@TheTubePortal I think I heard John Daly pronounce a little "duh" at the end of the name. He would have known especially how to pronounce it, since he was from South Africa where they speak Afrikaans.
Freakin' adorable! I loved his looks of feigned disappointment each time the panel would ask a question that brought them closer to figuring him out. He was a true prodigy, and he was amazing in every movie he was in--MOTW, Shane, Hud. I wish we were able to hold onto him for a little while longer. RIP...
On that raining afternoon in July of 1972 we were on are way to Ft. Carson when we came upon the wreck of his camper at Lakewood just outside of Denver.
@blueticecho I lived in Colorado at the time, too. He was in town to appear in a play when he had his accident. He'd only been married about a year or two, and his son had just been born. Terrible tragedy.
He looked great in the 1960s. He did a TV appearance on Alfred Hitchcock's TV series about 1961. He died too young. The Hitchcock TV show is at nerdytv and at the internet archive free to watch. Public domain. It might be at YouTube also.
@Featureman That episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" starring Brandon De Wilde is titled "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." It was to have been Episode #39, in Season 7 in July 1962, just before the series expanded to the hour-long format and retitled "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour," but was deemed too gruesome by the program's sponsors and network censors, and never aired on NBC in first-run.
@Featureman Not only by the network "censors," but originally by Revlon, the sponsors of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents."
Actually, only a government may "censor," and only then if it is by 'prior restraint' may it be termed "censorship." Otherwise, when involving a private entity, such as a television network (in the United States, anyway, where we have no state-run TV), the term is "editing."
On the New York stage, Brandon was considered the most talented juvenile of his day. It did transfer to the movies, Shane is a classic example. It is sad that god took him home at such a young age. RIP Brandon.
As noted by others, Brandon De Wilde captured the imagination: he was indeed a Dean, a potential Brando -- he was magical. It seems a shame to me that "business" denies the public access to "Jamie". De Wilde has an iconic standing and his estate would pay homage to his memory by making all his works available to this and future generations. What a joy to have revisited this sweet, gentle soul.
RoustaboutKid what a good looking kid! dressed classy, acted classy! pure class act that would soon grow up to be one handsome fine young fella. R.I.P Brandon I LOVE YOU XXX
Please watch Hud again or see it for the first time. I'm sure you will agree that this fine actor held his own in that stellar cast. What a tragic loss, but you know, he will always be remembered fondly because that film will never disappear, and he will always stay young.
I often wonder why some of these old shows like Jamie, or the Kurt Russell series about Jaimie McPheeters are not out there on DVD somewhere. From what I read in an encyclopedia of TV, the Jamie series with DeWilde was quite popular, but some kind of disagreement between producers and the network killed it after a season.
He was an adorable little kid and one hell of an actor. The librarian at our library told me her mother used to babysit him, and apparently he was quite a little hell-raiser!
I have a copy of one episode from JAMIE which I will try to post one of these days.
GSN broadcast this 10 Jan 1954 episode on 20 May 2008. This was an unusual episode all around. The first mystery guest was Ghislaine Alexander of the British WML panel. Ghislaine then joined the panel for the second game, but they were totally bamboozled by a handcuff maker. Only the second time that FIVE panelists play a round? Alexander left; the second mystery guest was just about the youngest mystery guest ever -- Brandon de Wilde in his early luscious period.
And what a funny expression when asked if he was a "young juvenile". Funny expressions, too, when Bennett Cerf narrowed him down. Apparently he did not want to be identified.
I do enjoy watching these again, but it's sad since we all know what happened to each of them years later.
