I can remember from when I was a child that dealt with racial issues - the words are lovley and are based on a court case speech given back in the 1950's (I think correct me if I'm wrong!)in USA regarding a racial attack.

  • @puregloster

Sammy Davis Jr. did this in 1956 in tribute to Brown v Board of Education (School Desegregation)

  • Thank you for letting me know.

  • Happy days

  • Tnanks for a classic upload marco, although not sure where it's from. Looks too slick for TOTP. Great pop song. Yes seems like a different age.

  • @martinevans123 It is indeed from TOTP
