Let me correct you: The vast number of Christians, who convert to Islam in the East, ARE considered apostates by their families and isolated, and disowned. In fact in Jordan, Syria and Iraq, you'll see cases of women being beaten to death, and killed by Christians. In South Africa, such a case happened a year or so ago where the Father of a family was killed because of this issue.

Am I missing something? The Hadith, which all Sunni Muslims have to accept, implicitly states in Sahih al-Bukhari, 9:83:17 that apostasy IS punishable by death. I have read the Holy Qur'an and it says that women who fear disobedience and oppression (Nushuz in Arabic) from men should try to reach a compromise with them and if they can't they should divorce (Surah an-Nisa 4:128). Islam gave rights to women, who were treated as sex objects in Arabia, prior to Islam.

The verse says that if men experience rebelliousness and disloyalty from women, first they must caution them, then stop sharing beds with them then "Idribuhoona" (Arabic term) them.

It is very clear throughout the seerah of the Messenger of Allah and the actions of the sahaba that blasphemy against any of the prophets is punnished by death by the concencus of the scholars. Evidence for this is the story of Ka'b ibn ashraf whom the prophet orderded to be executed exclusivly for his blasphemy against him. And those who argue that the prophet forgave his enemies who fought him and spoke ill about him, then this is true, but we cant forgive on behalf of the messenger.

Islam is supposed to be a religion that as the Quran says: "La ikraha fee din" = There is no compulsion in religion. So why should there be compulsion if you leave the religion?
Islam is a religion, not a state secret and also not an army. So it is incorrect logic to say that leaving Islam is treason. How many Western states or even China will kill you if you leave a religion? Compare that to Saudi Arabia and even orthodox Sufi Fiqh books like "Reliance of the Traveller".

I'm just wondering how it is that in the West, Christians who leave, i.e apostasize from Christianity by converting to Islam or any other religion, are not killed by the state for being apostates from Christianity. Also, the vast majority of Christian parents have to just accept their child's decision to apostasize from Christianity. Yet in the Arab world, if you apostasize from Islam, it can be lethal. In Saudi Arabia you can be executed, even the Sufis agree, check "Reliance of the Traveller"

Let me correct you: The vast number of Christians, who convert to Islam in the East, ARE considered apostates by their families and isolated, and disowned. In fact in Jordan, Syria and Iraq, you'll see cases of women being beaten to death, and killed by Christians. In South Africa, such a case happened a year or so ago where the Father of a family was killed because of this issue.
You're comparing East Vs West. In the west, no one cares about religion: which is why Christians don't.

Hmmm. Abdal Hakim Murad is of course right that the Qur'an does not proscribe any legal punishment for apostasy. However, the hadith do proscribe the death penalty for apostasy and of course the hadith are almost as authoritative as the Qur'an.

Am I missing something? The Hadith, which all Sunni Muslims have to accept, implicitly states in Sahih al-Bukhari, 9:83:17 that apostasy IS punishable by death. So a male, like Rushdie, who renounced his Islamic beliefs, should be put to death according to the Hadith. This validates, on the grounds of Islamic text, the fatwa from Khomeini. (How is this, or any, religion still on earth? It's ridiculous)

About slavery. Slavery was already there at the time of Islam. Islam ordered that slaves be freed and treated with equal rights, for instance, what the master eats and wears, the slave eats and wears, if the slave cannot do a task, because of exhaustion, his master must help and if a slave ever hits his master, he must free him. And it is a charitable act to free slaves in Islam.

Islam teaches that both men and women have to obey each other. If your husband asks you to do something, would you disobey and just ignore him?
How would you like it if he did the same to you? I have read the Holy Qur'an and it says that women who fear disobedience and oppression (Nushuz in Arabic) from men should try to reach a compromise with them and if they can't they should divorce (Surah an-Nisa 4:128). Islam gave rights to women, who were treated as sex objects in Arabia, prior to Islam.

Islam doesn't teach that women are sex-objects, rather it raised them from that position into normal human-beings. During the pre-Islamic era, Arab pagans used to bury their daughters alive, confine women to homes, use them as sex slaves etc... It was the Holy Prophet Mohammad (SAWW) who reformed.
There is no such thing as a sex-slave in Islam. I will respond to the so-called wife-beating verse next.

The verse says that if men experience rebelliousness and disloyalty from women, first they must caution them, then stop sharing beds with them then "Idribuhoona" (Arabic term) them.
What does the word "Idribuhoona" mean? Scholars, such as ibn Kathir, Maududi, Asad, as-Suyuti, al-Mihali and ibn Abbas state that this means that men can scold their wives lightly, for instance, grab them by the arm, but are forbidden to beat them violently, by hitting them on the face or leaving a mark.

It is very clear throughout the seerah of the Messenger of Allah and the actions of the sahaba that blasphemy against any of the prophets is punnished by death by the concencus of the scholars. Evidence for this is the story of Ka'b ibn ashraf whom the prophet orderded to be executed exclusivly for his blasphemy against him. And those who argue that the prophet forgave his enemies who fought him and spoke ill about him, then this is true, but we cant forgive on behalf of the messenger.
