@alexhackett93 learn the sweetspots on Zelda's forward and backward aerials. You can move in any direction with their teleports be unpredictable. If you play with items up b is also helpful for getting to a good item fast and getting out of the way of some final smashes. Never forget the Naryu's Love reflects projectiles. Din's Fire has a larger hitbox than it appears and you can control it's speed with forward and backward this helps catch dodge happy enemies. Hope that helps a little
Ok, I've found it out. It's not just the just, if you tilt the joystick 45 degrees for a back-air you'll get that extra boost into the air as you see in the video.
You can also do it for the forward-air. So basically, it's not just the jump.
Being slow doesn't make the game easier. It makes it use a different set of skills. The emphasis on taking advantage of attack ranges and attack speeds it increased greatly.
In Melee, it was more about being quick and using mindgames.

lol are you for real? no items? battle field? ledge guarding? that's boring who wants to play that? i'm sorry i'm no as dull as you but okay mr cool guy.
it is easy to understand. i think the fight was to easy and people who are good using lucas could proboly win with ease...
i like this game but only for fun and not for competition anymore like it used to be with melee. if you mind go look for some videos of melee pros doing amazing combos...
What Melee did is add new features to the original, and make it the most difficult game to master out there. Brawl took out some things, and added other things(hugging, gliding, multiple air dodges) that made it equally as competitive. Brawl is for Melee experts who played Melee for six years, and maybe wanted something new to master.
Hmmm, anyone can learn (I said LEARN, not MASTER, but still...) how to play gay characters in Brawl and spotdodge in a month, unless they completely lack skill or don't know how the game works (camping and dodging fest) =/
i finaly came with a possible tier list but it is not complete. i can say lucas is one of the ones i consider a very strong character and zelda too. this game is lot easier and playing it to much brought me to understand it more deeper. one thing i can say is that melee is for real combo time and brawl is for people who literaly are not good at melee and all that fast timing.just look at the vidoes of melee pros they are very damn fast!!!!!
There are way too many things to consider to make a tier list. There could be some kind of exploit(like Wavedashing in Melee) that will be found in several months. Making a complete tier list takes a group of professionals and years.
There is no possibly way you could've come even close to making a tier list. The character that seems the worst(Capt. Olimar probably, at this point) could easily come out on top in tiers.
WTF, dude, Olimar is probally one of the best character in Brawl. He is one of the few characters that have something that resembles combos, and you gotta remember, this is BRAWL, a game that has no combos. He has attacks that are just way too fast and powerful (smash attacks anyone?) and excellent to rack up damage without being punished (like if there was someone that isn't Snake or MK that can punish LOL) such as u-air and forward-B. The only thing that stops him is his crappy recovery.
There are MANY ways to combo in Brawl. Try playing Brawl competitively, rather than automatically try convincing yourself that Brawl has no combos because it's too hard.
Brawl has MANY ways to combo, and only more will be discovered as the days pass.
Capt. Olimar looks like a very low tier character to me(I could be wrong), because him and Pit are the cheapest characters(people that haven't played before can spam Pikmin) and he has a bad recovery, not to mention he is slow and can barely combo.
LOL, way to first tell people to play competitively, then base your personal ratings on how "cheap" a character is. Next you'll be saying that Snake is bad because he's so slow and Meta Knight's too light.
Combos are limited in Brawl. They're there, but there's absolutely no chance of performing any dynamic combos - you're set to your character's BnBs.

I suppose I should explain what I mean by "cheap".
What I mean by a character being cheap is that a character has a bunch of attacks that are spammable, easy to hit with and rather than combo-ing using skill, the character can continuously use an attacks that are really strong and nearly unavoidable. Pit and Capt. Olimar have a bunch of these, but it IS possible to use them skillfully.
There are many ways to combo in Brawl, you just have to find them. An over 90% Yoshi combo has been found.
Actually I play all Smash Bros games competitively and barely anyone who I've played is able to beat me in Brawl. And I have played many (very) good players. And Olimar does have "combos", such as d-throw > u-smash/u-air -> u-air. And there isn't such a thing as cheap characters, especially when your definition of it is a character that is able to spam projectiles. And there aren't MANY ways to combo in Brawl, because all "combos" can be DI'ed out of, and if not, many of them can be airdodged.

However little skill you might think it takes to spam attacks, it takes even less skill to call it "cheap" and somehow think it makes the player worse than you when you're still losing to such a straightforward and predictable tactic.
k well korean dj used my friend to get good at brawl anyways, since he and i modded our wiis, korean dj went to my friend dorm and would play, bu after winning the first tourny, never even thanked him... im damn sure my friends ike could keep up with him... and as far as skill is concerned its just as difficult because the shadowboxes and dimensions are all different than melee, the pro secrets of melee were merely just prinicples of animation that
were removed from this game, ever wonder why they added slipping/tripping? tournments wont be domiated by the same people every time anymore, and newer people get a shot at tasting victory...
so minus a few disgruntled ex pros/ semi pros (which i was semi-pro) i would definitely imaginemjority of you agree with the removal of the "magical moves of melee"...sigh... i do ms luigi's wavedash tho that was fun...
Does that matter? If this was a Melee match I would scoff in his face like you did... but this is Brawl. It doesn't take nearly as much skill (compared to Melee) to play it. I think Brawl is a game where anyone with decent skill can beat a Melee expert. Quite sad really (although I'm not saying this particular person can beat KDJ. Just talking about possibilities).
You brought up some good points, and I agree, someone who could never have hoped to beat an expert in Melee, could now do it in Brawl. What I was trying to convey was that since he was an expert, that gave him some experience, for things like reading movement patterns, strategies, and even something like faster fingers
My comment was more directed at that one person, because I've found that usually, people who brag they can "beat those guys", tend to suck
I agree with your points too. I was better than most people around me when Brawl just came out (although most matches were closer than I would've liked). Anyhow I do feel your irritation when people make such comments. I was always amazed in how well KDJ played his Shiek/Fox back in Melee. It's a shame. Really.
While I admit the games are pretty different from each other, I think saying that Brawl takes less skill to play is complete bullshit. I've been playing it for quite awhile and just because Melee was faster paced and there were more "glitch" type moves doesn't really make it more challenging. Just because it's harder to learn how to do the moves doesn't make it require more skill, just more time.
In no way am I bagging you: What is your definition of skill?Because last time I checked the dictionary, pressing buttons in rapid succession and incredible timing is considered a skill. So there is obviously a MUCH larger challenge on the physical side (reaction/muscle-wise).I'm pretty sure most can agree with that. Regaurding ATs, whether to call them a "glitch" or not is debatable. Anyhow these ATs made new windows for a variety of moves; which I think added on to a more complicated mindgame.
The mind game part is debatable so I'm not going to argue (it's only my opinion). I just wanted add: doing actual combos and DIing accordingly is what I consider skillful too :p
you could not beat KDJ, you are awful at using sheik, you never will be as good as he is, even as he plays now. he was the best sheik player in tournament play of ssbm in the world, and for good reason too, look up some of the videos. good to see his infamous drop edgeguarding still has a place in Brawl, despite sheiks nerfed Fair.

First, its Sheik, not Sheick.
Second, KDJ is using his jump right before he b-airs so it looks like as if he rises up into the air.
