I love the old Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy films and this was one of their best although I can't help feeling that acting alongside Nelson Eddy must have been like playing opposite a solid oak sideboard.....albeit one that could sing. Jeanette was fab!

These two were just magical together. Back when I was a kid, my father used to sing the songs(arias?) these two introduced to millions of Americans during the Depression. How little I appreciated them and the true value and high sentiment the songs revealed.

Bravo! I first heard/saw Jeanette and Nelson in my teens, years ago. Forty years later they are still my favorites. I've heard many sopranos but something about Jeanette's voice was special; and Nelson's voice the perfect baritone.

I have read that MGM originally intended a more dramatic ending with an outdoor setting of the lovers singing an echo duet of "Indian Love Call" but for me the ending as it was filmed is perfect. Lorraine
