  • I'm so happy there's someone like you out there who studies the correct rhythms and rudiments to this piece before posting their half-assed work on youtube. Great job, man!

  • so complex....

  • fucking sick man

  • Your kit sounds so soft and smooth, love it

  • man you are fun to watch, wish i could jam with a drummer of your ability. great job on this epic song . i think your kit sounds deadly.

  • you missed the first main rythm when the bass enters, beside that, good job , congrats

  • the tom pattern at the begining when the vocals start doesn't sound very fluid to me. seems to tighten up around the 3:00 mark.

  • Good job. Thanks. I have been looking for a third eye drum video. Now I can see when I have been messing up. The beginning part and first two parts. I couldn't figure out what he was doing exactly. It helps sooooo much to see it played!

    SUBSCRIBED!

  • may be one of the best Tool drum covers I've seen. Nice job!

  • that was a fucking flawless and precise rendition.

  • well done :O

  • What samples are you running on the mandalas for the intro? Are they just extra tom samples?

  • @bobbywingood yes, a tom sample in two different pitches, with mainly attack sound and not much "body".

  • Out of all Tool drum patterns the beginning of Third Eye is the one I want to learn the most.

  • hey, i was wondering, how did you tune your drums in this song?

  • @BrianWilson720 i always try to match the fundamental notes of the song with the toms, as far as possible. On this song the toms are approximately in D and G. But it depends on the tom sizes. Generally I like higher tunings, because to me it sounds better and I get more rebound (and the heads last longer).

  • @thekillingjoke

thanks man, i tuned my toms in fifths, and tom patterns sound so much better now...

by the way, are you planning to upload a new video anytime soon?

  • @BrianWilson720 yes, rosetta stoned. I'll need a few weeks, yet.

  • @BrianWilson720 How do you tune a tom in fifths?

  • @BrianWilson720 Hi, great job! This is one of my fav things to practice. Unlike the crap videos I have up, I'm back playing my dw exotic which is basically in the old danny sizes. I play the intro entirely differently, and likely very incorrectly, I like the way you are playing that pattern. I'd love to see this basic pattern actually correctly transcribed somewhere... til then I just try to duplicate what I'm hearing with that unrelenting hi-hat on all 3. So much fun. Keep it up !!

  • @BrianWilson720

what i meant was that the fundamental note of each tom was five notes apart from the previous one, say D A E, for example

  • is the alpha metal ride any good? i hear it rings alot

  • @lolvids2 true... it really has a dark ringing sound. I'm a bit disapointed by it, it's hard to get a distinct sound out of it in the mix.

  • @thekillingjoke yeah so ill probably get the alpha groove ride or the rock ride

  • I bet he worked on this so long he was probably a big fat guy when he first sat down to playXD

  • WTF? Are you Danny Carey's long lost brother?

  • i just can't stop watching this video over and over and over again!!! it's so awesome...

  • How in the shit did you manage to figure out the opening pattern? The only way I can see you possibly did is watching the video of them do this live in pomona ;)

Do you know if danny's using a certain rudiment for the opening?

  • @OnePremier Pomona is a good guide, yes. I watch a lot of live videos to figure things out. Also, if it doesn't flow naturally, it can't be right. That helps as a basic guideline. I'm not sure about the opening, though. Live it's always improvised and on the album it's full of delay effects.

  • Are those yellow cups ear protection? If so have you headphones on underneath. Good job by the way.

  • @mwalshorama yes, ear protection with some ear plug headphones. works well for monitoring and I get to keep my hearing.

  • You are a monster. Best cover drum Tool ever!!

    Wonderful!

  • how do you get the remote hi hat there between the toms. Im a lefty drummer but i keep my ride cymbal on the right and hi hat left to be ambidextrous cause i play the left hi hat with my left hand but im thinking of putting it in the middle but i dont know how. I have a remote "dogbone" hi hat

  • @babadef that's a pearl RH-2000 hi-hat, i've put up a video about the mounting (done with some multiclamps onto the tom stand)

  • @thekillingjoke Very well done. Third Eye is by far my favorite Tool song.. It sums up their essence in perfect harmony. I've listened and (vocaly) covered This song countless times and I'm always left feeling awed by it. Its timeless. Danny Carey would be proud

  • are you playing doubles or swiss triples?

  • @ace76543 Around 3:10? Doubles (RH-LH-RF-LF)

  • are those swissy's?

  • dude tool is my favorite band. this rocks . great job! i know dany cary is about the hardest to cover out there and you where pretty much spot on! ne one would be lucky to have you in there band.

  • man is this song even possible to play with 2 toms and a floor tom I wonder?

  • thank you for this.

  • Nice work dude, that was really amazing.

  • you are really great!

  • Are you looking for a band?

  • @syn5643 Not right now, I'm working on some "solo" music first. I'd like to play in a well functioning band one day, but _looking_ for a band is frustrating.

  • @thekillingjoke Where are you located, I think you'd fit very well with the band I've got together! I can send you some newer songs if you give me your email

  • @syn5643 Thanks, but I'm in Germany. D'Oh!

  • @thekillingjoke FUCK man. I really dig your style, and think that we could all evolve superbly together. That sucks that this always has to happen.

  • wow this is a REAL Tool cover, great fuckin job dude

  • I didnt think it was possible, but you pulled it off better than tbartles, now thats saying something, great job, made my arms sore just watching it XD

  • Damn, right around 0:52, shit gets real.

  • Can u make a video on how u got your hi hat like that? that would be awesome!!! and nice cover!!!!!!

  • Well played! Thanks for the post.

  • awesome cover man , that a really hard song to play. Where have your mandalas mounted on?

  • @ricardoieci 10,5mm L-rods

  • Are u doing doubles RRLL with your hands around your kit at the beginning? In a triplet pattern, can explain? thanks.

  • @ricardoieci here's the pattern for the beginning img33.imageshack.us/img33/8794/thirdeyetom.png there are no triplets, it's all 1/16s.

  • Very good cover man! This is by far My fav tool song, Just saw them open OKC opening with this song.

  • once again...you are a son of a bitch. this is tits man...like nice B-cup titties with hershey kiss nipples located 45 degrees from the top of the boob....like...perfect titties.

  • Is that a Paiste signature on the left side of the ride?

  • @MrJanbravo right. a 18" power crash.

  • amazing cover man,

  • absolutely amazing bro. What is the sticking for the tom pattern starting at 50 seconds in?

  • @OnePremier here's the basic pattern for the part img33.imageshack.us/img33/8794/thirdeyetom.png

  • when the camera is on your right, you kinda look lik Joey Jordison, no offence. lol just kidding he may be very overrated but still good

  • your videos are all i look for on youtube please dont stop doing tool its the closest thing there is!

  • Wunderbar!!!!! Wie alle deine Tool vids :P prima

  • hell yes

  • Fucking amazing dude, I am completely gasped.
